.SYNOPSIS...
Periods of light to moderate rain continue through Monday
morning, then becoming more showery in the afternoon before
tapering Monday evening. Dry and cool weather arrives Monday
night into Tuesday, along with ample sunshine. Rain and snow
showers possible Wednesday with the best chance for appreciable
rain across the Cape and Islands. Chilly temperatures peak
Wednesday and Wednesday night before high pressure builds in to
wrap up the work week and start the weekend. Temperatures to
return to near or even above normal by Saturday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...

333 AM Update:

* More wet weather and cool temps today

Frontal wave organizing over PA during the predawn hours tracks
east along the south coast of New England. Periods of rain will
continue through the morning across CT/RI/MA. Strengthening low
level jet may yield periods of moderate rain during the morning
commute across CT/RI and southeast MA. Already seeing this band
develop over eastern PA.  As the low and mid level trough move
east, rain will taper off later this afternoon. Therefore, a
wetter morning than afternoon. Additional rainfall today on the
order of 0.25 to 0.50 inches.

Given the low track along the south coast, the warm sector will
be suppressed to the south coast and islands, where temps may
climb to 55-60. Elsewhere, east winds becoming north will trap
low level cool air across the region today, limiting highs to
the upper 40s across northwest MA, and 50s elsewhere. Hence a
cool day. Given the shallow cold air, we derived today's max
temps from the cooler hi res guidance, specifically the 00z
HREF. The moist onshore flow combined with proximity to the
frontal boundary, will yield areas of fog this morning.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM TUESDAY/...

333 AM update...

* Dry weather returns but cooler than normal temps

Monday night...

Frontal wave and mid level trough move offshore during the
evening, with post frontal airmass overspreading the region.
Expect decreasing cloudiness tonight and drier air advecting
across the area. Modest CAA will result in temps falling into
the 30s and it will feel colder given a brisk NW wind 10-20 mph,
with gusts up to 25-30 mph across Cape Cod and the Islands given
CAA streaming over SSTs in the mu50s. Winds will diminish late,
but enough of a NW breeze to preclude widespread frost.
Therefore, we held off on frost headlines.

Tuesday...

Sunshine returns as short wave ridging advects across the area
and provides subsidence/dry weather. Chilly airmass in place
over the area, with 850 mb temps around -5C and +1C at 925 mb.
Model soundings indicate mixing up to about 850 mb, which will
support highs around 50, upper 40s high terrain. These temps are
up to 10 degs cooler than normal. Although mostly sunny
conditions and light winds will help take the edge off the cool
temps.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...

333 AM update...

Key Points...

- Cold air will peak on Wednesday before a gradual warming trend
develops through the weekend

- Coastal low becoming increasing less impactful to southern New
England Wednesday, some light showers/snow showers possible across
the interior

As with previous updates, continue to monitor a shortwave trough
inbound from the mid-west on Wednesday, which looks to remain
positively tilted, loosing amplification as it crosses southern New
England. The progressive nature of this shortwave will help to
suppress a coastal low to our southeast; with both deterministic and
ensemble guidance suggesting that the precipitation shield
associated with the low may only extend as far northwest as I-95,
leaving much of southern New England dry during the day. The only
exception to this across the interior would be light rain and snow,
showers associated with the shortwave itself, but ample dry air
through the column, both at the surface and around 10k ft, will
limit precipitation potential. PWATs max out at just about a half
inch across the outer Cape, and around a quarter inch across the
interior. Maintained slight chance PoPs across all areas, with a
gradient towards likely on the outer Cape and Islands, with perhaps
just a quarter to a half inch of rain, highest on Nantucket, over a
24 hour period ending Thursday morning.

With the exception of the Canadian Ensemble, which far and away
undercuts temperatures Wednesday compared to the EPS/GEFS and the
operational Canadian, all guidance has all but nixed the potential
for accumulating snow, hinting at perhaps a tenth of an inch across
the high terrain. Certainly can't rule out some flakes flying for
the interior.

Now, while we aren't expecting much, if anything, by way of
accumulating snow, cold temperatures will be the main concern for
the period. The coldest temperatures of the season thus far can be
expected Wed night (850mb temperatures bottom out around -7C around
12Z Thursday), with widespread lows in the 20s; low 30s across the
coastal plain. The good news is high pressure/zonal upper level flow
builds in behind the departing trough for Thursday, acting as the
beginning of a warming trend through the end of the Weekend.
Temperatures will warm a bit each day, returning to near or even
slightly above normal by Saturday and Sunday. Expecting dry
conditions to accompany this warming trend.

widespread IFR and LIFR toward 12z across the high terrain, in
patchy fog and periods of rain.

Monday afternoon...steady rain in the morning becomes more
showery in the afternoon along with IFR trending upward to MVFR
toward 00z, except trending upward to VFR across CT. Winds
becoming N-NW.

Monday night...gusty NW winds 15-20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt
across Cape Cod and the Islands. VFR and dry runways.

Tuesday...VFR and dry weather continues. Light NNW winds except
up to 20 kt in the morning across Cape Cod and the Islands. Then
winds becoming light N-NE in the afternoon.

KBOS Terminal...high confidence in trends, some uncertainty in
exact details of timing. IFR with low probability of brief LIFR
in periods of rain and fog this morning, becoming more showery
this afternoon. Trending to MVFR toward the late day/evening
push. East winds this morning becoming NW this afternoon and
evening.

KBDL Terminal...High Confidence. LIFR/IFR this morning in fog
and periods of rain. Rain becomes more showery this afternoon
with conditions lifting to MVFR and possibly VFR toward 00z.
North winds this morning trending NW this afternoon.
