.SHORT TERM...(Today through Wednesday)

One more relatively quiet and mild day today ahead of the next
Pacific storm system. Current observations across the area show
some high clouds over the eastern plains with gusty winds
continuing across the Bordeaux area. Do not anticipate these winds
to reach High Wind criteria with wind gusts hovering around 45 to
50 MPH at times. Winds near Bordeaux should ease later this
morning, briefly, before increasing tonight ahead of the Pacific
cold front. Based on an observed cold bias across portions of the
region, increased high temperatures today a few more degrees along
and east of the Interstate 25 corridor. A few locations may reach
55 to 60 degrees for daytime highs this afternoon.

Primary forecast concern will focus on the approaching Upper level
Pacific trough forecast to dig southeast late tonight. This trough
will influence the developing storm system near the border of
Arizona and southern Calif, which is expected to push east and
then lift northeast late tonight. Expect the southern system to
remain well south of Wyoming/Colorado, but a decent amount of
rainfall and some thunderstorm activity is expected across the
southern plains, which may cut off Gulf moisture from the primary
northern system forecast to impact the region late Tuesday and
into Wednesday. Cold front is forecast to push across the area on
Tuesday with a good chance of a hybrid wind event due to an
atypical Bora and ample surface to 650 mb boundary layer mixing.
Tricky wind forecast since there will be a relatively small window
of strong wind gusts and any cloud cover aloft may greatly limit
boundary layer mixing near the surface. However, MOS guidance and
in-house wind models are in good agreement along with plenty of
700mb subsidence. NBM 4.1 windgust probs and 90th percentile wind
speeds both show a good chance of strong winds along and just east
of the Laramie Range. Started off with a High Wind Watch for the
wind prone areas late tonight, and then extended the watch to
include the eastern high plains up to the Nebraska border towards
early Tuesday morning. Included the Cheyenne and Torrington areas
in this watch with a 3 to 6 hour window of 7 to 9 degree surface
to 700mb lapse rates late Tuesday morning through the afternoon
hours. Overall, not a perfect setup with some uncertainty, but
confidence is increasing that some areas will see sustained winds
of 40 mph with gusts over 60 mph as the front moves through the
area. Thought about adding the central and southern Nebraska
Panhandle to this Watch, but confidence is not as high for those
areas. Will continue to monitor the latest data today and tonight.

Winds concerns will diminish Tuesday evening into Tuesday night as
the main upper level trough digs south into the four corners
region. Models have trended towards forming a closed low near the
four corners area by early Wednesday morning along with a stronger
push of colder air southward. Models are in good agreement now,
showing a more southern track compared to 48 hours ago. Kept POP
high along and south of the North Platte River valley, but
continued to lower QPF and snowfall amounts across the whole area
through Wednesday. Ensemble forecasts are in very good agreement
and agree with all the primary forecast models, so trimmed back
snowfall amounts in the mountains and lower elevations. Expect 3
to 7 inches of snow for the mountains with 1 or 2 inches
everywhere else given weak forcing, 700mb Omega around 5 ub/s, and
some low level upslope flow. A few locations may see up to 3
inches, but impacts should be minimal. In addition, the storm
becomes less organized and becomes and open wave later on
Wednesday as it moves into the central plains. Did lower
Wednesday's high temperatures into the low to mid teens for most
of the area and blended forecast with the NBM 25th percentile as
700mb temperatures remain around -20c through the day.

Did not issue an Winter Weather Headlines yet with this event.
With expected northerly winds around 20 to 35 mph some blowing
and drifting snow is possible Wednesday which may require Winter
Weather Advisories. Overall confidence is pretty low at this time
due to the low snow accumulations.

.LONG TERM...(Wednesday night through Sunday)

As the trough pushes eastward, all long range models are showing a
large ridge axis stretching the length of the whole western CONUS
into Canada, developing and pushing eastward until the weekend. This
ridge axis will keep southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska panhandle in
near-normal temperatures and dry with chances for high winds
periodically. Currently, high wind chances are marginal at best with
the two best periods for high winds being Thursday afternoon and
early Saturday morning. Over the weekend, a more complicated
synoptic set up begins to develop, flattening the ridge and bringing
a closed low into the southwest CONUS, potentially advecting
moisture northward, even to Wyoming and western Nebraska. As this is
still 7 days out, there is little to no confidence in what the
impacts could be, but monitoring of the long term forecast will be
needed in the coming days.

will prevail. Mid to high level clouds will begin to move in during

morning for southern Nebraska panhandle terminals and southeast
Wyoming terminals. Wind gusts over 50 kts could be possible by
the afternoon hours on Tuesday.

A Pacific storm system will impact Wyoming Tuesday night through
Wednesday night, with much colder temperatures and the potential
for accumulating snow. Snow accumulations are expected to be
light, with up to 6 inches of snow possible for the mountains.
