A broad longwave trough will continue to move eastward through the
CONUS through the short term period. The movement of this trough is
forcing a cold front into north Georgia at the time of this writing.
Cloud cover has increased to the north of I-85 in the areas along
and ahead of this front. High temperatures in this area north of I-
85 will be in the 70s, with low to mid 80s forecast to the south.
Due to dry air at the lower levels, widespread rain and
thunderstorms are not expected. In fact, showers ahead of the front
will be isolated to scattered in coverage warranting low-end chance
PoPs at best in portions of north Georgia. The forecast for
measurable rainfall has increased in the latest forecast package,
but this is not saying much with QPF ranging from a trace to
0.05" across the norther part of the state. Unfortunately, these
meager rainfall amounts are not expected to bring any improvement
to ongoing drought conditions across the area.

Winds behind the front will shift to northwesterly, ushering in the
coldest airmass we have seen so far this season. There will be a
large spread of temperatures across the area on Tuesday, with
morning lows mainly in the 40s along and north of the I-85 corridor
and to the 50s to the south and east. High temperatures will rise
into the mid 50s to low 60s across the majority of the area, with
the exception of east-central Georgia, which will rise into the mid
60s to low 70s. A weak surface boundary behind the front in portions
of east and northeast Georgia could allow for the development of
isolated to scattered light showers in the morning and early
afternoon tomorrow, although measurable rainfall will be minimal.
Rain chances will diminish as the afternoon goes, with only a
10-20 percent chance of rain lingering in east-central Georgia as
Trick-or- Treaters get started for the evening.

The colder temperatures will really get settled into the forecast
area Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with a reinforcing shot of
arctic air. The most widespread freezing temperatures of the season
thus far are expected by Wednesday morning. Most of north Georgia
should drop into the low 30s with areas of far north Georgia into
the north Georgia mountains dropping as low as the mid 20s. Given
the high confidence for temperatures near and below freezing for
north Georgia, a Freeze Watch remains in effect for these areas
Wednesday morning.

Critical fire weather conditions will continue to be a growing
concern as we head into Tuesday and especially by mid-week as much
drier arctic airmass settles in across the forecast area. Low
relative humidity values, combined with ongoing drought conditions
and very dry fuels has warranted the Issuance of a Fire Weather
Watch in portions of far northwest Georgia. Another Fire Weather
Watch will be needed on Wednesday across the majority of the
forecast area, and will be issued in an ensuing forecast package.

By Wednesday morning, the arctic airmass will be solidly in place as
surface high pressure over the central Plains builds in and the
broad upper level flow transitions into a less amplified trough. At
this point in the long term forecast, the reinforcing shot of cold
air will have overspread much of north and central Georgia. This
cold air will make for a chilly start to Wednesday with locations
across north Georgia in the 20s and gradually warming along a
gradient to the southeast into the low 40s. As a result, a Freeze
Watch is in effect for north Georgia and portions of central Georgia
through Wednesday morning. Additionally, strong northwest winds
Wednesday morning will result in wind chills in the teens across
much of north and western Georgia while single digit wind chills
will be felt in higher elevations. Maximum daily temperatures on
Wednesday will only reach the upper 50s while locations in the north
Georgia mountains will have a hard time reaching the upper 40s.
Overnight Wednesday through Thursday morning will also likely merit
a Freeze Watch for central Georgia as temperatures at or below the
freezing mark will be widespread. Frost is also expected during this
time period as wind speeds will have backed off enough to allow for
development.

While this airmass will bring a sensible change in temperatures to
the start of the forecast period, it will also bring critical fire
weather conditions to the forecast area Wednesday. Dewpoints in the
teens and 20s will result in relative humidities reaching critical
thresholds in the mid to low 20s for much of the forecast area on
Wednesday and Thursday. Relative humidities in the 20s are expected
to persist through Friday, primarily for locations north of I-20.
Have blended in NBM10 as dewpoints tend to run cooler in post-
frontal airmasses, however, dewpoints will need to be monitored as
they could trend cooler than advertised. On Wednesday, northwest
winds will increase in the late evening and through the overnight
hours where gusts over 25 mph are expected areawide with higher wind
gusts along mountain ridges. These factors combined with dry fuels
will result in likely fire weather product issuances in the coming
days. It is strongly recommended to refrain from burning outdoors.

Strong high pressure will develop over the Carolinas by Thursday and
the flow aloft will become more zonal throughout the remainder of
the long term forecast period. Expect temperatures to rebound
gradually where trends will moderate to highs in the 60s and 70s and
lows in the 40s and 50s by the weekend. Finally, with no PoPs in the
long term forecast, drought conditions across the state are expected
to deteriorate even further.KAL

SCT to BKN MVFR cigs (~1500 to 2000ft) has streaming into the
northern sections of the area at this hour. Introduced a TEMPO as
cigs look like they will be up and down for several hours.
However, cigs through the period will largely be low-end VFR
(~3500 to 5000 ft) through early afternoon. Skies will quickly
clear out across the north btwn 21-00z. NW winds have diminished
some but are expected to pick back up between 15 to 18z Tuesday
and should persist through the remainder of the period. Peak gusts
will range from 20 to 27kts.

GEORGIA DUE TO LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES AND GUSTY WINDS...

Relative Humidities of 25 percent or less and strong northwest
winds of 10 to 15 MPH with gusts up to 25 MPH will be possible
this afternoon and into the evening. With much drier air starting
to filter into the region today, conditions will need to be
monitored for any potential Red Flag Criteria being met.

With dry fuels, high fire danger conditions can be expected.
