.SYNOPSIS...
As a strong area of low pressure departs the region tonight, a stout
pressure gradient will develop in it's wake through Monday before
giving way to high pressure later on Tuesday.  Dry high pressure
will then linger atop the region for the rest of the work week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 1140 AM Sunday: The current axis of heavy rainfall is
teetering along the eastern fringe of the CWA, with radar showing
higher reflectivity in Chester and Union (NC and SC) counties. There
currently is little to no rain falling in the western half of the
CWA, which is likely to continue as latest CAM guidance keeps the
track of the low more to the east. Therefore, adjusted PoP to align
with current trends. Winds are not a problem at this time, but are
still on track to increasing this afternoon and overnight.

The latest HRRR has actually come down a decent amt with QPF
response across the srn BR and even the I-77 corridor thru this
evening. Still think the best rainfall amts will be across the far
ern zones where possibly up to 2.5 inches is possible locally (Union
Co NC) and there still remains a risk of isol stream and urban
flooding by this evening. However, wouldn't be surprised if the
actual rain amts were notably lower in most areas either. Freezing
levels drop overnight a changeover to snow is likely arnd 06z across
the higher NC mtn elevations. Not expecting much accum thru
daybreak, but the Smokies could see arnd an inch. Roadways in this
area may become slick as the snow may continue thru mid-morning.

Strong winds still look likely to develop by this evening as the
passing low tightens the p/grad and shallow mixing reaches into a
stg llvl jet. Gusts across the ern zones should increase into the 25-
35 mph range and continue thru the overnight. Not really strong enuf
for an advisory, but with moist soils, trees may fall and power
outages are possible. A different story across the NC mtns where an
incoming cold front shifts winds nw/ly and CAA flow brings strong
winds to the surface. Expect winds at the higher peaks to possibly
reach high wind warning criteria, yet not enuf area will be
affected, so will issue a high-end wind advisory county-wide across
the the central and srn NC mtns, and a high elevation advisory
across the srn mtns. Will likely see trees downed and power losses
across some of these areas through daybreak. With high cloud cover
and not much of an airmass mix until late, expect max and min temps
to hover a little below or right arnd normal.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
As of 245 am EST Sunday: A brief lull in the strong and gusty NW
winds is expected over the area around mid-day Monday, as the flow
backs and weakens a bit in response to a strong upper low/associated
jet max that is forecast to dig toward the southern Appalachians
throughout the day. As the upper trough axis crosses the forecast
area during late afternoon into the evening, moisture is forecast to
deepen from the TN Valley to the western slopes of the NC mountains,
coincident with a resurgence of NW low level/upslope flow and cold
advection. This should result in a burst of scattered to numerous
snow showers near the TN/NC border within a couple of hours either
side of 00Z Tue.

Ingredients should align for accumulating snow showers, as H8 flow
is expected to increase to around 40 kts, with some degree of a
Great Lakes connection, while temps at the top of the moist layer
are expected to cool to around -20 C...more than adequate for growth
of dendritic ice crystals. The primary limiting factor for a higher-
end NW flow event will be duration, as the upper trough is expected
to sweep east of the area rather quickly, and the depth of the moist
layer becomes unfavorable for anything more than rime icing by 12Z
Tue. Nevertheless, accums of 1-4" with locally higher amounts are
expected in the usual high elevation locations along the TN border.
A Winter Wx Advisory will likely be issued later today or tonight.
It also appears likely that re-surging NW winds will warrant another
Wind Advisory in the usual eastern Blue Ridge escarpment/downslope
areas for late tomorrow through Mon night.

Winds will steadily abate early Tuesday, with cold and dry
conditions expected for the remainder of the short term.
Temperatures are forecast to be a good 5-10 degrees below climo from
Mon night through Tue night. Widespread wind chill values in the
single digits...with some high elevation sub-zero readings...are
expected across the mountains Tue morning.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 300 am EST Sunday: The air mass will already be in a state of
moderating at the beginning of the extended, as a deep upper trough
will be progressing off the East Coast, and a ridge will be building
from the TN Valley through the Great Lakes. This ridge is expected
to remain more or less in place through the end of the period within
an amplifying/increasingly non-progressive pattern. One more day of
below-normal temperatures is expected in the Wed/Wed night time
frame, before above-normal highs return for the latter half of the
week. A dry air mass will support large diurnal ranges/min temps
close to climo.

.AVIATION /18Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
At KCLT and elsewhere: Continued widespread rainfall, especially in
the eastern portion of the area, will keep flight restrictions in
place for at least the first half of the TAF period. Terminals will
stay IFR for VSBY and CIGS until around 00z, with conditions
starting to improve after that as the majority of the rain lifts
north. KCLT could even see LIFR briefly, but confidence is not high
enough to mention in TAF. Winds will become the next concern, with
speeds increasing this evening. Moderate to high end gusts are still
expected at all terminals through the end of the TAF period. Given
the strong wind gusts, LLWS remains at all sites except KAVL and
KAND. Westerly winds should offset any LLWS at KAVL and higher winds
should remain east of KAND. Winds outside the mountains will
gradually back from N/NE to a NW/W direction overnight and into
Monday morning as a cold front approaches the area.

Outlook: Drier conditions return Monday as wind gusts continue
through at least Monday evening. Dry high pressure returns after
Monday night and VFR conditions through the end of next week.

In addition to strong winds that are expected tonight into Monday
morning, winds are expected to become very gusty across the mountains
once again Monday evening, continuing through early Tuesday. Winds
could again gust as high as 50 mph across the high elevations and in
areas along and near the Blue Ridge escarpment.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for northeast Georgia, western
North Carolina and upstate South Carolina.

.DAY ONE...Today and tonight.

Winds are expected to increase and become very gusty across portions
of the area this afternoon, continuing into the evening. Gusts of 30
to 40 mph will be possible, with some potential for occasional
higher gusts across the mountains of northeast Georgia and South
Carolina. These gusts are expected to bring down a few trees and
tree limbs, and isolated power outages are possible.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for piedmont North Carolina and
upstate South Carolina.

.DAY ONE...Today and tonight.

Moderate to occasionally heavy rain is expected to develop across
the Piedmont of the Carolinas today as a strong low pressure system
moves northeast along the Southeast Coast. 2 to 3 inches of rain are
forecast along and east of the I-77 corridor. This could result in
isolated flooding, mainly this afternoon. Windy to very windy
conditions will also develop, with gusts of 30 to 45 mph expected.
These gusts are expected to bring down some trees and tree limbs,
possibly resulting in isolated to scattered power outages.
