Wx map shows high pressure ridging across the Gulf of Mexico,
keeping southwest winds across the Northern Gulf and inland areas.
Warm southerly flow over relatively cooler shelf waters continues
to provide dense marine fog over the nearshore coastal waters,
inland lakes and bays west of Intracoastal City through Wednesday
morning, where a Dense Fog Advisory continues. For inland areas,
have extended the Dense Fog Advisory through Noon for Jefferson
County and Cameron Parish. Most of the fog across inland area
expected to lift to an low cloud deck with some breaks expected.
Once this occurs, highs in the upper 70s to near 80 looks good in
the forecast. Will address the needs for additional Inland Dense
Fog Advisory possibly along the coastal parishes/counties in the
afternoon package.

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Thursday night)
Issued at 400 AM CST Tue Jan 17 2023

Another warm and humid night is ongoing, with temperatures and
dewpoints currently in the mid to upper 60s across the region. A
few light showers still linger over Acadiana this morning, but
this activity should clear out by sunrise. Elsewhere, visibilities
continue to gradually decline as patchy, dense fog continues,
with VIS ranging from .5SM to 6SM across SETX/CENLA/SWLA. Dense
Fog Advisory for SETX and SWLA remains unchanged at this time, as
it has correctly en-captured the "bulls-eye" for fog development
up until this point. Fog will likely continue to gradually worsen
through the next few hours prior to sunrise, with improvements
expected thereafter. Fog should then lift completely by roughly
9-10AM, leaving partly to mostly cloudy skies overhead. Onshore
flow will continue to pump warm, moist air inland today, and
although shower activity is not expected it will result in another
unseasonable warm afternoon with highs expected to top out in the
upper 70s.

Heading into tomorrow, we turn our attention to the next storm
system taking shape out west, with a deepening mid/upper low
expected to eject out of the Southern Rockies and across the
Central Plains by early Wed. At the same time, a strengthening surface
low will be taking shape over E CO/W KS, with a stationary
boundary draped across AR/TN and a cold front over TX. Both the
mid level and surface lows will track east-northeastward
through the day tomorrow, bringing the cold front across the
forecast area tomorrow evening into tomorrow night. Before this
front arrives, strengthening southerly flow will allow moisture
to rapidly increase overhead which in combination with modest lift
will result in scattered warm-sector development through the late
morning into the afternoon. Convection will then begin to
increase in both coverage and intensity through the later half of
the day into the evening hours, with a squall line expected to move
across the region along the cold front. SPC has outlined an area
generally along and north of I-10 in a Slight Risk (2 of 5) for
severe weather, with a Marginal Risk (1 of 5) closer to the coast.
All modes of severe weather will be possible however, damaging
winds continue to be the primary threat, especially within the
squall line. A Marginal Risk (1 of 4) for Excessive Rainfall is
also in effect for the entire region, with localized urban
flooding possible within stronger storms. Both the heavy rain and
severe threats will come to an end quickly behind the front
tomorrow evening/night.

As showers and storms clear out of the region by early Thursday,
winds will shift west and northwest and begin to advect a drier
and slightly cooler airmass into the region. Dewpoints will fall
into the 40s through Thursday morning, while skies will clear. As
a result, a pleasant and more seasonal day looks to be on tap,
with afternoon highs topping out in the mid-60s to low 70s.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday through Tuesday)

On Friday, winds will turn more from the NE/E with cooler daytime
highs. Highs will be in the lower 60s, which is near seasonal
normals. Clouds will also be on the increase as another storm system
begins to emerge across the southern plains as well as surface low
development in the vicinity of the western gulf.

For the weekend, moisture will increase across the region as a warm
front may lift north across the area Saturday morning. At the same
time, sfc low pressure may develop and track from SW to NE across or
just offshore of southern LA. This will open the door to increased
moisture and widespread showers/storms developing across the region.

With the lifting/trajectory of the warm front and the progression of
the sfc low, there could be a shorter window for precip compared to
previous guidance. It is also possible the warm front stays south of
the area or stalls as a stationary bndry and the sfc low stays south
as the NBM suggests. Regardless of those specifics, the upper level
low/trof may quickly eject/fill as it moves into the Midwest. This
would help push everything through the area quicker. The storm
system may still linger into/through Sunday, but trends suggest
higher precip chances for the eastern third of the CWA on Sunday
rather than most of the CWA.

The pattern stays progressive with the possibility of another storm
system moving across the region Tuesday/Wednesday. Daytime highs
during the weekend and into early next week range from the upper 50s
to lower 60s.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)

Expect IFR ceilings to lift to MVFR/intermittent VFR this
afternoon with winds becoming more south-southwest to south during
the afternoon hours at 10-13 kts with gusts near 20 kts. Ceilings
expected to fall to IFR by 06z at most locations, with intermittent
LIFR ceilings/visibilities between 06-10z at BPT/LCH. After 10z,
the pressure gradient ramps up along with the winds of 10-15 kts
expected to keep enough mixing to inhibit the fog and keep
LIFR/IFR ceilings through 15z. After 15z, VCSH/VCTS expected with
prob30 groups from 16-18z for TSRA. Also, winds will pick up near
17-18kts with gusts 27-28 kts at all sites.

Warm southerly flow over relatively cooler shelf waters
continues the marine fog over the nearshore coastal waters,
inland lakes and bays west of Intracoastal City through Wednesday
morning. With latest visibility guidance showing this to continue
this evening through daybreak Wednesday, extended the Dense Fog
Advisory through 6 AM Wednesday.

Otherwise, onshore flow will continue across the eastern zones
through the morning hours gradually tapering off by the midday,
with light to moderate onshore flow elsewhere. A strong upper
level disturbance will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms
to the area Wednesday afternoon and evening, along with strong
gusty winds and building seas. Conditions will begin to improve by
early Thursday with the passage of a cold front.

of the day today, and a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect through
this evening. Some clearing is possible through the afternoon but
redevelopment is likely by this evening and the advisory will
likely need to be extended. Tomorrow, a strong upper level
disturbance will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms to the
area, along with strong gusty winds and building seas. Winds and
seas will begin to pick up through the early morning hours, with
showers and storms expected to arrive a bit later in the day

Dense fog will linger through the morning hours, burning off by 10AM.
There is a Slight Risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe weather for
most of the region on Wednesday. Storms will begin to develop late
Wednesday morning across Southeast Texas, spreading east and
southeast through the afternoon into Wednesday night. There is also a
Marginal Risk (level 1 out of 4) for Excessive Rainfall on Wednesday
with these storms. The greatest potential with these storms will be
damaging winds however, brief tornadoes, hail, frequent lightning,
and isolated flooding will also be possible.

Quiet weather is expected Thursday and Friday. Another upper level
disturbance expected to bring high precipitation chances Saturday.

For Wednesday and Wednesday night, moderate to strong onshore winds
and rough seas are expected, along with scattered to widespread
showers and thunderstorms. Expect gusty winds in excess of 30kts and
frequent cloud to water lightning through this period, especially
near stronger storms. A cold front will then bring a moderate
offshore flow through the end of the week. Winds and seas will begin
to ramp up again by late Friday as another upper level disturbance
and surface low approach the region. Elevated winds and seas will
persist through the weekend, along with an increased chances of
showers and thunderstorms.
