  school district buses. Vehicles should be moved from these areas.

  Lawrence, the river inundates Schofield Park and spreads onto 
  Saratoga Street. Floodwaters reach onto Willow Street as well as 
  nearby low lying buildings in the vicinity of Willow and Myrtle 
  streets. In addition, floodwaters begin to inundate Spruce Street 
  around the bridge.

.SYNOPSIS...

A mixture of clouds and sunshine today with mainly dry weather
outside of a few showers across the Cape/Islands early this
morning and perhaps a brief spot shower this afternoon. A
prolonged period of dry weather sets up from Wednesday through
this weekend with fairly seasonable temperatures. Those hoping
for a white Christmas will need to wait for another chance in
2024, with little to no precipitation expected through the
weekend.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...

335 AM Update...

* A few showers into mid-morning across the Cape/Islands
* Mixture of clouds & sun today with highs well into the 40s

The powerful storm that impacted the region yesterday was
already in northern Quebec early this morning and continuing to
race northward. However...deep mid level trough and its
associated cold pool aloft was still to our west. There was
enough meridional flow ahead of this deep trough for one last
batch of showers to briefly impact the Cape/Islands through mid-
morning.

Otherwise....the upper level energy and its associated cold
pool aloft to our west will cross the region today. This should
result in a mixture of clouds and sunshine with a period of
mostly cloudy skies this afternoon across the interior. Lack of
low level moisture/forcing will result in generally dry weather
today...but enough shortwave energy exists for a brief spot
shower or even a high terrain rain/wet snow shower this
afternoon.

High temps this afternoon should reach the lower to middle 40s
across the interior and middle to upper 40s across eastern New
England. These temps are much cooler than the record highs set
yesterday...but still about 5 degrees above normal for this time
of year. A bit of a westerly breeze expected this afternoon
with gusts on the order of 15 to 25 mph.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM WEDNESDAY/...

Key Points...

* Dry/Seasonably Chilly tonight with lows mainly in the 20s
* Sunny Wed with highs in the lower-middle 40s

Details...

Tonight...

A ridge of high pressure builds in from the west tonight. This
should result in diminishing winds and skies becoming mostly
clear. We may see a period of ocean effect clouds develop late
across the Cape/Nantucket with chilly N-NW flow...but
nothing more than that. Overnight low temps should be fairly
seasonable for this time of year...mainly in the 20s. We may see
a few upper teens in the normally coldest outlying locations in
western MA.

Wednesday...

A ridge of high pressure to the west of our region will result
in sunny skies Wednesday. High temperatures should top off
mainly in the lower to middle 40s with generally light northwest
winds.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...

Highlights

* Quiet and dry conditions

* Near to below normal temperatures

* Breezy through Friday esspically over the waters.

A strong 1035mb high begins to build north from the mid-Atlantic
states and merge with a 1045mb high dropping out of Ontario. This
will lead to a prolonged stretch of quiet and dry weather for
southern New England. As the surface highs move towards the region,
the pressure gradient will remain tight being sandwiched between the
remnants of Mondays low pressure system stalling offshore and even
intensifying a bit. What this will lead to is breezy conditions
lasting through Friday. Gusts inland wont be anywhere as strong as
we saw Monday topping out at 20-30mph on Thursday. Over the waters
and near the shores, Gale force gusts are possible with the latest
NBM showing 10-40% chance for gusts of 40mph mainly Thursday.
Starting Friday night, the center of the high pressure moves
overhead allowing the pressure gradient to relax and winds to calm
down. With little to no wind Friday night and beyond, overnight lows
likely begin to drop into the mid to low teens away from the coasts
with clear skies. Used a blend of the MOS guidance and NBM for
overnight lows Friday night and beyond. As for highs, there will be
a downward trend through Friday and Saturday only topping out in the
mid to upper 30s. Next chance for precipitation could come Sunday
with the GFS showing a weakening low exiting the Great Lakes,
however, the GFS appears to be an outlier at this time with
ensembles showing around a 10-20% chance for accumulating precip.

Next Week...

The pattern becomes unsettled again mid to late next week with
another inside runner possible. However, uncertainty is very high at
this range with disagreement among deterministic guidance and large
spread in the ensembles.

Nantucket until mid-morning. Otherwise...SW winds becoming WNW
at 10 to 15 knots with a few afternoon gusts of 20 knots &
