Showers late tonight into early Monday morning with a coastal
storm passing well to the south of New England. Much warmer
conditions continue through the upcoming week. Mainly dry
condition with chance of rain Tuesday night, and again late
week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
1245 AM update...

Rain area lifting NE from the ocean south of New Eng in
response to amplifying upstream trough. Occasional showers will
impact Nantucket through the early morning with back edge
possibly reaching portions of Cape Cod 09-12z. Rest of SNE
remains dry overnight. Stratus and fog expected to develop over
the Islands and portions of the Cape toward daybreak. Wide
range of temps from the mid/upper 20s portions of CT valley to
the low/mid 40s SE MA and Cape/Islands. Temps in the interior
may drop further with breaks in the cloud cover, but will remain
steady across SE New Eng.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM TUESDAY/...
Highlights...

* A few showers linger early, otherwise a dry day with increasing
  north/northeast winds.

Monday into Monday night: A few showers linger across Cape Cod and
Nantucket during the morning commute, otherwise a dry day across
southern New England. Otherwise, some mid/high clouds move through
during the morning with the mid level trough passage, followed by
increasing sunshine in the afternoon. Winds are north/northeast as
the region is placed between a building surface high to our west and
a surface low pressure system to our east. Winds start out light and
trend between 25 and 35 mph by late afternoon/early evening.

Mild temperatures once again, afternoon highs reach 45 to 50 degrees
and cooler across the higher terrain, generally 38 to 43 degrees
there. Monday night into early Tuesday more seasonable with lows in
the upper teens to middle teens. Slightly warmer Cape Cod and
Islands, around 30-35F.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Highlights...

* Much warmer conditions continue through next week.

* Mostly dry with rain chances Tuesday night, and again late next
  week.

Details...

Mid level flow looks a little wavy over the CONUS next week.
Expecting several smaller mid level longwave troughs to pass our
region through mid week, which eventually sets the stage for a
strong surge of warmer air towards the end of next week.
Meanwhile, colder air should develop east of the rockies over
the central USA. Then it becomes an issue of timing and how much
the airmass will moderate as it heads our way towards next
weekend. Overall, expecting above normal temperatures through
this portion of the forecast, especially for the overnight low
temperatures.

Precipitation-wise, rainfall will be the favored type. Still
looking at late Tuesday into Tuesday night as an opportunity,
when a shortwave and weak cold front move across southern New
England. Late next week looks complicated. One low pressure
should move through the Great Lakes into northern New England
late Thursday into Friday, dragging its associated front through
our region. A second low pressure may then develop along the
first cold front off the NJ/DE coast sometime Saturday. Am not
expecting it to be raining the entire time Thursday into
Saturday, but do not have enough confidence to pinpoint when
those breaks might be at this juncture.

MVFR/IFR conditions developing Cape/Islands 09-12z with stratus
and fog and areas of -RA. VFR elsewhere.

IFR stratus and fog may linger across the outer Cape and
especially ACK into early afternoon with showers exiting ACK by
midday. Otherwise, VFR. Winds becoming this morning, increasing
this afternoon with 20-25 kt gusts developing and up to 30 kt
Cape/Islands.

Tonight... High confidence.

Mainly VFR, but areas of MVFR cigs may develop over
Cape/Islands. N wind gusts 25 kt near the coast but up to 35 kt
Cape/Islands. Winds diminishing overnight.

Tuesday... High confidence.

VFR, but may see some MVFR cigs Cape/Islands in the morning. N
wind gusts to 25 kt Cape/Islands diminishing by midday. Winds
