.SYNOPSIS...19/246 AM.

High pressure aloft will remain over the region through the end of
the week and bring dry offshore flow and much above normal
temperatures away from the coast. Closer to the coast, a shallow
marine layer depth in place will bring dense fog to many areas
near the beaches this morning. By the weekend, stronger onshore
flow will bring much cooler temperatures to the area. Drizzle or
light rain is possible across portions of the area early next
week.

.SHORT TERM (TDY-SAT)...19/356 AM.

The latest water vapor imagery shows strong high pressure aloft
in place over northern California early this morning, while a
weak upper-level trough off Baja California slowly drifts to the
northwest. Another hot day is on tap for areas away from the coast
as weak offshore flow remains in place beneath the subsidence
aloft. Most valley areas will be much above normal and near record
levels for today. Daily record high temperatures could be tied or
set at Woodland Hills and Sandberg in Los Angeles County, while
Paso Robles, Palmdale, and Lancaster could be close. A heat
advisory remains in effect for the daytime hours across the Los
Angeles and Ventura County Valleys. The Ojai Valley and Lake
Casitas area were added to this advisory, and the Santa Lucia
mountains and the San Luis Obispo County Valleys, as well, where
the hottest temperatures are forecast for today.

Closer to the coast, a shallow and persistently stubborn marine
layer depth remains intact and wedged in. The marine intrusion is
now starting to spread north of Point Conception. The latest AMDAR
soundings from KLAX indicate a 700 foot deep marine layer depth,
plenty shallow enough to produce dense fog. Surface observations
validate the dense fog premise with several coastal locales at or
below one-half mile in visibility. A dense fog advisory was added
for all coastal and beach areas south of Point Conception through
10 AM PDT this morning. With Santa Maria now falling to less than
one half mile, a dense fog advisory is being considered for the
beaches and immediate coast at this time. The only question is
areal coverage at this time.

With the low clouds and dense fog wedged in at this time,
temperatures will continue to remain near or closer to normal at
the beaches and immediate coast. The latest forecast trends
temperatures cooler and closer to forecast guidance as the marine
influence is not likely to get displaced considering offshore flow
is not as strong. Yesterday, the low clouds and marine influence
caused temperatures to actually be on the cool side of normal, and
persistence could win out. With 950 mb temperatures progged to
bear about the same or slightly warmer today, the forecast still
kept a warmer stance, but there is a moderate chance that the
forecast temperatures along the coast could be too warm.

The weak trough aloft to the south of the region will continue to
move to the northwest through Friday. Onshore flow should
reestablish between this afternoon and Friday. NAEFS surface
pressure gradient means suggest KLAX-KDAG turning weakly onshore
by this afternoon, but it seems more likely for Friday when KSMX-
KBFL surface pressure gradients also turn onshore. Onshore flow is
likely to bring a deepening marine layer depth through the weekend.
With some weak instability moving over the area with the trough,
patchy drizzle or light rain cannot be totally ruled out.

Caution should always be exercised on trough's to the south and
southwest of the area due to the data void in the vast Pacific
Ocean. The latest NAM-WRF and GFS deterministic solutions
continue to consistently advertise a decent amount of moisture
moving north with the trough. NAM-WRF solutions suggest 850 mb
mixing ratios approaching 12 g/kg in a few pockets between
Thursday night and Friday. NAEFS members indicate standard
anomalies close to three standard deviations above the mean for
Friday. Some concern exists for convection developing over the
mountains on Friday afternoon and evening as model sounding
indicate inverted-V soundings taking shape during the day on
Friday. The main question seems to be how much daytime heating
will take place on Friday and if it will enough to erode a remnant
capping inversion. PoPs have been trended higher as a non-zero
chance exists for Friday afternoon and evening.

A cooler weather pattern should start taking shape between Friday
and Saturday. EPS ensemble members suggest Saturday showing a
significant amount of cooling for areas away from the coast. The
marine layer depth seems likely to deepen substantially between
Friday and Saturday night.

.LONG TERM (SUN-WED)...19/414 AM.

The latest forecast ensemble members suggest a cooling trend is
will extend into early next week as broad troughing moves into the
West Coast. A digging inside slider trough will likely drop into
central California around Monday. Rain or night through morning
drizzle cannot be ruled out with this pattern. EPS ensemble
members favor the northern areas, especially the northern slopes
of the mountains and the Central Coast. Almost all of the EPS
members suggest rain for KVBG and KSDB, while GEFS solutions are
drier. Confidence is growing for higher PoPs for the northern
areas. Gusty northerly winds are likely in this scenario given
pattern recognition. EPS members back up this idea with a mix of
solutions advertising gusty winds at KSDB and KSBA. For now,
temperatures break away from NBM values for Monday as a colder air
mass is likely to be ushered in this pattern.

Ensemble temperature means start to warm between Tuesday and
Wednesday, but there is a very large spread across the models.
Temperature means diverge as much as 40 degrees across the spread
of the solutions. A warming trend would seem to make sense after
a northerly flow pattern. For now, NBM values have been left in
the forecast for now.

.AVIATION...19/0209Z.

At 2345Z at KLAX, the marine layer was 1000 feet deep. The top of
the inversion was around 1900 feet with a temperature 30 C.

High confidence in valley and desert TAFs.

Low to moderate confidence in coastal TAFs due to uncertainty in
the timing of cigs. Timing of cig arrivals tonight and clearing
tomorrow morning may be up to 2 hours later than forecast. There
is a 40% chance of LIFR cigs at KSBP from 08Z-15Z.

KLAX...Low confidence in the TAF. Timing of LIFR conditions may be
off 1-2 hours. High confidence any east wind component will be
under 6 kt.

KBUR...High confidence in VFR conds.

.MARINE...19/402 AM.

In the outer waters, moderate to high confidence in forecast.
Seas will remain at or above Small Craft Advisory (SCA) levels
thru at least mid morning Fri. Winds are expected to be below SCA
levels thru Fri morning. There is a 40% chance of SCA level winds
Fri afternoon thru early Sat. SCA winds are expected Sat afternoon
thru Mon. The exception is the northern zone (PZZ670), where winds
are expected to stay below SCA levels thru Sat, with a 40% chance
of SCA level winds Sat night, and SCA winds likely Sun thru Mon.

In the inner waters north of Pt. Sal, seas are expected to remain
at or above SCA levels thru at least mid morning Fri. Winds are
expected to be below SCA levels thru Sat morning. There is a 30%
chance of SCA level winds Sat afternoon/evening. SCA level winds
are likely during the afternoon/evening hours Sun and Mon.

In the SBA Channel, winds are seas are expected to remain below SCA
levels thru Fri. However seas will be elevated, with swells of 4
to 7 feet and long periods of 16 to 21 seconds thru Fri. There is
a 40% chance of SCA level winds in western portions late Fri/Fri
night. SCA level winds are likely across much of the channel
during the late afternoon thru late night hours Sat thru Mon.

In the southern inner waters, winds and seas are expected to remain
below SCA levels thru Sat morning, though seas will be elevated
at 4 to 6 feet with long periods thru Fri. SCA level winds are
likely during the late afternoon and evening hours Sat thru Mon,
especially from Anacapa Island to Malibu.

There will be areas of dense fog with vsbys 1 NM or less across
much of the waters this morning, with patchy dense fog Fri morning.

.BEACHES...19/402 AM.

For the Central Coast, high surf is expected to peak later this
morning into tonight. West and Northwest facing beaches can
expect surf of 10 to 15 feet, with local sets to 20 feet. Surf
will begin to subside slowly late tonight, then drop below high
surf levels by late Friday morning. Southwest facing beaches will
have surf of 6 to 9 feet during the peak of the event late this
morning through this evening. Minor coastal flooding is possible
near the noon high tide today.

For Ventura County, surf of 6 to 9 feet with local sets to 10
feet is expected later this morning through Fri. Surf will
subside slowly Fri afternoon into Fri evening. Nuisance to minor
coastal flooding is possible near the high tide around noon today
and possibly again early Fri afternoon.

For Los Angeles County and west facing beaches of the south coast
of SBA County, surf of 3 to 6 feet with local sets to 7 feet is
expected later this morning into Fri. Surf is expected to subside
Fri afternoon into Fri evening.

There will be a high risk of dangerous rip currents on all area
beaches through at least Fri evening.
