Active weather will begin to move in late Wednesday afternoon with
breezy to windy conditions expected for much of the day. A winter
storm system will move across the area bringing snow showers to
the mountains and a mix of rain and snow showers to the lowlands
especially overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. The winds
will continue to be breezy to windy on Thursday behind the passage
of a cold front. The temperatures on Thursday will be the coolest
of the week. The winds will decrease with the temperatures
warming to above the normal the rest of the week and through the
weekend as high pressure dominates our weather.

Currently, the skies are mostly sunny with the winds breezy in
most locations. Nevertheless, the weather is quiet at this time.
For tonight, the upper level trough of low pressure across the
Southwest will continue to gradually inch closer to the area to
our area. Any breezy conditions will mostly likely occur in the
mountains with the lowlands mostly light. The clouds will however
over the Borderland with the flow at the surface and aloft mainly
from the west southwest. This will allow for warmer air to be
advected into the region causing the low temperatures to be a
couple of degrees warmer than this morning's low temperatures. For
Wednesday, the winds will begin to pick up with the boundary
layer winds between 35 and 45 mph across much of the area. With
that said, a Wind Advisory has been issued for much of the
counties except for the El Paso and Hudspeth counties. Along with
the windy conditions, dust is expected across the lowlands as the
flow will be southwesterly. The center of the upper low across
the Southwest will move over South-Central California by Wednesday
afternoon. Some clouds will hang around during the day, as the
trough deepens across the Southwest.

By Wednesday night, the winds will continue to be strong as the
center of this system moves out from Arizona and into New Mexico.
The winds will be between between Wind Advisory and High Wind
Warning criteria across the lowlands and High Wind Warning in the
mountains. The winds will be the strongest in the mountains. As
this system begins to move through, the snow will likely fall in
the mountains and then spread across both the northern and
southern lowlands. As of now, the heaviest set of snow will fall
in the Gila Region/Black Range area through out the evening hours.
Areas of possible blowing snow expected especially in the
mountains as the winds will be strong. The snow will be moderate
to heavy at times; thus, blizzard conditions could take place in
in the mountains overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. Snow
levels will fall to the valley floors on Wednesday night. The
winds even in the lowlands will be strong; however, the snow will
be light, which should not cause any problems such as blizzard
conditions. However, should model trends continue to climb upward
of an 1 inch or above, a winter advisory could go into effect for
the lowlands Wednesday night through Thursday morning. A Winter
Storm Watch has been issued for the Gila Region/Black Range area
for Wednesday night.
On Thursday, the winds will continue to be strong with the
emphasis mainly east of the Rio Grande. A cold front associated
with this system will move across the area early that will cause
the high temperatures during the day to cool to well below the
normal for this time of the year. The center of the upper level
low will move across New Mexico on Thursday continuing to bring
wrap around moisture to the area. Snow showers will likely
continue for the mountains and possibly the lowland areas at
least until mid afternoon. The center of this low will move out of
the area on Thursday afternoon with dry cool air intruding the
area behind it. The winds will become light with the low
temperatures reaching to below the climatological normal. For the
rest of the week and through the weekend, the winds will be
relaxed with the temperature increasing a couple of degrees each
day as high pressure dominates our weather.

VFR conditions are expected through the period across all of the
TAF sites with CIG FEW-SCT250. There will be periods of SKC. The
winds will be light at first but will become breezy this afternoon
at until 02Z Wednesday at KTCS, KLRU and KDMN. The winds will be
between 15 and 20kts with gust up to 27kts at the aforementioned
sites. At KELP, the breezy winds should end around 05Z Wednesday.
The winds will be generally from the west and the southwest. There
will be no reduction in the VSBY across the runways.

.FIRE WEATHER...

The next storm system will begin diving south on Wednesday. As a
result, winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts
Wednesday afternoon. Critical humidity will be in place across the
lowlands as well and thus a Red Flag warning has been issued for
zones 112 in NM and 055, 056 in TX. That system will continue to dig
south and east during the overnight and into Thursday with continued
strong winds, much colder temperatures, and the chance for snow,
especially the Gila Region. Several inches of snow possible for the
Gila and a couple of inches for the Sacs. Winds will gust to around
60 mph at times Wed night into Thursday, mainly the higher terrain
and east of the Rio Grande. Not much impactful weather thereafter as
western flow aloft, warming temperatures, lighter winds, and
critical humidity take hold this weekend. Ventilation will be
Excellent Wednesday and Thursday then Fair to Good Friday into the
weekend.
