At 1034 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located over Keller, moving north at 35 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without 
         shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage 
         to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree damage is 
         likely.

This tornadic thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of
Bryan and Chatham Counties, including the following locations... Port
Royal, Sweet Hill, Brisbon, Rabbit Hill, Oak Level, Dunham Marsh,
Daniel, and Georgetown.

This warning includes I-95 in Georgia between mile markers 84 and 99.

was located over Richmond Hill, moving northwest at 35 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

         to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree damage is 
         likely.

Locations impacted include: 
Pooler, Richmond Hill, and Burroughs. 

This warning includes I-95 in Georgia between mile markers 87 and 99.

.SYNOPSIS...
Hurricane Idalia is expected to bring significant impacts to
the area today into Thursday morning. High pressure will then
return late week and continue into the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Idalia is quickly approaching the Florida/Georgia border with
a few outer rainbands rotating up and through the region. No big
changes made to the going forecast at this point...except to
crank up pops to 100 percent for the next several hours.

Previous discussion...
Hurricane Idalia with a pressure down near 940 mb early on is
making landfall near the Big Bend area of Florida this morning,
before it lifts northeast across southeast Georgia late today,
and near or slightly inland of the South Carolina coast tonight.
The hurricane is moving between a mid level trough over the
northwest Gulf of Mexico and ridge over the Bahamas. The system
is expected to turn north-northeast and then move northeastward
to eastward on the southern side of a mid level trough that is
moving through the northeast states.

Based on the latest NHC forecast, the center of Idalia is
expected to move across the Altamaha River around 5-6 PM,
passing through the Savannah area around 8-9 PM, Beaufort and
Hilton Head 9-10 PM, and the Charleston region around 11 PM to
midnight. Since the initial strength of Idalia will be higher
than original forecast, it will still be a hurricane (cat 1) as
it passes into southeast Georgia, then slowly weakens to a
Tropical Storm as it moves into Charleston County.

Some forecast details could change dependent on the exact
progression of the system, but the larger scale threats will
generally be the same: flooding rain, storm surge, winds of
tropical storm force or hurricane strength, and tornadoes.

We maintain mention of heavy rainfall in the forecast, and have
also added isolated tornadoes. The tornado risk is based on STP
values that are 2-3 units and numerous updraft helicity swaths
that encompass the local counties. A Tornado Watch is already
in effect for southeast Georgia, and another Tornado Watch will
be issued for South Carolina later today, with the SPC forecast
showing all counties in a Slight Risk. In addition, strong and
gusty winds will also occur with rainbands that develop and move
on through from time to time, producing winds in excess of 40 or
50 mph.

Temperatures will be held down today due to the extensive and
thick cloud cover, and the steady rains developing.

As Idalia moves through South Carolina overnight, the impacts
will eventually taper off from south-southwest to north-
northeast through the night, and temperatures will drop to the
lower and middle 70s.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Thursday: The region will likely still be feeling some of the
effects of Idalia Thursday morning as it departs the forecast area
in the morning hours. Rainfall is expected to have already cleared
the areas across southeastern GA by Thursday morning. Rainfall
across southeastern SC is expected to taper off through the morning
hours, continuing to clear from southwest to northeast as the storm
departs the region. Winds could remain breezy on the backside of the
storm through the afternoon hours, with gusts around 20 mph
possible, especially across southeastern SC. With strong northerly
flow temperatures are expected to only reach into the upper 70s
across most of southeastern SC. Low to mid 80s are forecast across
southeastern GA. Overnight lows will dip into the mid 60s inland
with upper 60s closer to the coastline.

Friday and Saturday: High pressure will build into the region at the
surface while aloft heights rise as ridging builds into the area.
The resulting forecast will be quiet pleasant, with POPs no higher
than 15%. Temperatures will be several degrees below normal, with
highs only reaching into the low to mid 80s. Dew points only in the
low 60s will yield pleasant weather heading into the holiday
weekend, especially after the heat of the last month.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
High pressure will continue to build in at the surface through the
weekend and into early next week while ridging builds in aloft as
well. Subsidence from the building high pressure will yield POPs
generally less than 15%. Temperatures will be slightly below normal
Sunday, gradually warming into early next week.

.AVIATION /14Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
KCHS/KJZI/KSAV: Conditions will continue to deteriorate today
into tonight, as Idalia impacts the terminals with periods of
rain and showers, along with a chance of TSRA and stronger winds.
This will cause MVFR or potential even IFR weather through much
of the time. The heavier rains will occur today into this
evening, with occasional rainbands to swing through. These bands
will likely produce winds in excess of 35 or 45 kt.
Additionally, a 50-55 kt jet down around 2000 ft will move
through this afternoon and evening, resulting in several hours
of low level wind shear. Although the steady rains will diminish
tonight as Idalia moves to the northeast late, flight
restrictions will continue due to low ceilings.

Extended Aviation Outlook: KCHS/KJZI: Breezy conditions are
possible Thursday with N to NW winds gusting to around 20 mph.
Some low cigs and low vis are possible Thursday morning as some
remnant showers linger before Idalia moves out of the forecast
area. Thereafter, prevailing VFR.

KSAV: Prevailing VFR.

.MARINE...
Today and tonight: Extremely dangerous marine conditions will
overspread the coastal waters as Hurricane Idalia passes into
the Southeast States, with tropical storm force winds spreading
in from south to north with time. Gusty winds and isolated
waterspouts will also accompany any squalls and feeder bands
that impact the local waters. Mariners should remain in port.

Thursday: Idalia is forecast to move out of the marine waters by
Thursday afternoon, with conditions improving quickly after it's
departure. However, some lingering 6 ft seas will be possible,
especially across the Charleston County nearshore waters. Once the
tropical headlines are discontinued a Small Craft Advisory may be
needed. By the afternoon N to NW winds are forecast to remain around
15 to 20 knots with an occasional gust to 25 knots possible.

Friday through Monday: High pressure will build into the region
after Idalia pushes further offshore and out of the local marine
waters. N to NE winds, generally around 15 knots will prevail. Seas
will remain slightly elevated as swell from Idalia continues to
impact the local waters. 4 to 6 ft is forecast over the nearshore
waters, with 5 to 7 ft possible over the 20-60 nm offshore GA
waters. Small Craft Advisories will likely be needed through the
weekend.

Rip Currents: The approach of Idalia, swells from Franklin,
plus the enhanced astronomical influences due to the Perigean
Spring Tides (the full moon and the perigee) will yield a High
Risk of rip currents at all beaches today. An enhanced risk of
rip currents will persist through the remainder of the week as
longer period swell continues to impact the local beaches. In
addition, large breaking waves are expected to impact the
beaches.

Longer period swell from distant Hurricane Franklin, remnant
effects of Idalia, and enhanced astronomical influences due to
the full moon will yield a High Risk of rip currents across SC
beaches on Thursday. A Moderate Risk of rip currents is in
effect for the GA beaches.

.HYDROLOGY...
The latest forecast has been adjusted just a bit further east
from previous, showing an average of 4-8 inches across the
counties from Berkeley to Allendale and Hampton in South
Carolina, and then from Screven to Evans and Tattnall in
Georgia. Most other locations will receive 2-4 inch rain
amounts, which includes the Charleston, Beaufort and Savannah
regions. Any deviation in the path of Idalia could result in
amounts that are higher or lower. A Flood Watch remains in
effect into tonight, and Flash Flood Warnings are likely to be
issued. In addition, some of the heavier rainfall is expected
to occur this evening, coinciding with the high tide, which will
exacerbate the flash flooding threat. These rain amounts will
also impact area rivers, with one warning already in effect for
Burton's Ferry on the Savannah River.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Astronomical high tides remain elevated this week, with today's
evening high tides being of particular concern at both Charleston
Harbor and Fort Pulaski. Although we might even reach minor
coastal flooding in Charleston Harbor with the morning high
tide. The potential for coastal inundation will then be
exacerbated by the approach and passage of Idalia tonight. The
timing for Idalia moving in (or the peak surge) is also right at
the time of this evenings high tide. This will result
significant coastal flooding, especially from the Tybee and St.
Catherine's locations north to the Charleston, Sullivan's island
and Isle of Palms regions. Major coastal flooding will likely
occur in Charleston Harbor and potentially at Fort Pulaski. Both
sites could peak in the top 10 crests in recorded history.

After Idalia passes, tides will rapidly fall as offshore winds
commence. By Sunday, offshore winds will weaken with the potential
for more coastal flooding issues early next week.
