.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will continue to provide the region with fair dry
weather through Monday night. A rather sharp cold front will then
offer the opportunity for some showers Tuesday afternoon and night.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
High pressure centered over the Upper Great Lakes will retrograde to
the northern plains through Monday while remaining extended to the
East coast. In the process...this will push the axis of the fair
weather system across our region...thus assuring us of more fair dry
weather.

As a result of the subsequent clearing, calm winds, and chilly
airmass in place...we can anticipate good radiational cooling
through the pre-dawn hours. Temperatures will drop into the 30s
away from the lakes with frost once again anticipated for much
of the western Southern Tier and also east of Lake Ontario.
Frost Advisory remains in effect through the night for these
areas.

Monday will feature sun filled skies...and with weak warm air
advection...temperatures will rebound some 10 degrees higher than
those from today. Max temps will generally range from 65 to 70.

While a fairly sharp cold front will be dropping south from Quebec
Monday night...fair dry weather will persist for our forecast area.
Warm advection and SW flow ahead of the front will lead yield lows
in the upper 40s to low 50s across the Lake Plains, and low 40s
elsewhere.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...
A shortwave tracking across Ontario and Quebec Tuesday will send a
cold front through the Lower Lakes. The cold front will bring some
showers to the area, with the greatest potential ( > 60%) found east
of Lake Ontario closer to the supporting shortwave. Highs will range
from the lower 60s east of Lake Ontario to the mid 70s across the
Upper Genesee Valley.

The front will weaken as it pushes south of the area Tuesday night,
with showers becoming more scattered. Much cooler air will continue
to pour into the region behind the front overnight, falling to -4C
to -6C aloft. That said...temps will likely be found in the 30s by
daybreak Wednesday. For most areas 10 mph winds will mitigate the
risk for frost, however east of Lake Ontario surface temperatures
may drop below freezing even with the winds.

Wednesday...high pressure will provide dry but chilly conditions as
a Canadian sourced airmass settles in across the Lower Lakes. Winds
will also gradually relax over the course of the day. Otherwise...it
will likely be the coolest day of the week with highs peaking in the
40s to 50s.

Wednesday night...cold night expected with the potential for
widespread frost inland from the lakes. Winds will be light as
surface high pressure will be directly overhead across the region.
Clear skies will allow for excellent radiation cooling with temps
falling back into the 30s in many locations. Will need to keep an
eye on frost potential with the growing season having commenced.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Surface-based ridging draped across our region early Thursday
morning will gradually drift southeastward and off the mid-Atlantic
coastline through Thursday night...while gradually deamplifying
upper level ridging slides from the Upper Great Lakes to New
England. This will result in continued fair dry weather...with the
developing return flow around the surface high also helping temps to
recover into the 60s after a rather chilly/frosty start to Thursday
morning. Thursday night will then be considerably milder than the
preceding night as low-level southerly flow strengthens across our
area out ahead of the next system...and allows for lows mainly in
the upper 40s to lower 50s.

Late in the week and next weekend the guidance suite still generally
suggests that a deamplifying upper level trough will dig across the
Upper Great Lakes and then New York State...while helping to push an
attendant modest surface low/potentially wavy cold front across our
region. This being said...this system also continues to trend slower
overall...with the spread in its timing also having increased
notably compared to what was seen 24 hours ago...which leads to
increasing uncertainty/decreased forecast confidence as we head
through next weekend.

Given the above slowing trend...at this point Friday now looks to be
more dry than wet...with a general likelihood of showers then
following for Friday night and Saturday given the favorable moisture
return and lift along the front flank of this system as it eases
into our region. After that...have just indicated gradually
decreasing PoPs for the rest of the weekend for now due to the
increased forecast uncertainty. As for temps...these should rebound
nicely into the lower to mid 70s out ahead of this system on
Friday...before settling back into the 60s over the weekend.

.AVIATION /06Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Broad high pressure moving from the Upper Great Lakes to the
northern Plains will extend across our region, guaranteeing fair VFR
weather through the 06z TAF cycle.

Southwest winds will increase Monday afternoon. The higher gusts
will be found northeast of Lake Ontario, with gusts around 25kts
expected across KART.

Outlook...

Tuesday...MVFR/VFR with a chance of showers in the afternoon into
Tuesday night.
Wednesday and Thursday...VFR.
Friday...VFR to MVFR with scattered/frequent showers.

.MARINE...
High pressure centered over the Upper Great Lakes/Mississippi valley
will retrograde to the west to the northern plains overnight through
Monday while extending to the east coast. This will keep a weak sfc
pressure gradient over the Lower Great lakes with light to gentle
breezes tonight and then moderate to occasionally fresh (eastern Lk
Ont) breezes on Monday. While negligible waves will accompany these
winds...it could get choppy on the east end of Lake Ontario (north
of Mexico Bay) late in the day. In fact...its not out of the
question that a SCA would be needed for this area.

Moderate west to southwest breezes are then expected on both lakes
Monday night...as a cold front will be approaching from Quebec.
Again...a SCA is not out of the question for eastern Lk Ontario
during this period.
