.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure moves to the north this morning followed by dry
and blustery conditions. Continued blustery and dry but
unseasonably chilly Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures then
gradually modify by late in the week. Rain chances increase
Friday night before high pressure returns midweekend. Another
chance for precipitation appears to be on the horizon to round
out next weekend.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...

6:30 AM Update...

Rapid clearing behind low pressure departing for the Gulf of
Maine is well underway with trailing cold front, defined by a
weak fine line, is already off the Massachusetts coastline.
Winds are solidly west behind this front and will continue to
gust to 20-25kt through the day thanks to strong cold air
advection. Daytime high temps have already been achieved in many
areas with temps dropping back into the 30s and 40s postfrontal.
Notably, temps have fallen 6F at Norwood in just an hour.

Previous Update...

Colder cloud tops have already lifted into northern New Eng
with dry slot advancing north across SNE. PWATs drop sharply
through 12z and rain will end from SW to NE from 3 to 6 AM
followed by dry conditions.

Core of the low level jet moves along the south coast and
Cape/Islands through 08z lifting north along the eastern MA
coast to Cape Ann 08-10z. Strong pressure falls and temps in the
mid 50s will weaken the inversion to support a brief period of
gusts to 45-55 mph, possibly up to 60 mph over Cape Ann as the
low level jet strengthens. Winds will shift to SW with gusts
diminishing by 10-12z.

Low pres will move to the north by 12z and track across Maine and
into the Maritimes this afternoon. Much drier air moves in today
with PWATs dropping below 0.25" leading to partly to mostly sunny
skies but diurnal strato-cu will develop. Blustery west winds
expected in the afternoon with gusts 20-30 mph at times with
deepening boundary layer. Highs will be in the 50s across RI and
eastern MA and 40s interior, with falling temps this afternoon as
cold advection increases.

Storm surge may reach 4 ft at Providence but this is occurring now
and will drop quickly as high tide approaches around 740 AM which
will mitigate coastal flood concerns. Some minor splashover is
possible along Narragansett Bay around the time of high tide.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM TUESDAY/...
Deep mid level trough across the Gt Lakes settles over New
England on Tue with 500 mb temps falling to -38C. Modest cold
advection will result in temps dropping into the 20s tonight
with highs Tue mostly in the 30s. Mainly dry conditions tonight
and Tue, but a few lake effect snow showers may spill into the
Berkshires on Tue. Ocean effect snow/rain showers will remain
mostly offshore given westerly flow but a few showers may impact
Nantucket. Deep well mixed boundary layer will support blustery
conditions Tue with gusts 20-30 mph in the afternoon.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Key Points...

* Below normal temperatures persist into Wednesday before a warming
  trend develops to round out the work week

* Dry through mid-day Friday, a few chances for precipitation to
  bookend the weekend

Shortwave that brings unseasonably cold temperatures to southern New
England Tuesday finally begins to shift to the east on Wednesday.
While there won't be immediate relief regarding high temperatures,
with highs in the low to mid 30s, emerging southwest flow will be
considerably lighter compared to Tuesday by some ten to fifteen
knots.

Aforementioned southwest flow and developing zonal to weak mid level
ridging Thursday will help to advect much more seasonable air into
the region with highs climbing five to ten degrees each day,
eventually topping out in the low to upper 50s by Friday afternoon.

Abundant sunshine present Wednesday and Thursday will diminish for
Friday as weak shortwave and resulting low pressure pushes east from
the Great Lakes. As mentioned by the previous forecaster, there
remains some inconsistency in the timing of precipitation Friday
evening, but both the GFS/ECWMF and their respective ensembles are
beginning to hone in on quick hitting overnight rainmaker between
with impacts in the range of 21Z Friday to 12Z Saturday. Warm
antecedent airmass and sufficiently mild temperatures overnight
will result in all rain for southern New England. An early look at
precipitation potential yields 50th percentile 24hour QPF in the 0.1-
0.25" range with low (10-30%) probabilities of 0.5" suppressed south
and east of the I-95 corridor.

Second more potent shortwave looks to dive into southern New England
early next week with low pressure emerging off the mid Atlantic
coast ahead of it late Sunday evening or early Monday morning. There
remains considerable uncertainty regarding the position and timing
of this low, so while there is somewhat moderate confidence in it's
potential to exist, it is much too early to evaluate impacts.

VFR. West winds 5-15 kt tonight with 20-25 kt gusts developing
Tue.

KBOS Terminal...High confidence in trends. VFR, winds varying
from WSW to WNW through the day gusting to 20-25kt give strong
cold air advection.

KBDL Terminal...High confidence in trends. VFR with winds
gusting 20-25kt today. Winds subside slightly to near 10-15kt
this evening but will not decouple.
