.SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight)

Northwest flow aloft continues to assist with warm air advection
for the early morning hours on this first day of November, thanks
to an approaching upper level ridge at H5. Taking a look at the
satellite imagery overnight, both water vapor and nighttime
microphysics spectrum bands depict mid and high level clouds
quickly sweeping across the Intermountain West. Closer to our cwa,
wave cloud features are identified across the Snowy Range, and
the southern Laramie Range. Surface observations earlier this
morning had elevated wind gusts of 30-40mph, and due to this low-
level boundary layer mixing in the atmosphere, the warmer air
aloft is mixing down to the surface. Additionally, the westerly
winds arriving downslope off the Laramie Range foothills, have
assisted with keeping the temperatures elevated. The KCYS airport
near 6Z saw temperatures that were hovering in the upper 20s, and
an hour later at 7Z after the westerly winds picked up, the
observed temperature was nearly 15 degrees warmer in the lower
40s. Quite the downslope terrain effect that was realized in less
than an hour.

Have continued the current headline of the short-fused High Wind
Warning for the Elk Mountain/Arlington forecast zone due to the
gusty winds likely approaching 50 to 60mph through the mid-morning
hours. Conditions will remain dry across the area, but expect the
orographic developed clouds from the higher terrain to spill out
to the east through the mid-afternoon. Once the wind gusts
dissipate by late afternoon, albeit temporarily, the clouds will
also dissipate. Daytime high temperatures in the mid to upper 50s
east of the Laramie Range for today, with slightly cooler
temperatures west of the Laramie Range are forecast.

The aforementioned upper level ridge will continue to propagate to
the east, originating from the western CONUS. This upper level
ridge will amplify slowly to the north and east the next several
days. With northwest flow aloft remaining entrenched across the
the Northern Rockies and Northern Plains for the short-term
forecast timeframe, surface troughing will remain present across
the Laramie Range. Surface pressure gradients will remain tight as
well, and 700mb winds will begin to creep up from Wednesday night
into Friday. Confidence in the stronger winds aloft coupling with
subsidence over the wind prone and gap areas is slightly lower for
Thursday, but it ramps up much more so by Thursday evening. Have
gone with an expansion of areas under the High Wind Watch headline
due to gusts in excess of 60mph being possible. We will monitor
the model guidance trends in the event that upgrades from a Watch
to a Warning seems prudent for areas outside of the Arlington/Elk
Mountain area from Thursday into Friday. Outside of the winds,
expect daytime highs to remain near to slightly above average in
the 50s and low 60s for the lower terrain, and slightly cooler for
the mountain zones. Stay tuned for forecast updates, as it looks
like the fall wind machine may begin to ramp up across the area.

A progressive pattern will dominate the long term, leading to a
prolonged period of breezy conditions and the possibility for
precipitation next week.

country with a series of progressive shortwaves that are progged to
cut across the CWA. First, the zonal flow/shortwave combo will lead
to a favorable set-up for breezy conditions across southeast
Wyoming. This will likely mean elevated to marginally high winds
across the wind prones. Starting Friday, MSLP and CAG-CPR height
gradients will be on the decline from the previous day's high wind
event. However, 700 mb winds will still be elevated at 50 kts with
good downward omegas. Therefore, high winds could still be possible
during the day Friday, mainly across the wind prone areas.
Currently, a High Wind Watch is in place for the Arlington/Elk
Mountain area through Friday night. In-house guidance also suggests
the potential for high winds through this time period. Winds will
remain elevated through Saturday, leading into the next potential
high wind event on Sunday with the next shortwave. The wind event
during the day on Sunday looks brief, with likely only the wind
prone areas seeing any action. Winds aloft max out at 60 kts with
great downward omegas and steep 700 mb CAG-CPR height gradients. In-
house guidance is also starting to pick up on the high wind
potential on Sunday. After Sunday, winds looks to remain elevated
through the beginning of the week. Due to the elevated winds,
downsloping will help keep much of the long term on the warm side
with above average temperatures.

With the plethora of shortwaves expected in the long term,
precipitation chances look to be increasing, especially at the
beginning of next week. Luckily, because of the progressive nature
of these shortwaves, most precipitation will be light and short-
lived. Luckily, these shortwaves do not look to be very impactful,
however, we will continue to monitor for any changes.

Primary weather hazard will be periodic west to southwest wind gusts

and western Nebraska with skies expected to clear later this
afternoon and overnight. Stronger winds expected tomorrow late
morning through afternoon.
