.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front will push through the region overnight and Saturday
along with some beneficial rain showers. The rain will gradually
taper off from west to east Saturday afternoon and evening...
allowing a return to mainly dry weather and pleasant temperatures
for Sunday. Fair weather and increasing warmth will then dominate
much if not all of next week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Regional radar show a swath of light to moderate rain showers
across southern Ontario approaching the eastern Great Lakes
region overnight. There have been a few lightning strikes in the
activity over northern Ohio and near Toronto over the last few
hours.

As this system's parent mid/upper level low digs southeastward
across the central Great Lakes overnight and across our area
Saturday...it will slowly push the surface wave/trailing cold front
to our western doorstep by 12z Saturday...then across our area
during the course of Saturday. As this occurs...deep-layer moisture
will increase across our region with PWATs climbing to between 1.25"
and 1.50"...with increasing forcing for ascent from the cold front
and strengthening height falls/DCVA aloft helping to lift this
moisture and generate fairly widespread moderate showers across
our region...with basin-average rainfall amounts generally from
two thirds of an inch to one inch expected. Given the extended
dry spell we've had of late...this rain will be rather beneficial.
With no lightning seen upstream of our area all day/evening and
instability overnight looking to be extremely limited at best...have
elected to pull the mention of any thunder from the grids.

As the cold front marches across our region Saturday the widespread
rain showers will push eastward. Expect much of the rainfall to be
over with by around noontime or shortly thereafter west of the
Genesee Valley. Cannot rule out a stray shower later in the
afternoon across the Niagara Frontier as the upper low/core of the
cold air aloft works overhead and lapse rates steepen, but the
deeper synoptic moisture will be displaced eastward with the surface
cold front.

While a weak ridge of high pressure noses towards SW NYS Saturday
afternoon and evening, moist cyclonic flow aloft near Lake Ontario
and our eastern zones will maintain shower chances through the
evening hours of Saturday...with these showers tapering down over
the North Country Saturday night.

As for temperatures...these will remain mild out ahead of the cold
front overnight, with lows only dipping into the mid to upper 50s.
On Saturday...the warmest temperatures will be across our eastern
zones where the later arrival of the cold front will allow for highs
in the mid 60s...with cooler readings in the upper 50s/low 60s found
back across far western New York. Finally...with some clearing
across WNY Saturday night temperatures will drop back into the
40s...with around 40F not out of the question for some of the colder
interior spots of the Southern Tier.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/...
Cold front will pull away from the New England coast Sunday, while
the axis of the parent upper trough will very slowly trail
southeastward across the Great Lakes through Monday. This may lead
to a few showers lingering up in the North Country into Sunday
evening, though moisture profiles are fairly dry and support widely
scattered coverage at best south of the St. Lawrence valley.
Likewise could be a couple of diurnal showers down near the NY/PA
border Monday afternoon as the trough axis drops thorugh, though
again paltry moisture would greatly limit coverage and intensity.

Otherwise...High pressure extending from Ontario Province through
the Mississippi River Valley will be building eastward, spanning the
entire northeast by Monday night. Other than the small chances for
showers mentioned previously, fair and dry weather will prevail to
end the weekend and kick off the new workweek.

Highs Sunday will average around climatological norms in the upper
60s to low 70s, a few degrees cooler on Monday outside of the
Southern Tier. Lows Sunday and Monday nights will feature a range of
40s, though as the surface high moves east of the region a weak
southerly return flow will boost temps down off the Chautauqua Ridge
into the 50s.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Quiet weather through much of the week as a broad mid-level ridge
spanning much of the central CONUS will slowly advance eastward,
maintaining a surface high pressure ridge along the Atlantic
shoreline. A shortwave pivoting around an upper trough over northern
Quebec will send a cold front southward towards the eastern Great
Lakes Wednesday...Though this feature will have a difficult time
producing any precip across our area as it runs up against the high
to the southeast. Will keep PoPs down in the 15-20% range for the
North Country.

With the surface ridge off the coast circulating warmer air into the
region, temperatures will get a boost during the week. Highs will
generally range in the 70s, with some readings in the 80s possible
across the interior valleys. Lows each night will average in the 50s
across the Lake Plains, with 40s elsewhere.

.AVIATION /06Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Current VFR conditions will deteriorate across the western and
north central NY terminals late tonight into Saturday morning.
A large swath of rain showers across southern Ontario is
approaching the region late tonight. Showers are associated with
a cold front that will track across the region Saturday. Light
to moderate rain showers will overspread the region starting
08-10z across KIAG, KBUF, KJHW, 11-14z across KROC and ART. The
threat for TS is low and not in the TAF. There have been
lightning strikes in northern Ohio and near Toronto but coverage
is very low and conditions are not favorable for additional TS
in WNY/NNY. Ceilings will lower to AOB 5kt feet at shower start
time and then fall to MVFR/IFR for a good portion of Saturday.
Visibility may fall to 2-4SM at times in heavier showers.

Rain showers will move west to east and end across the western
terminals by 18z Saturday and at KART by 00z Sunday. Ceilings
AOB 5k feet but above 010 feet will likely continue through
Saturday evening at all terminals.

Outlook...

Saturday night...Patchy MVFR with leftover showers diminishing east
of Lake Ontario.
Sunday...Mainly VFR with a chance of showers across the North
Country.
Monday through Wednesday...Mainly VFR.

.MARINE...
A moderate southerly flow will continue overnight out ahead of a
slowly approaching cold front. This will create choppy conditions
across northeastern Lake Ontario...though waves are expected to
remain below 4 feet.

The cold front will then cross the Lower Great Lakes during
Saturday. In its wake winds will veer to westerly and freshen...
which will in turn increase wave action to the point where Small
Craft Advisories will likely be needed from later Saturday through
Saturday night on Lake Erie, and Saturday night/Sunday morning on
Lake Ontario.

After that...surface high pressure will provide fair weather from
the rest of Sunday on through most if not all of the upcoming week.
