.SYNOPSIS...Breezy north winds are expected to develop along the
coast and up the coastal river valleys this afternoon through
Friday. A gradual warming trend is expected across the interior
through Friday. A cooling trend will begin Saturday with
significantly cooler temperatures expected Sunday and into early
next week. Early next, week some light rain is possible mainly for
areas north of Cape Mendocino.

.DISCUSSION...A shortwave trough is moving SE across NW California
this afternoon. Latest satellite imagery shows skies becoming mostly
sunny as mid to high clouds moves away of the area. Breezy
northwesterly have developed along the coast this afternoon. Gusts
of 25 to 35 mph are observed over along the coast; locally higher
over the coastal headlands this afternoon and evening. Some
diminish in the winds are expected this evening..however, breezy
winds will remain over the more prominent coastal headlands across
the North Coast.
Tonight, high pressure over the eastern Pacific will continue
building toward the Pacific Northwest in the wake of the
shortwave. This will allowed dry northeasterly flow development,
with gusty winds from around 25 to 35 mph mainly over the highest
elevation in Del Norte and northern Humboldt counties. Offshore
flow will yield clear skies along the coast. Although, a
southerly reversal will develop between Coastal Mendocino and
Sonoma counties bringing allowing some clouds to return in some
areas south of Fort Bragg.
A warming trend is expected on Thursday and Friday. Inland highs
are forecast to be in the upper 80s to near 90 and coastal areas
will likely see the low to mid 60s. The pressure gradient will
remain along the coast through Friday. This will keep breezy
northerly winds in place which will keep the coast from warming
much more than the mid 60s. Friday is forecast to be the warmest
and sunniest day with the offshore flow persisting north of Cape
Mendocino.
An unseasonably upper level trough will move over the Northwest
during the weekend and then drops down into Northern California
early next week. An associated dry cold front will move through
early Saturday morning, bringing slight cooler conditions. For
Father's Day, high temperatures are expected to be 10 to 15
degrees cooler in the interior valleys due to the cooler air aloft
and the marine push. At this point it looks like Sunday will be

.AVIATION...Overnight/early morning hours saw a repeat of low marine stratus
blanketing most of the North Coast. Two factors have caused the
stratus to dissipate a lot earlier today along the coast: increased
pressure gradient northerlies (especially at CEC) and a weak
disruptive system aloft. Winds should remain influential overnight
at CEC and become a little offshore at ACV...therefore limiting
stratus development at those two terminals. Over Humboldt Bay
(EKA), patchy stratus is more likely. There will be flow reversal
south of Cape Mendocino that will allow some Mendocino coastal
stratus to affect local area aviation. Offshore winds for the next
couple of days should keep interior areas VFR. /TA

.MARINE...No significant changes to the previous forecast. Gale
Force northerly winds and very steep, hazardous seas have
developed across all waters this afternoon. High pressure driving
these winds slides NE tonight and Thursday, which should allow for
a nearshore southerly reversal to develop in most of the southern
inners early Thursday morning...although Gale Force winds likely
persist in portions of the zone north of Shelter Cove. Conditions
begin to relax on Friday, although areas of near-Gale to Gale
Force gusts likely persist in portions of the outers well into
this weekend.
