.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure moves across Ontario today as a more potent low
pressure deepens over the southeastern United States. This low
then tracks up the East Coast through Monday night as a trough
moves over the region. High pressure returns to the area Tuesday
and persists into Friday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
Short wave/vort max moving over the west end of Lake Erie early
this afternoon. It continues to weaken as its energy is
transferred to a deepening area of low pressure off the East
Coast of the US. A cold front has moved into NW OH and will
continue to to move eastward through the evening. Steadiest of
the rain was located near the OH/PA border as of 18Z and will
continue to move east with the better jet energy. Looks like
there will be a period of scattered showers or drizzle between
the cold front and the rain exiting to the east. We do keep some
weak lift across the region overnight with some potential of
drizzle overnight. Still not sure how hard to hit this
possibility at this point.

The next strong upper level trough moves into the central Great
Lakes overnight with a good push of colder air in its wake. Of
note is the cold air aloft with this feature as it moves
overhead on Monday. This may make it difficult to time the
transition from rain to snow. There is potential for some
accumulating graupel before we transition over to all snow late
Monday afternoon into the evening. So initially the rain/snow
transition will be earliest in the higher terrain of the CWA
with all locations changing over to snow from west to east
through sunset. This sunset time period during the evening
commute may see some higher snow rates with impacts to travel
anticipated.

Temperatures will hold in the 40's this afternoon. We then cool
slightly in the wake of a cold front tonight with lows in the
mid to upper 30's. Very little diurnal range in temperatures is
expected Monday with increasing lift and dynamic cooling under
the cold core trough. It looks like highs Monday occur by
mid/late morning then slowly drop through the day. Highs may
range from the upper 30's to around 40.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
Upper level closed low will be overhead at the start of the period,
shifting to Central Pennsylvania by midday on Tuesday. The airmass
will have cooled sufficiently by Monday evening for precipitation type
to be all snow, except perhaps along the northeast Erie lakeshore
where the modified air off the lake may take just a little longer.
Temperatures at the start of the period at 850mb may still be near
-6 or -7C over NW Pennsylvania, but will cool to around -12 by 12Z
Tuesday, meaning snow ratios will increase from a 10 or 12 to 1
ratio initially to a 15 to 1 or higher. Snowfall is expected across
the eastern two thirds of the area on Monday evening as a trough
through 700mb swings southeast across Lake Erie, enhancing
precipitation. Some light accumulations of 1-4 inches is expected
outside of the primary snowbelt, extending from the Central
Highlands across the secondary snowbelt.

After 06Z we start to lose some of the larger scale forcing and
transition to more of a lake effect set-up. Northwest flow around
330 or 340 degrees favors upslope areas and a more inland extent of
snow with strong winds of 30-40 mph coming off Lake Erie. Several of
the high resolution models indicate support from Lake Huron that
will enhance snowfall. The challenge however is in placing this
enhancement with relatively poor agreement in location. The Regional
Canadian focuses a heavy band towards Lake and Geauga Counties while
the 3km NAM/GFS focuses it more towards Ashtabula County.
Uncertainty in placement of this band complicates the forecast as we
may be looking at more of a high end Advisory level event, except
with warning amounts possible if and where this heavier band of snow
sets up. Another cause for concern is the intrusion of drier air
that the NAM shows wrapping in from the northwest by almost 06Z. In
this scenario we may not see an organized band form across Lake
Huron, making lower snow amounts a possibility. Overall pattern
recognition suggests that we will likely need to continue raising
the snowfall forecast for at least a portion of the area as we dig
into mesoscale details over the next 24-36 hours and try to place
the locally higher amounts. The duration of the event will be
another limiting factor as nearly all models suggest moisture
stripping away from west to east between 8-14Z. Some shallow lift
will continue beyond this time but the better lift that had extended
through the dendritic growth zone will be rapidly diminishing. With
that said, stay tuned to the latest forecast as as Advisories and
possibly watch/warnings may be needed for a portion of the snowbelt
starting as early as Monday evening.

Skies will be clearing from west to east on Tuesday morning as the
sharp trough axis shifts east into Pennsylvania with a ridge quickly
building over the western Great Lakes. High pressure arrives at the
surface with low level flow backing and the airmass already starting
to moderate by late in the day. High temperatures on Tuesday will
range from near 30 in the east to mid 30s in the west. A gradual
warming trend continues through mid-week with breezy southwest winds
advecting warmer air in and temperatures near normal by
Wednesday.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Upper level ridge axis will be overhead on Thursday then start to
break down Friday into Saturday as shortwave energy crosses the
Plains. We are generally looking for temperatures that are slightly
above normal. Chances for rain showers return late Friday into
Saturday with some low level isentropic ascent enhanced by the
passing shortwave.

.AVIATION /18Z Sunday THROUGH Friday/...
Steady rain is near the OH/PA border as of 18Z. Much of the
region is experiencing MVFR conditions with the rain. The
exception being where the best downsloping southeasterly flow
is preventing it (KCLE and KERI). Expect to see winds swing
around to the south ahead of a cold front that moves across the
region through the evening. As of 18Z the cold front was located
over NW OH and should make steady progress to the OH/PA line.
There will be scattered showers/drizzle between the front and
the steady rain which will likely assist in lowering ceilings.

We then await an upper level trough that reaches the central
Great Lakes tonight then moves overhead on Monday. Rain
transitions to snow across the region. The colder air and snow
will assist with brining all locations down to IFR through
Monday afternoon. The higher terrain changing to snow earliest.

Winds from the south through the evening at 8 to 15 knots shift
to the west in the wake of a cold front. As a surface trough
crosses the region MOnday northwest winds increase significantly
in its wake. Gusts 25 to 35 knots may occur by Monday evening.

Outlook...Non-VFR conditions continue Monday night into Tuesday
in snow showers and low ceilings. Non-VFR will persist the
longest in lake effect snow showers across NE OH into NW PA.

.MARINE...
Low pressure has moved into the western Great Lakes this morning
with a tightening pressure gradient across the eastern Great Lakes.
Southeast winds in Pennsylvania remain brisk with speeds of 15-20
knots this morning and possibly as high as 25 knots, especially
before rain spreads in. The flow is offshore so waves will primarily
be 1 to 3 feet but kept the Small Craft Advisory in effect for the
Pennsylvania waters through 1 PM. There is some potential it may be
cancelled early if winds decrease with the arrival of showers.

Low pressure will cross the region through tonight, then merge with
strong low pressure tracking up the East Coast of the United States.
This system will reach New England on Monday with a strong cold
front crossing Lake Erie. Northwest winds increase to 30 knots on
the lake by Monday afternoon with the potential for a window of 35
knots gales on Monday night. A trough crosses the lake with
continued strong cold advection making it possible for a window of
gales across the central portion of Lake Erie. Issued a Gale Watch
from 4 PM Monday to 4 AM Monday with winds peaking during the late
evening. Waves of 7 to 10 feet are likely during this period. May
need Small Crafts starting as early as Monday morning as winds and
wave ramp up leading into the possible Gale and remaining behind it
through much of Tuesday. High pressure builds into the Ohio Valley
through the day on Tuesday and lingers into Thursday leading to
improving conditions with winds backing to southwesterly.
