.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 446 AM EDT Fri Mar 31 2023

Scattered showers with a chance of a few thunderstorms early this
morning will likely diminish by midday. A line of strong to
possibly severe storms will sweep through the region from west to
east this evening and reach northwest Ohio around midnight.
The primary hazard is isolated damaging wind gusts. Colder air
sweeps through the region on Saturday with temperatures falling
through the 40s and into the 30s. Strong, non-thunderstorm winds
with gusts up to 50 mph are expected early Saturday morning into
the afternoon hours.

.SHORT TERM...(Today and Tonight)
Issued at 446 AM EDT Fri Mar 31 2023

Psuedo warm front/isodrosothermal gradient extending from
southeast Iowa to southern Illinois early this morning with
southwest 50 to 60 knots low level jet impinging should aid in
maintaining isolated/scattered elevated convection into CWA
through the morning hours. Convection to wane midday as core of
jet diurnally weakens/shifts into western Lake Erie. Lowered PoPs
midday/early afternoon with notable 2-4kft layer inversion in wake
of morning convection which should be limiting factor for midday
convection.

Primary focus remains on severe weather potential late tonight
with perhaps significant, initially discrete mode upstream,
evolving into quasi-linear convective system to sweep through CWA
in roughly 01-05 UTC Saturday timeframe. Intense mid level vortex
over Wyoming to track eastward through the southern portion of the
Upper Great Lakes/near GRR by daybreak Saturday. Associated
leading edge of mid level cold pool on order of M25C, along with
250-300m/12 hour height falls, point to intense deep layer ascent
within high 8-9C/km mid level lapse rate pool. Magnitude of
general ascent and leading edge of convection to easily erase any
remaining 2-4 kft layer stability. Strong kinematic field within
high shear (60-70 knots 0-6 km, normal to linear system)/low CAPE
environment gives concern that severe reports, mainly scattered
damaging wind gusts 50-60 kts could maintain along line through
eastern CWA, despite waning MLCAPE, as 750-900 J/kg western CWA
diminishes around 00/01 UTC in plume of middle/upper 50s surface
dewpoints to around 100-200 J/kg as line exits around 05 UTC. Non-
zero potential exists for line breaks associated with mesobeta
vorticies with low tornadic risk within highly helical 400 m2/s2
0-1km layer, especially far western CWA in early stages of
convective morphology transition.

.LONG TERM...(Saturday through Thursday)

Passage of secondary trough near daybreak Saturday to
mark onslaught of strong cold air advection. Temperatures slowly
falling through the day. Very steep surface to 800 mb lapse rates to
afford post frontal downward momentum transfer of at least 40 knots.
Of note is intense isallobaric couplet on order of 25-30mb/6 hrs
with notable 18-20mb rises tracking just north of CWA, potentially
favoring some higher gusts along Berrien shoreline with possible
damage.

Sunday into Monday morning dry with elongated surface ridge
encompassing Great Lakes to Southeast Coastal States. Shallow mid
level trough with mid level jet, along with modest frontal
wave/northward moisture flux for chance showers/storms.

A more significant system deepens across the northern Plains midweek
with decent tap of GOMEX moisture to likely afford surface dewpoints
into the lower 60s late Tuesday into southern CWA as warm front
lifts northward, followed by cold frontal passage midday Wednesday.
Decent chance of convection late day Tuesday/early Wednesday that
will need to be watched given overall strength for possible severe
potential middle of next week, especially should timing trend more
favorable to diurnal destabilization cycle.

Warm air advection with impressive low level theta E flux was
helping showers and a few storms to develop southwest of the
terminals near the start of the TAF period. Given the latest obs
and trends and the most recent high resolution model data, have
included a TEMPO group for storms at both SBN and FWA before
daybreak at the moisture flux increases ahead of the warm front.
Isolated to scattered showers are expected midday before a strong
cold front accompanied by storms with strong gusty winds arrives.
Thunderstorms may bring wind gusts over 40 knots. Do not have
high confidence in predominant IFR model ceilings during the day
given the category rarity (IFR ceiling <5%) by midday.
