The near term forecast is on track with the residual stratus
expected to erode and diminish as we go through the afternoon.
Have just made some minor updates based on obs trends for this
morning update. Newer guidance suggests the forecast for late
tomorrow/tomorrow night is generally on track as well with
greatest impacts focused on the evening to overnight time frame.

Today and Tonight: Cooler than normal and dry through the period.
Early morning satellite imagery/RAP analysis showed the circulation
around an upper level trough to our northeast with its axis now east
of Mississippi. This upper level trough will continue shifting east
and be replaced by mid level ridging today. Early morning surface
analysis had a 1024mb high centered over the Red river valley. This
surface high will shift east becoming centered over northern
Mississippi this afternoon. Ridging surface and aloft will help
clear out some of the remaining stratus over our CWA and allow for a
decent amount of insolation. The continued weak CAA will offset the
insolation and help hold temperatures a few degrees shy of seasonal
norms. Both ridging surface and aloft will continue shifting east
through tonight. This will lead to a very light light return flow in
our southwest by morning and an increase in clouds as our wind aloft
becomes southwesterly by morning. This will hold morning lows in the
upper 30s southwest while coldest morning lows just below freezing
are expected in our northeast. /22/

Tuesday through Sunday night...An upper low will deepen over the
southern planes early Tuesday and move into the Ohio Valley by
Wednesday. The surface low will deepen during this period and move
from Southeast Texas across Northwest Mississippi Tuesday night.
Showers will move into the southwestern portions of the area Tuesday
afternoon, with showers/thunderstorms spreading across the area
through the evening into the overnight. It continues to look like
the best combination of severe ingredients will be over the
southeastern portions of the area Tuesday into Tuesday night. An
enhanced risk has been introduced for the far southeastern portions
of the area, with a marginal/slight risk further north. The surface
pressure gradient will strengthen Tuesday, with strong southeast
winds expected out ahead of the front. A graphic has already been
issued for the winds, with gusts from 40-50 possible across portions
of the area. Along with the potential for severs storms, a quick 2-3
inches of rain are likely across much of the area, so a limited risk
for flooding is also being advertised. The rain will end from west
to east Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

High pressure will build in on Wednesday with cool temperatures in
the 40s/50s. The models suggest another weak cold front will move
across the area Thursday into Friday, but will be a dry frontal
passage. Thursday night looks to be the coldest night in the
extended, with lows falling into the upper 20s across most of the
area. The dry/cool conditions will continue through Saturday, but
another short wave will bring more rain to the region Saturday night
through Sunday night. /15/

conditions to prevail for the most part as we go through the
forecast period. Look for light mostly NNE wind to veer to a more

Severe storms capable of damaging wind gusts, tornadoes and hail
to the size of quarters are likely over the southeast half of the
area Tuesday night. The most intense storms are expected south of
a line from Columbia to Laurel.
