.SYNOPSIS...
A warm front will cross the area into this afternoon. Light snow
will continue to shift across the region from west to east with very
minor accumulations. A weak cold front will cross the area on Sunday
bringing a few snow showers, mainly across the North Country. Low
pressure will then move into the area late Monday through Tuesday
with a mix of rain and wet snow.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
A warm front will cross the area into this afternoon bringing a
period of light snow from west to east. Thus strongest low-level
lift ahead of the front will keep the heaviest snow across the
Southern Tier this morning. Coverage will peak over western NY
through noon and this afternoon east of Lake Ontario. QPF amounts
will be on the light side but snow ratios will be high, on the order
of 18:1 or higher. This will result in spots seeing a fluffy
accumulation near 2" but most will see well under that amount.
Otherwise...highs today will reach the 20s in most locations later
in the afternoon after the cold start, with mid 30s near the PA
state line and teens North Country.

Weak surface ridge will build in over the region tonight and then
provide mainly dry weather. A weak low near Lake Superior will
quickly race east, crossing the Ottawa Valley by early Sunday
afternoon pushing a cold front across the area. Greatest coverage of
snow showers will stay north of St. Lawrence Valley and southeast
into northern New England where steeper and low-level lapse rates
and deeper moisture closer to the shortwave causing the low and
ahead of the cold front will reside. Best chance for snow showers
for our area, maybe mixing with rain, will be east of Lake Ontario
settling southeast of Lake Ontario later in the afternoon. Initially
the snow showers will be supported by upslope sw to nw flow, but
eventually it becomes just cold enough for a lake response mainly
southern Tug Hill drifting across Oswego county as flow becomes
northwest. Little of the DGZ is within the lake convective layer and
near sfc temps will be warmer, so only expecting light snow amounts
later Sunday in these areas of maybe an inch.

Highs will pop up into the 40s Finger Lakes/Southern Tier with near
40 for rest of western and central NY. Highs east of Lake Ontario
will reside in the low to mid 30s. Westerly winds will be breezy on
Sunday over much of the region with gusts to 35 mph.

Sunday night will continue to feature the weak lake response
southeast of Lake Ontario early on. Eventually mid-level ridging
ahead of large system approaching from the central CONUS will result
in warming temps aloft and subsidence, so the light lake effect will
end later evening or early overnight. Otherwise, will be a night
with increasing high clouds from the southwest ahead of the plains
system. Lows will mainly reside in the 20s with teens east of Lake
Ontario.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...

A mature...stacked cyclone over the mid western states will approach
our region on Monday. A 45-50kt low level jet in advance of the
filling sub 980mb low will impinge upon an associated warm front
that will extend across Ohio to western Pennsylvania. The ensuing
lift over a tightening H925-70 baroclinic zone will lead to a wet
sloppy day across the western counties of New York...as an expanding
shield of steady pcpn will make its way out of Ohio and western
Pennsylvania. While the pcpn will likely start as a coating of
wet snow...the warm advection will prompt the snow to change to a
cold rain from southwest to northeast. A quarter to a half inch of
rain/melted wet snow can be expected over the western counties on
Monday...while the leading edge of the mixed pcpn will just make it
to the Eastern Lake Ontario region towards nightfall.

The inclement conditions could be accompanied by some strong
downslope winds in the vcnty of the Chautauqua ridge late Monday and
Monday evening...but this risk may be tempered/held in check by the
steady pcpn that would help to keep the stronger winds (see low
level jet discussion above) from mixing to the sfc.

The sfc low will continue to weaken Monday night...as it will slowly
cross the Lower Great Lakes. Meanwhile...a secondary low within the
Miller B cyclogenetic event will be in the process of becoming
organized off the New Jersey coast. Fairly strong frontogenetic lift
ahead of the sfc occlusion (linking the two areas of low pressure)
will support widespread mixed precipitation during the first half of
MOnday night...with rain being the primary p-type over the western
counties and accumulating wet snow forecast for sites east of Lake
Ontario. As we push through the overnight...the occlusion will push
east along with the deepest lift. This should allow the steadier
rain over the western counties to start to taper off. Snowfall east
of Lake Ontario Monday night should generally range from 3 to 7
inches...with the higher amounts being found on the Tug Hill. From
this vantage point...the most likely scenario would include winter
weather advisories for that area.

A broad but low amplitude ridge crossing the Upper Great Lakes on
Tuesday will help to push the complex storm system out of our
region...but not before colder air will change the pcpn to a little
wet snow before ending. Snow accumulations should range from a
coating over the western counties to another inch or two east of
Lake Ontario. Temperatures on Tuesday will be nearly steady between
35 and 40.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Ridging at the surface and aloft on Wednesday will slide eastward
into western New England...while the next mid-level trough and its
attendant surface low develops eastward across the western/central
Great Lakes. This should result in a quiet and mainly dry day for
our area...though cannot rule out a shower or two associated with
the next system during the afternoon.

After that...precipitation chances should return for the rest of the
period as the aforementioned low pressure system moves east and
crosses our region. With the various guidance packages continuing to
exhibit a large degree of variance in the timing and track of this
system...for now have kept PoPs confined to the chance range with a
general mix of rain and snow indicated in the forecast. Otherwise
temperatures should continue to average out above normal through
Thursday...before retreating closer to normal by Friday.

.AVIATION /15Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
A warm front will cross the area through this afternoon. A 3-4 hr
period of light snow will spread from western NY to the eastern Lake
Ontario region this afternoon. Mainly MVFR CIGS and IFR VSBY
expected during the snow. After the snow tapers off, flight
conditions will gradually improve to VFR this evening and into
tonight.

Outlook...

Sunday...Mainly VFR.
Monday...Mainly VFR in the morning, then MVFR/IFR developing later
in the afternoon with the arrival of rain and snow.
Tuesday...Areas of MVFR/IFR in rain/snow early, improving in the
afternoon.
Wednesday...Mainly VFR.
Thursday...MVFR to VFR. Chance of rain and snow showers.

Relatively light winds with a sfc ridge drifting across
continues through most of tonight. Low pressure tracking to the
north of the region on Sunday will produce a period of moderate
to strong southwest to west winds. More Small Craft Advisories
will be needed over much of the waters.
