Carolina Road observe minor coastal flooding of about one foot
in depth. In downtown Wilmington, several blocks of Water
Street observe shallow flooding from one half to one foot in
depth. The low-lying areas along River Road and adjacent
residential roads, south of River Road Park, will begin to
flood. Route 133 at Little Mallory Creek may begin to flood.
Check with local officials for any road closures or impacts.

* WHAT...Up to one foot of inundation above ground level
expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal

* WHERE...The lower Cape Fear River including downtown
Wilmington.
* WHEN...From 8 PM this evening to 2 AM EDT Monday.
* IMPACTS...The lowest portions of Battleship Road and USS North
Carolina Road observe minor coastal flooding of about one foot
in depth. In downtown Wilmington, several blocks of Water
Street observe shallow flooding from one half to one foot in
depth. The low-lying areas along River Road and adjacent
residential roads, south of River Road Park, will begin to
flood. Route 133 at Little Mallory Creek may begin to flood.
Check with local officials for any road closures or impacts.

.SYNOPSIS...
A dry cold front will move through tonight into early Sunday,
bringing cooler temperatures and drier weather for early next
week. A brief warmup on Tuesday and Wednesday will precede
another slow-moving cold front which will bring our next chance
for rain during the midweek period. A slight cooldown arrives
behind this cold front for late in the week.
&&
.UPDATE...
Only minor adjustments needed for the evening update. Backdoor
cold front will still arrive overnight, increasing wind speeds
and spreading clouds over the region.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Summer-like feel has returned at least temporarily across the
area with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs well in to the
80s. A backdoor cold front will move across between 03-06 UTC
tonight with a decent wind shift and really no pops to speak of.
The winds will have more impacts on the coastal waters (small
craft advisory) and coastal flooding (coastal flood advisories).
Lows tonight will be on the lower 60s or so and highs Sunday
struggling to make it into the upper 70s.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Main story in this period will be unseasonably cool and dry
conditions filtering down from the north behind the backdoor
cold front with high pressure to our west and a fairly strong
surface low off the New England coast bringing pwats down to
around 0.75", which is 1-2 standard deviations below normal.
This dry air will bring clearing skies on Sunday night with lows
falling into the low-mid 50s. This will lead in to a beautiful,
mostly sunny, and mild Monday with winds abating as the tighter
pressure gradient seen on Sunday relaxes. Dewpoints in the low-
mid 50s on Monday will feel much drier than usual for early
June, which is a great reason to get outdoors. A closed upper
low meandering near the New England coast looks to have a
shortwave rotate around its backside on Monday and Monday night.
This will send a second cold front towards our area as another
push of cool/dry air occurs. As weak high pressure moves
offshore late Monday, winds swing back around to southerly on
Monday night with dewpoints creeping back up.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
With the aforementioned shortwave pivoting around the closed low
east of New England, the initial push of cool air will slow
down, as will the cold front. This should keep it near or north
of our area at the start of the period. A generally south to
southwesterly flow ahead of the front should help dewpoints
recover back into the low to perhaps mid-60s on Tuesday. Warm
advection ahead of the front will also help boost high temps
back to near normal on Tuesday into the mid- upper 80s.
As another shortwave rotates around the closed low on
Tuesday night into Wednesday, the cold front should receive
another push and slide into our area. Given weak forcing and
weak surface convergence this far south, only a few isolated
showers and perhaps a brief pulse thunderstorm are possible
Tuesday afternoon and evening. Winds will turn westerly to
northwesterly as the front moves into our CWA on Wednesday, but
it will stall as support from the shortwave lifts away. Somewhat
drier dewpoints filter in behind the front, falling mainly into
the mid-upper 50s away from the coast. This will keep shower
chances confined to the southern and eastern zones. Temps will
not change much given a lack of defined cold advection, with
highs in the mid-upper 80s and lows in the low-mid 60s for
Tuesday night through Wednesday.
Yet another shortwave is expected to pivot around the closed
upper low for Wednesday night through Thursday, which should
finally shove the cold front south of our area by early Friday.
This will increase chances for showers and isolated storms
on Thursday as somewhat better forcing should reach down into
our area. Differences in the guidance regarding timing and
magnitude of this wave preclude any greater than 30% PoPs on
Thursday at this time, but these may increase in future
forecasts. On Friday, forcing associated with the shortwave
should push southward, lowering rain chances for Friday.

.AVIATION /00Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Cold front moves across the area from the north tonight with an
increase in low level moisture behind the front. Northeast
winds will also develop behind the boundary with speeds
increasing and gusts to 20 kt possible after midnight continuing
through Sun afternoon. Breezy northeast winds will keep fog
from developing, but the increased low level moisture post front
will lead to development of a stratus deck. Ceilings should
remain above 1k ft, but could dip under 2k ft, especially along
the coast. Ceilings will rise out of the MVFR category a few
hours after sunrise.
Extended Outlook...Mainly VFR conditions are expected later
Sunday into early next week.

.MARINE...
Through Sunday... A modest northeasterly flow continues across
the waters this afternoon although closer to the coast where a
decent sea breeze has developed winds probably have more of an
easterly component. Speeds remain modest in a range of 10-15
knots. Changes are in order tonight as a back door cold front
moves across. Strong northeast winds will develop in a range of
20-25 knots and continue through Sunday. Significant seas will
follow a similar trend with 2- 3 feet currently increasing to
4-7 feet Sunday.
Sunday night through Thursday...
High pressure will move overhead on Sunday night, with SCA-level
winds and seas gradually decreasing through the night and
falling further on Monday as the high remains in place. Winds
swing around to southeasterly by late Monday and veer further to
southwesterly on Monday night as return flow sets up behind the
departing high. Seas will finally settle into the 2-3 ft range
on Monday night with an easterly 8 sec swell. A cold front
approaches from the north on Tuesday, but should remain north of
the waters, maintaining southwesterly flow which increases to
15-20 kts by late Tuesday while seas creep back into the 3-4 ft
range at 8 sec. The front will waver a bit, causing winds to
weaken and vary between westerly and southerly on Wednesday
before becoming more distinctly northerly on Thursday. Seas drop
back into the 2-3 ft range on Wednesday with a
south-southwesterly wind wave at 6 sec dominating into Thursday
before winds shift to northerly behind the front.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Astronomical tides continue to grow as the full moon occurs tonight.
In addition, larger than normal tide departures continue this
evening as a strong inland wedge of high pressure creates a N to
NE fetch all the way from New England, the resulting surge
combining with the large astronomical tides. Could see Moderate
Flood and thus Watches/Warnings especially after seeing how
tonight and Saturday's tides end up verifying.
