.SYNOPSIS...Very hot temperatures will build into the weekend for
the interior. Cooler temperatures will continue along the coast with
thins stratus clearing each afternoon.

.DISCUSSION...Clear skies in the interior combined with building
high pressure has allowed for above average temperatures throughout
the interior. Interior highs have reached the mid-90s. Meanwhile,
shallow coastal stratus has hung along shore. Strong heating allowed
for the coast to clear late in the morning, though building onshore
sea breeze has slowly brought stratus back late this afternoon.
A strong ridge of high pressure will continue to build into the
weekend, bringing excessive heat through the interior. NBM shows a
65% chance of UKI reaching its daily high temperature record of 109,
though there is only about a 10% chance of reaching the all time
record for June of 114. The rest of the interior will see similar
conditions with excessive heat warnings in place. There are some
places, such as the Humboldt interior, which also have well above
average high temperatures, but cool strongly into the 50s each night
under marine influence. These areas have much reduced Heat Risk so
are simply covered by advisories.
Strong high pressure will help continue to shallow out the marine
layer, bringing very low marine stratus that should effectively
clear out each afternoon into the weekend. NBM even suggests the
marine layer shallowing out to at least patchy surface fog the next
couple nights. At the same time, strong northerly breezes,
especially late in the weekend, will keep the coast cool, most
likely no warmer than the mid 60s.
Essentially all cluster ensemble members show the ridge breaking
down early next week, bringing more seasonable temperatures and a
deeper marine layer. This respite will likely be short lived with
about 70% of cluster ensemble members showing another hot ridge
building in around next Wednesday. /JHW

.AVIATION...The marine layer has lifted a bit this afternoon at the
coastal terminals with a weakening inversion. The return of a
shallow inversion is to be anticipated with the return of stratus
which will cause fluctuations in flight categories. As of 21z, VFR
conditions switching to LIFR at KCEC and a cloud deck around 400 to
600 feet, will lower tonight with the inversion. A brief period of
VFR at KACV this afternoon will be hindered by offshore stratus
building back in and a cloud deck around 600 feet as the inversion
has momentarily lifted. Lowered ceilings are expected tonight as
well at KACV as the inversion strengthens. Northerly winds under 8
kts will ease overnight, VFR conditions expected through the TAF
period at KUKI. /EYS

.MARINE...Northerly winds will persist through the period as high
pressure ridging builds over the western US. Winds will be strongest
south of Cape Mendocino, then spread north with widespread Gale
conditions over all of the outer waters by the weekend. Thus, a Gale
Watch has been hoisted for Saturday morning through early Sunday
morning. Steep seas will develop in response to northerly winds with
seas over 10 feet in the outer waters by Saturday evening. Gales are
possible to continue in the outer waters through the middle of next
week as high pressure builds again, especially for the southern
