afternoon. This morning there was widespread fog in valleys that
took until noon or later to burn off in some of the valleys.
Tonight a weak wave moves over the top of the ridge and this may
bring some mid level clouds, still expected fog to develop in some
of the valleys. Sunday some light rain is possible in Del Norte
county during the day, but the chance for this is diminishing. The
better chance for rain looks to be late in the afternoon or
evening, but it will still mainly be limited to Humboldt and Del
Norte counties. Rainfall amounts should be less than a half inch.
Snow levels are expected to be around 4500 to 5,000 feet. This is
lower than some of the model guidance, but with the cold air in
place it may help keep the snow levels down. However any snow that
does fall will be less than an inch. MKK
.LONG TERM...A pattern of upper level shortwaves and
associated frontal disturbances will continue impacting NW
California on Monday. Only minor accumulations of up to 0.25 inches
are currently expected in coastal Del Norte and Humboldt counties
Monday through Tuesday with intermittent rainfall. Light ridging and
a strong southerly flow regime will likely moderate temperatures
late Monday and Tuesday. NBM is showing daytime highs in the upper
50s, possibly 60, while overnight lows are shown only dipping into
the upper 30s in far interior valleys. More significant
precipitation is possible late Tuesday into Wednesday as a series of
upper level shortwaves contribute to a more active period for the
PNW heading into mid-week.
Model clusters are widely in agreement on anomalous upper level
troughing approaching the west coast and deepening by Wednesday,
aiding in the development of strong surface low pressure systems in
the pacific waters. These lows will aid in steering abundant
atmospheric moisture from the tropics to produce a series of
landfalling ARs. More impactful precipitation and potentially
advisory level winds are possible late Tuesday into Wednesday for
the entire CWA as one of these ARs makes landfall. NBM wind
probabilities have been trending upward to approaching 50KT gusts in
the coastal waters and exposed ridges. Depending on the strength of
the interior ridge, upper level temperatures may not be sufficiently
cold to bring snow levels much below 5,000ft. Much uncertainty is
still prevalent surrounding the location and timing of these ARs,
however it is likely that at least a portion of Northern California
will see impacts.

.AVIATION...High pressure and weak offshore flow is bringing VFR
conditions to the area. A few high clouds have started moving over
the area, but the impacts of these are expected to be minimal.
Tonight fog is expected in many of the interior valleys, although
it may not make it into KUKI. For now am just hinting at it with a
period of 5 mile vis and mist. Sunday clouds are expected to lower
at KACV and KCEC through morning as a system comes in, although it
may not drop into MVFR range until mid or late afternoon. MKK

.MARINE...Winds have died down this afternoon, but seas remain
elevated due to two long period northwest swells and residual wind
waves. Hazardous seas in the outer waters and small crafts along the
coasts will remain in effect through late this evening. A series of
frontal passages will begin to affect the region beginning Sunday as
the flow shifts to a southerly direction. Higher winds are expected
with these fronts, especially in the northern outer waters and
coastal areas around Cape Mendocino. Additionally, a long period
westerly swell with significant wave heights will fill in late
Sunday into Monday. Increasing southerly winds combined with this
swell have the potential to create steep and dangerous seas heading
into mid next week, including potential for shoaling and high surf
hazards.

.COASTAL FLOODING...The upcoming Full Cold Moon will bring high
tide values sufficient for coastal flooding late this weekend and
into next week. Strong southerly winds or large surf can
contribute to higher tidal anomalies. Coastal flood advisories
have already been issued tomorrow morning, with additional
advisories likely for the beginning of next week.
