* IMPACTS...At 18.0 feet, Minor flooding expands in the woodlands 
  and pastures upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 
  280. A campground and a few out buildings begin to flood several 
  miles south of Mount Vernon. Eleven homes in the Cherokee Sand 
  Ridge subdivision are surrounded by water. Dead River Road becomes 
  flooded and is closed.

  - At 3:00 AM EDT Friday the stage was 12.3 feet.
  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage
    early tomorrow afternoon and continue rising to a crest of
    18.5 feet early Monday morning.

  downstream and right bank from the U.S. Highway 80 bridge.

A quiet evening is in store for north and central Georgia. High
pressure will gradually shift east towards the coast resulting in
southerly winds and moisture returning to the region. In response
to increasing cloud cover, low temperatures are forecast to be
slightly warmer with temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s.

At this time, rain chances will remain confined to far North GA
during the day on Friday, though cloudy skies will persist over
most locations. By Friday night, rain and thunderstorm chances
will start increasing ahead of a cold front which is forecast to
push through the state on Saturday. Cannot rule out a strong to
severe thunderstorm and gusty winds overnight Friday into Saturday
across North GA, as this system approaches from our NW. Though,
CAPE is limited, plenty of shear will be in place and a LLJ will
be passing just to our north. At this time, the Storm Prediction
Center has a Slight (2/5) Risk clipping our extreme NW counties
and a Marginal (1/5) Risk encompassing a few more of our northern
GA counties. Latest guidance has this system 'slowing down' just a
tad compared to recent runs. So will continue to assess
conditions as newer guidance becomes available.

.LONG TERM...

Saturday starts off the long term period as well as an active
weather pattern through the middle of next week. The deep mid
level trough will have moved eastward, while at the surface a low
pressure system is expected to push a cold front through our area
Friday overnight into Saturday morning. We are under a slight risk
from SPC at this time fro NW GA and a Day 3 marginal but this
could change. When looking at the parameters for this system, CAPE
values have increased to 500-1000 J/kg, and shear values are from
50- 80 kt. As we know here in Georgia, these lower CAPE/high
shear events are something to watch out for. The one thing that is
standing out that could limit the potential is how far north the
low pressure is expected to track (into Canada) by the time it
gets to our are. This could ultimately limit the forcing for the
area.

Following the frontal system, there are a few short wave troughs
that are expected to push moisture into our through the middle of
next week every couple of days. Currently our QPF values are not
that high (max ~1.5 inches in N Georgia), but PWATs are expected
to stay above average as these waves move through which could
ultimately give Georgia more rainfall. This will become clearer in
the next couple of days. Finally, since it is spring, we usually
get almost weekly frontal systems and later next week is no
exclusion. With it still being pretty far out in the forecast,
details are a little scattered but it should come together more
over the next few days.

Temps are expected to stay mild with highs in the 70s-low 80s and
lows in the 40s-50s which is about 7-9 degrees above
climatological norms.

period. A mid-/upper-level cloud deck will move in thru the early
morning hours. SSE winds at 8-12 kts are expected through the day,
though wind direction could waver to SSW at times during the
afternoon. Winds will become SSW and will stay elevated Friday
night into early Saturday morning. Have introduced VCSH at 04z
(with adjusted timing at the other ATL-area sites and AHN) and
TSRA with MVFR cigs and vis at 08z at ATL as a line of convection
is progged to move thru.
