.SYNOPSIS...
Increasing cloud cover late today into Monday. Then a high
impact, long duration multi- facet coastal storm likely impacts
the region Monday night into Wednesday morning, with heavy wet
snow, especially for the high elevations, strong winds and
possibly coastal flooding. Exact details still need to be
determined. Drier weather returns Thursday into Friday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...
Highlights
* Dry and quiet weather tonight with increasing cloud cover.
* Should be dry for much of the region for the first half of
Monday, but will have increasing chances of rain and higher
terrain snow late.
A ridge axis will be situated over New England this evening,
while a trough is over the western Great Lakes. The ridge builds
into the Gulf of Maine/Nova Scotia late tonight. The trough will
dig into the central Great Lakes by early Monday. The trough
will begin lifting into the OH Valley/eastern Great Lakes by
late Monday. A weak high will loosen its grip on our region
tonight and tomorrow as the it builds over Nova Scotia. A broad
low will be over the eastern Great Lakes for much of Monday,
while a secondary low develops near the Carolinas/just offshore.
The secondary low will begin lifting toward us late on Monday.
No major concerns in this forecast period other than timing
the increasing chances of precipitation on Monday. Did knock
back chances a bit from the previous forecast as guidance is
trending just a touch slower with the onset. So, leaned toward
the latest HREF guidance. Utilized the NERFC QPF as it looks
quite reasonable. At this point ptypes at onset are looking
like rain for much of the region other than the higher terrain
of the Berkshires/Worcester Hills. Little if any snowfall
accumulation is expected due to the light precip rates and
marginal temperatures through the day Monday.
Will see increasing ESE to SE winds as the pressure gradient
tightens ahead of the incoming system. Could see some 20-30 mph
wind gusts across the southern coastline.

Tonight...
Surface high pres over the Maritimes with ridging extending south
into New Eng will maintain dry weather through the night. However,
lower clouds will increase in coverage as low level easterly flow
brings abundant low level moisture. Deeper moisture remains to the
west so kept western MA dry tonight. Lows range from the upper 20s
to mid 30s.
Monday...
High amplitude trough/mid level low moves through the Gt Lakes as
secondary low moves off the mid Atlc coast. Deep layer moisture
begins to move in from the west ahead of the mid level trough, while
Maritimes ridge persists. The main focus for occasional light precip
will be across western MA/CT closest to best moisture and lift.
Ptype will be mostly rain, but snow across the Berkshires where
locally an inch or 2 is possible. Precip chances will decrease
further E as it runs into drier air and eastern MA may remain dry
through the day. Highs will range from the mid/upper 30s interior
high terrain to mid 40s in the coastal plain. Gusty E winds will
develop in the afternoon across the Cape/Islands.

Highlights...
* Drier weather returns Thursday into Friday, then unsettled weather
possible Fri night into Saturday
Given the impacts expected with the upcoming storm largely
utilized the NBM through the extended. Will have a period of
drier weather late in the week in wake of the exiting system.
Next shot for more widespread precipitation and perhaps gusty
winds comes late Friday into Saturday. Will resolve these
details as the week progresses. At this point appearing like an
all rain event with above normal temps anticipated.

shifting to the E at 5-10 kts.

MVFR ceilings expanding to the rest of southern New England as
the night progresses. Localized IFR possible across the higher
terrain. Winds becoming light and variable.
Monday...Moderate confidence.
Generally MVFR conditions, but we may improve to a period of VFR
across eastern MA during the afternoon. Light rain gradually
spreading in from SW to NE. Ptype is mostly snow across the
higher terrain. Little if any snowfall accumulation expected on
runways during this period. E winds shifting to the ESE at 10-15
kts. Gusts of 20-25 kts along the south coast late.
