Through This Evening:

With the surface high pressure center to our east this morning,
returning Gulf moisture has set up areas of low clouds and some
patchy fog to start the morning. Fog should mix out by mid morning,
with temperatures again climbing well above normal for the
afternoon. Forecast max temps may be hard to reach if low cloud
cover remains persistent anywhere today, but do expect breaks and
mixing out with southerly flow enough for highs to reach about 10-15
degrees above normal for late February. A stray shower can't be
ruled out, but largely expect no rain through early evening.
Moistening low levels overnight could yield some sprinkles or light
rain in advance of an approaching system. /NF/

Monday Morning through Afternoon:

This approaching low pressure system will swing out from the High
Plains late tonight into the Midwest tomorrow, while an anomalously
strong upper-level ridge will remain anchored over the Gulf of
Mexico and southeastern United States. This will tighten surface
pressure and mid-level height gradients as the low runs overtop the
ridge tomorrow. NBM operational wind speeds remain above the top end
of MOS and deterministic guidance, so values were lowered slightly
to yield average sustained winds around 20-25 mph and gusts up to
around 40-45 mph. These speeds straddle our Wind Advisory criteria,
but there is enough confidence this morning to include northern
portions of the forecast area in a Wind Advisory for the daytime
hours Monday. This "Elevated" gradient wind threat will include
southeast Arkansas, far northeast Louisiana (Bastrop to Tallulah and
northward), and areas in Mississippi along and north of Interstate
20. Especially by afternoon in those areas, the threat for gusts to
exceed 40 mph will increase as the wave moves eastward. Criteria
will be harder to reach farther south, so have kept those areas in
the "Limited" wind threat. There is also a chance for light rain
showers or sprinkles as the low pressure system's cold front moves
east through the region, but rain amounts should be minimal. In
fact, very low humidity should push into the Delta region behind the
front Monday afternoon.

Tuesday through Saturday:

With a longwave trough pattern centered over the western 2/3rds of
the CONUS, another shortwave trough is expected to dig over the
Desert Southwest region Wednesday into Thursday and close off into a
low pressure system. Expect rain and thunderstorm chances to return
to our forecast area as warm, moist air runs into a frontal boundary
lingering in the region. A low pressure system should eject eastward
along the Gulf South Thursday into Friday, with model guidance
coming into some better agreement about the timing and location of
the low. Abundant low-level moisture recovery is expected beneath a
mid-level cap, so severe thunderstorm chances will increase from
west to east by Thursday evening as a sharp Pacific cold front is
driven eastward by the rapidly deepening low pressure system. This
strong and dynamic system will be accompanied by strong winds
through the depth of the atmosphere. Deep-layer shear should be
perpendicular to the front, so discrete supercells are likely in
addition to possible linear segments as the storms mature and move
eastward. At this time, expect hazards to include tornadoes (some
possibly strong), damaging winds, and large hail. Gusty winds will
also possible around the region ahead of and behind the front. /NF/

A humid boundary layer associated with a weak nearly stationary
frontal boundary will continue to support a considerable amount of
sub-VFR stratus and likely some fog as well during the early
morning hours when LIFR categories are most probable. Stratus/fog
will dissipate as we get beyond mid Sunday morning and VFR
conditions should develop at most sites by afternoon and continue
into the evening. Sfc wind will be light and variable. /EC/
