FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 29 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central, north central, northeast and west 
  central Georgia.

* WHEN...From 2 AM to 10 AM EDT Friday.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other 
  sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor 
  plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent
freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should
be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have
in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-
ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Highlights:

-High Fire Danger conditions again today due to low relative
humidity.

-Near freezing temperatures possible again tonight.

Currently...Colder conditions have settled in across the region
tonight thanks to strong radiational cooling. Latest temperature
readings generally range from the upper 20s across far North GA to
mid 30s across south-central GA. Temperatures are expected to
continue falling over the next several hours and a Freeze Warning
remains in effect for the entire forecast area through 10AM.

A 1030+ mb surface high pressure area will remain situated across
the Southeast and quasi-zonal flow will characterize the upper
levels through the short-term period. As a result, we will continue
to experience dry and slightly below normal temperatures both today
and Friday. Forecast high temperatures for today will be in the
upper 50s to low 60s and on Friday warming into the 60s areawide.
Temperatures tonight will lower to near-freezing again with forecast
lows in the low to mid 30s and upper 20s across the far northeast GA
mountains.

Fire weather will be again be a concern for today due to low
relative humidity with forecast values ranging 20-25% for this
afternoon. Thankfully, easterly winds will be on the lighter side
through the day today at < 10 MPH. Though with ongoing significant
drought conditions across portions of the state and a drier airmass
in place a Fire Danger Statement has been issued for this afternoon
and evening for all of North and Central Georgia.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday night through Wednesday)
Issued at 312 AM EDT Thu Nov 2 2023

A rapid warming trend will be ongoing to start the forecast period.
Surface high pressure will maintain its grip through the weekend and
to start the work week while the chance for any much needed rainfall
continues to trend downward and remain elusive. A shortwave will
traverse southeastward across the area on Sunday but bring no
rainfall or sensible impacts. After one more morning with potential
patchy frost on Saturday, highs will return near to slightly above
normal Saturday afternoon. Above normal temperatures will then
return on Sunday and persist through the remainder of the long term.
Highs will largely be in the 70s through midweek while lows will
creep up through the 40s and into the 50s by midweek.

The system that had looked more promising as far as bringing a
potential return to rainfall early next week has now trended farther
northward. Thus, the surface frontal boundary now looks to stall to
our north within the zonal flow aloft. Unfortunately, this means the
warm and increasingly dry week ahead will exacerbate worsening
drought conditions. Any indication for our next frontal system is
now delayed until late next week at the earliest.
