.SYNOPSIS...
Widespread heavy rainfall impacts southern New England this
evening and early tonight; a few embedded thunderstorms are
possible. Localized poor drainage and urban flooding is
possible. Drier and milder weather returns Monday, then cooler
and unsettled conditions follow for the rest of the work week
with showers at times as low pressure aloft moves from the Great
Lakes into New England. There are signs of a change to a drier
and milder weather by next weekend.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
2 AM update...

Heavy showers rapidly lifting to the north of SNE as dry slot
approaches from the south. Still a band of heavy showers and a
few t-storms moving north from Cape Cod and will impact the
north shore during the next hour. Otherwise, just scattered
showers lifting north across SNE early this morning, which will
end 09-12z from S to N. Winds will be shifting to S, then SW and
there may be a brief period of locally dense fog before the wind
shift to SW. Gusty winds will continue along the coast but the
max winds have shifted to the north into the Gulf of Maine

Previous discussion...

Potent shortwave lifting north from NJ coast. Heaviest rainfall
will occur through 06z as the shortwave moves into the region.
Concentration of lightning just to the north of the shortwave so
a few t-storms possible through midnight. Rain tapers off from
S to N after 06z as dry slot moves in.

Peak of the wind will impact the north shore through midnight
as the low level jet strengthens before lifting north into the
Gulf of Maine. A few gusts to 40-45 mph possible.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH 6 PM TUESDAY/...
Rapid clearing continues through about 14-15Z tomorrow morning.
Abundant sunshine will reign over much of the area, with the
exception being the far western regions of our Massachusetts and
Connecticut as a cold pool aloft allows some cumulus to develop by
late morning and early afternoon. Cold pool convection should be
strong enough to allow scattered, low impact spritzes of rain to
develop, amounting to generally less than 0.05 of QPF.

Strong SW flow will develop by tomorrow morning as the inversion
finally mixes out. With mixing to about 800mb, anticipating that the
jet of 30-40kt will mix gusts of 25-30 kt to the surface through
lunchtime across SE MA and the Cape and Islands. Less gusty, but
still breezy winds of 15-25kt can be expected north and west of I-
95. Winds will gradually diminish towards 20kt by late afternoon as
the jet pulls to our east.

Mainly clear and dry conditions last into the first half of Monday
night before low clouds and the chance for more spotty showers
develops before sunrise Tuesday as our next shortwave pivots around
the strong trough and associated mid level low centered over the
Great Lakes. This low will prove quite troublesome after Monday for
those looking for a Springtime warm up.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Highlights...

* Unsettled with showers at times Tue through Fri, especially Tue/Wed
* Cool Tue through Fri with highs mainly in the 50s...coolest Thu
* Trending Drier & milder next weekend...especially by Sunday

Details...

Tuesday and Wednesday...

Deep closed upper level low/cold pool aloft  will move east across
our region Tue into Wed. This will be associated with a surface low
pressure system resulting in some low level convergence too. The
cyclonic circulation coupled with some instability with the cold
pool aloft will result in unsettled weather with showers at times.
While this entire period will not be a washout...expect times of wet
weather. In fact...enough instability may even be present for a few
rumbles of thunder along with some graupel/small hail. Greatest risk
for that will be on Tue but can not rule it out on Wed either.
High temps Tue and Wed will mainly be in the 50s to near 60 with
temps a bit milder on Tue.

Thursday and Friday...

The closed upper level system along with its surface reflection will
push southeast of us by Thu and Fri...but it still be in control of
our weather. This will result in low level flow turning northeast.
So temps will be cool...especially on Thu when portions of eastern
New England and possibly parts of the high terrain may struggle to
reach 50. While we expect the risk for a few additional showers Thu
and Fri...they may tend to be lighter or even accompanied by some
drizzle and fog at times given the onshore flow. Either way rather
cloudy and cool even if much of this time ends up featuring dry
weather.

Next Weekend...

Bulk of the upper level energy shifts far enough southeast of our
region to allow the weather to trend drier and milder. The upper
level flow will be northerly, so not expecting summer warmth but
still a nice recovery. We should see high temps recover mainly into
the 60s Sat and possibly near 70 in spots by Sunday with mainly dry
weather.

.AVIATION /06Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Forecaster Confidence Levels:

Low - less than 30 percent.
Medium - 30 to 60 percent.

Through 12z...

Widespread showers are lifting to the north with just SCT
showers expected next few hours before ending 09-12z from S to
N. MVFR-IFR conditions expected to lower to a period of LIFR
with locally dense fog as winds shift to S, with some
improvement as winds turn SW. LLWS near the coast will diminish
through 09z.

Today... High Confidence.

Rapid improvement in conditions to VFR with clearing skies from
south to north 12-15z. BKN CU developing by midday across
interior MA and N CT by midday. Widely SCT showers developing
this afternoon in western MA/CT. A period of SW gusts to 30-35
kt expected over Cape/Islands this morning, then diminishing.
Otherwise, SW gusts to 20-25 kt gusts today, strongest near the
coast.

Tonight into Tuesday... High confidence in trends. Lower in
timing.

VFR much of tonight, then lowering to MVFR late tonight and Tue
morning, mainly interior as showers redevelop and move across
the region. Isolated thunder possible Tue, mainly northern MA.
Cigs lifting to VFR in the afternoon with risk of showers
continuing, mainly interior. Diminishing SW winds this evening
becoming S/SE 5-10 kt overnight, then S 10-20 kt Tue.

KBOS Terminal...High confidence in TAF trends. Lower in timing.

IFR persists through 12z, with a period of LIFR expected before
the wind shifts to SW by 12z. Rapid improvement to VFR by 14z.

across NE MA waters but expect winds to remain below storm force
as max strengthening of the low level jet occurs in the Gulf of
Maine. Winds diminish after midnight as the jet lifts to the
north, then winds shift to SW late tonight. Max seas peak at
14-17 ft over northeastern MA waters tonight.
