.SYNOPSIS...Interior temperatures will decrease over the next
several days. The threat of isolated thunderstorms will persist
today and then shift over inland areas Friday and this weekend.

&&

.DISCUSSION...The persistent upper low off the CA coast continues
to meander. This feature is forecast to gradually deepen over the
next several days while remaining generally in the same area.
Southerly and southeasterly flow aloft will continue to transport
monsoonal moisture over the area today with precipitable water
values over 200% of normal. In addition, vorticity maxima will
rotate counter-clockwise around the broader circulation. This
will continue the threat of isolated dry thunderstorms this
morning. Radar has been showing returns spreading northward over
the area early this morning with a few cloud-to-ground strikes
occurring in northern Mendocino County and offshore over the
coastal waters. So far the lightning activity has been isolated.
Thus, we will hold off on hoisting a fire weather warning. After
the morning convective/thunder activity, expect more storms to
develop with the daytime heating over mostly the interior mountains.
The storms should be slightly wetter this afternoon, however a
few dry lightning strikes are still possible outside the main
precip cores. Above normal PWATS, instability and sufficient
buoyant energy will persist on Friday and this weekend. Daily
storms are forecast over the interior for the next several days.
Cooling aloft, higher buoyant energy and greater solar insolation
may yield slighlty stronger storms on Friday. Considerable smoke
from wildfires has been reducing the solar insolation, however.

Temperatures are forecast to remain above normal today, but will
"cool down" compared to the sweltering heat of the last several
days. A new record high was set at Ukiah yesterday, 109F. The old
record was 108F set just last year. The high today is forecast to
be 100F. Expect temperatures to remain slightly above normal over
the weekend; upper 80's to mid 90's. Some hotter valley sites may
continue to flirt near 100F Fri and Sat. Slightly greater cooling
is expected Sun into early next week. Smoke coverage will also be
a major factor.

As we get into early next week, moisture from the remnants of
Tropical Cyclone Hilary will spread northward. Deterministic and
ensemble guidance are starting to converge with this next surge of
moisture. The bulk of rain and showers will most likely head into
southern California and southern Great Basin. We could still see
some showers and thunderstorms, however inches of rain for NW
California appears highly unlikely. Stay tuned!

.AVIATION...LIFR conditions prevail at KACV early this morning.
However, the offshore flow and mid layer clouds has started to
disturb the shallow marine layer. Meanwhile, smoke from the Smith
Fire in Del Norte County will continue impacting the aerodrome of
KCEC with sky obscuration and visibility reduction. KBHX radar shows
some showers moving from southeast to northwest across the area this
morning, with isolated thunderstorms outside 10NM at all forecast
terminals. Offshore flow and mid layer clouds will continue to keep
the fog and stratus well offshore today and expect mostly VFR to
prevail. Thunderstorms are forecast to develop again over the
interior this afternoon and early evening with activity continue
moving north-northwest, with some VCTS possible at the coastal
terminal. Meanwhile, prevailing VFR conditions at UKI with mid to
high level moisture moving over the area.

.MARINE...Short-period steep NW wave around 6 to 7 ft continue
moving across the northern outer waters promoting hazardous
conditions for small craft. A gentle to moderate northerly breeze
will remain in place over the outer waters with winds generally no
greater than 18kt. Winds for the nearshore waters will continue to
remain relatively light and generally under 10 kt through today.
Showers and isolated thunderstorms will be likely throughout the day
today across the waters. Northerly winds are expected to increase
tonight into the weekend, with strong to near gale breezes around 20
to 30 kt developing on Friday over the outer waters. There is a high
probability (70-100%) for gale force gusts (35-40kt) over primarily
the northern outer waters (PZZ470), with more than 50% coverage
area. Have to hoisted a Gale Watch for the northern outer waters in
response from Friday afternoon. These winds will expanded into
portion of the southern outer waters, but limited areal coverage
(less than 50%) will preclude gale headlines at this time. However,
very steep and hazardous seas are forecast to build around 12 to 14
feet over the outer waters in response of the increasing winds
Friday evening into Saturday. As result, have to hoisted a Hazardous
Seas Watch for the southern outer waters from late Friday night.
Those waves are expected to propagate into the northern inner waters
and generate hazardous conditions for small craft on Friday through
the weekend, as well around Cape Mendocino.

.FIRE WEATHER...Mostly dry thunderstorms are expected again this
morning. Coverage is expected to remain isolated. Thunderstorms
will bring a risk of gusty outflow winds again today. Temperatures
will settle down today, but remain above normal into Saturday.
Above normal PWATS are expected Friday and this weekend. Thunderstorm
activity is forecast to persist over the interior today through
this weekend as an upper trough offshore slowly moves eastward.
Storms will likely be wetter and forced by terrain and daytime
heating this weekend.
