Have had to make some changes to the hourly temperatures to account
for a much faster diurnal cooling than what was expected earlier
with temperatures down to near freezing in our northern counties.
Still think the overnight lows look reasonable based on current
surface dew point depressions, but did make some minor drops to the
far northern counties that have seen the more extreme temperature
drops.

Another concern towards daybreak will be patchy areas of fog and low
clouds.  With light winds and marginal moisture, could easily see
there being some MVFR fog like there was 2 nights ago.  Not
expecting anything dense, but favored areas may see visibilities
down to a mile.  Will continue to monitor for any mention in the
forecast going forward.

.Short Term...(This evening through Wednesday)

A line of light rain showers, currently over southern IN, has
moved through central Indiana along a weak elevated pressure
trough. The forcing along this trough has decrease throughout the
day as the parent low pressure system detaches from the warm air
within occlusion over Canada. This lack of forcing will eventually
cause the boundary to stall, creating a stationary boundary over
southern IN/northern KY later this evening. This stalled boundary
could create isolated chances for light rain this evening and
tonight for far southern portions of central Indiana, but QPF
should be less than 0.05". Temperatures have remained steady
within a well mixed environment behind the trough. This will
slowly decline through diurnal cooling tonight. Dew points in the
20s with mostly clear skies should lead to overnight lows around
to just below freezing. Further south, cloud cover will be higher,
of which could inhibit diurnal cooling leading to higher morning
temperatures.

Most of tomorrow will be calm with central Indiana within the
precipice of two systems. Temperatures wont be quite as high as
slightly cooler easterly flow moderates the surface. Current
expectation is for afternoon highs in the upper 40s to low 50s.
Cloud cover and precipitation chances will increase steadily into
the evening as a potent wave approaches from the west. Strong
dynamic forcing will lift the previously stalled boundary
northward, creating a corridor of broad isentropic lift. Initial
showers should be relatively light, but consistent rain will lead
to a few tenths of an inch.

Overnight, a deepening surface cyclone will push to the NE, with a
developing LLJ of 60-70knots. The magnitude of the LLJ will create
quite a few caveats including an impressive moisture transport
with PWATS 300-400% above normal. Temperatures will also increase
throughout the night eventually leading to a noticeable
temperature gradient along a developing warm front. South of the
front, temperatures should reach 60 degrees, leading to daytime
maximums for Thursday to occur well before solar noon. Numerous to
widespread showers are expected within the warm sector, some of
which could produce high rain rates at times given a deep
saturation profile. Also of concern will be mixing winds within
showers. 1000 ft winds of 55-60 kts will provide a precarious
situation with minimal convective mixing needed to produce
isolated severe wind gusts.

.Long Term...(Wednesday night through Tuesday)

Wednesday night and Thursday...

The low will continue to deepen within a highly dynamic environment
and strong baroclinic zone. This will lead to a further steepening
pressure gradient over central Indiana. Rain showers will exit to
the NE Thursday morning in front of a dry slot. Within the dry slot
non-thunderstorm winds become a concern with the lower level lapse
rates steepening and increasing mixing depth. Ensemble means of 45-
50kt wind gusts along with an efficient wind environment has lead to
a High Wind Watch for northern portions of central Indiana.

The cold air should remain well NW of central Indiana with the DCB
limiting its southward extend, but still a steady drop in
temperatures are likely within the dry slot. This should lead to
daytime highs in the mid to upper 40s.

Thursday Night through Sunday...

The remainder of the long term will feature a progressive upper
pattern as the tight zonal flow transitions to steady flow of rather
broad short waves tracking west to east across the northern CONUS.
This will promote an overall slow moderation while mainly dry
conditions continue as best forcing passes to our north and fails to
phase with southern/Gulf moisture.

But for starters, broad and very strong 1040 mb arctic high pressure
will envelop the eastern half of North America through the late-week
...although Indiana's proximity within the southern quadrants of the
ridge will only bring the local region a glancing blow of sub-normal
cold. A decent pressure gradient behind the cold front will produce
robust north-northwesterly flow Thursday night and Friday morning.
Gusts as high as 20-30 mph, especially over northern/central
counties will advect in lows into the teens and drop wind chills to
as low as near zero for most zones.  Lowest low-level thicknesses
and temperatures will cross the region during the day Friday...with
high temperatures consequently only rebounding slightly into the 20s
as the cold flow diminishes.

Moderation will be noticeable going into the weekend between the
large arctic blob departing to the eastern seaboard and low pressure
crossing Ontario...bringing broad, increasing return flow veering
through southerly wind directions.  These moderating winds are
expected to gust as high as 25-35 mph for around a 24-hr period
within the weekend.  Temperatures should be boosted above freezing
Saturday...and to unseasonable warmth on Sunday.  Precipitable water
values will increase slightly by the end of the weekend, but no
confidence in any sources of lift will maintain a dry forecast.

Next Monday through Tuesday...

More moderated surface high pressure is expected to prevail across
Indiana as the northern-stream weekend system departs to
southeastern Canada.  Subsidence should be in control as mid-levels
build into a ridge pattern over the region ahead of the next area of
low pressure.  Ensembles suggest this next mid-latitude wave will be
broader and deeper, probably tapping into at least marginal amounts
of southern stream moisture.  So far appear at least low chances of
precipitation returning as the long term ends ahead of the system's
trailing, elongated frontal boundary.  Much greater confidence in
any rain over any frozen precipitation types following another round
of robust southerly flow...with temperatures expected to remain
above normal.

Impacts:
- Light and variable winds early this morning, starting generally
from the north and becoming east to southeasterly by midmorning
- Rain will bring MVFR to IFR vsbys near or after 00Z
- MVFR cigs becoming IFR from 01Z to 04Z

Discussion:

Partly to mostly cloudy skies expected through the afternoon with
VFR conditions. Northerly winds of less than 5 kts will start out
the period which will shift to be easterly to southeasterly by mid
morning.

Rain will start to move in from the south by late Wednesday
afternoon into the evening. It will bring with it MVFR and lower
conditions and last through the remainder of the period. IFR will be
possible starting from 01 to 04Z that should improve to MVFR by
daybreak tomorrow. Rain will be heavy at times.

Winds increase with the incoming system as well, with surface gusts
increasing to 25 kts by 06Z and up to 40 kts by 12Z. Towards the end
of the 30 hour TAF period, there will also be a wind shear threat.

A few rumbles of thunder and heavy rain are possible Wednesday
night into Thursday. Localized flooding and non-thunderstorm wind
gusts to near 50 mph are also possible Wednesday night and Thursday.
Winds may gust up to 60 mph north of Interstate 70.
