Strong subsidence over the area in allowing temperatures to soar
into record territory along with oppressive heat.
The upper level ridge centered over the middle of the country will
hold its influence over the forecast area. This will guide the
tropical wave over the Gulf of Mexico to the west staying south of
the forecast area, and into the lower Texas coast on Tuesday.
It will be a battle for any moisture from this wave to work into
the forecast area, with any significant shower activity staying
just along the coast or offshore. So for most of the forecast
area, hot and dry conditions will continue. The only difference
will be some breezy and gusty winds, mainly from the east, with
the winds strongest during the afternoon with daytime heating
mixing added in. This will cause some fire weather danger and see
the fire weather section for more information.

As we head into the mid-week, ridging aloft centered over Missouri
will continue to be the dominant feature for a while longer. As a
result, dry and unseasonable hot weather will continue. NBM wants to
paint small POPs along and south of I-10 for Wed afternoon but this
is likely wishful thinking, as capping aloft will continue to limit
convection. Temperature wise, highs again top out in the 100s
areawide, along with apparent temps in the 109-114 range.
Through the later half of the week ridging aloft will gradually
drift south/southwestward, becoming centered over the Ark-La-Tex on
Thursday and over TX/OK on Friday. Thursday looks to be the hottest
day of the forecast period, with highs reaching into the upper 100s
inland and into the low to mid 100s elsewhere. Moving into Friday,
the CWA becomes situated more on the eastern edge of the ridge. As
this occurs, some long range guidance is wanting to bring a bit of
moisture into the region from the north/northeast. Still, POPs are
around 20% at best, so don't expect widespread rainfall by any
means. Along with that, this won't mean an end to the heat as highs
are once again expected to top out in the 100s area-wide.
Moving into the weekend, the signal for rain looks a bit better as
we become situated beneath a more north/northeasterly flow aloft and
slightly better moisture potentially streams into the region aloft.
Still, this is a week out at this point so we will have to see how
things evolve through the next few days. Temperature wise, no good
news as the 100+ degree heat persists for a while longer.

VFR conditions will prevail this afternoon into the evening with
dry air continuing to suppress any significant cloud cover or
shower activity. Only caveat to the VFR conditions again will be
the probability of some visibility restrictions before sunrise due
to a combination of patchy fog/smoke/haze.
For Monday, by 15z expect winds to become more easterly and gusty
with gradient between high to the north and tropical wave over the
Gulf of Mexico.

The gradient with a tropical wave moving westward across the Gulf
of Mexico will increase winds and seas over the coastal waters on
Monday into early Tuesday. Winds will easterly at 15 to 25 mph
with gusts up to 35 knots. Meanwhile, seas will be increasing to 3
to 5 feet out 20 nm and 5 to 9 feet beyond 20 nm. Therefore, a
small craft advisory is in effect from Monday and Monday night and
may be extended into early Tuesday.
Shower and thunderstorm activity, especially the further offshore
you go, will be increasing on Monday into Tuesday with the wave.

A rare Red Flag Warning will be in effect on Monday from 7 am to 9
pm for all locations except for lower Acadiana. This was done with
coordination of federal and local partners in the forestry, as
well as, wildlife and fisheries. With conditions of very
critically dry fuels and gusty winds, especially in the afternoon
from the gradient of the tropical wave and daytime heating mixing,
not to mention the lack of significant rainfall amounts, will
allow for erratic and explosive spread of any woods, grass, or
marsh fires.
The area that does not have a Red Flag Warning is mainly for an
increase in humidity with the east winds and a higher chance for
showers than the other areas. However, there will still be an
increased fire risk in that area and will issue a fire danger
statement.
