.SYNOPSIS...
A weak high pressure builds towards our region today, but gusty
winds picking up late today into Monday. Increasing clouds
Monday ahead of a weak low pressure that passes south of Long
Island Monday night into early Tuesday. This may bring a mix of
rain and wet snow, but with limited, if any, impact. Dry but
unsettled weather for the rest of this workweek. Seasonable
temperatures, though somewhat cooler than normal on the highs,
and somewhat milder than normal on the lows.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Last of the lingering showers from yesterday's storm finally
dissipated/moved offshore early this morning. Will still be
dealing with plenty of clouds across southern New England
though. While high pressure will be approaching our region from
the west today, it will not quite get here. The relatively light
NW flow combined with a sheared mid level shortwave and some
modest low level humidity to generate these clouds. Not thinking
there will be enough lift to generate showers, so kept this
forecast dry. Something that will need to be watched, should the
instability turn out to be greater than expectations. Gusty
winds should result from the initial surge of colder air later
today into this evening.

Near normal high temperatures.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH 6 PM MONDAY/...
High pressure continues to approach tonight into Monday,
tightening the pressure gradient between it and a blocked
surface low pressure near the Maritimes. Expecting gusty
conditions all night, especially across the coastal waters.
Should not have a lot of radiational cooling tonight due to this
mechanical mixing, despite the clearing sky. Thinking low
temperatures should actually wind up a little higher than what
we will see this Sunday morning. More sunshine Monday should
also mean a rise in high temperatures compared to today, too.

Gusty winds continue into Monday. Thinking we will stay just
under Wind Advisory thresholds, but that is something that will
require further monitoring. Cape Ann and Cape Cod would be the
most likely areas, should one be needed.

Generally dry conditions continue through this portion of the
forecast.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Highlights

* Slight chance for some light snow/rain showers Monday
  night/Tuesday morning a weak low pressure passes south of
  southern New England

* Persistent weather pattern next week characterized by
  northwest winds, slightly above normal low temperatures, and
  slightly below normal high temperatures

Monday night and Tuesday

A weak area of low-pressure digs down from the The Midwest and
passes south of southern New England Monday night into Tuesday
morning. This may bring with it some isolated to scattered
rain/snow showers with the latter being more likely over the
high terrain. Model guidance has been trending drier and drier
the last 24 hours, so there is a good chance that most areas
stay dry Monday night. At the very least we can count on this
area of low pressure supporting overcast skies for most of the
day Tuesday. Deep northwest flow will support seasonably cool
conditions with lows in the mid to upper 20s Tuesday morning and
upper 30s to low 40s during the afternoon.

Wednesday through Saturday

Broad cyclonic flow associated with a quasi-stationary area of
low pressure over The North Atlantic will support a deep and
persistent northerly flow pattern over southern New England
through the end of next week. As a result we're expecting little
variation in diurnal temperatures swings with slightly above
normal overnight low temperatures (generally in the 20s) and
slightly below normal high temperatures (upper 30s/low 40s).
Expect more clouds than sunshine next week as North Atlantic
moisture is persistently transported over southern New England
via the broad cyclonic flow over The Atlantic. This persistent
pattern is expected to break sometime next weekend with a
potential round of substantial precipitation as the next frontal
system approaches the Northeast during the Saturday/Sunday time
frame.

.AVIATION /07Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Forecaster Confidence Levels:

Low - less than 30 percent.
Medium - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

Today...High confidence.

VFR with some mid/high clouds in place to start. Lower clouds
bases expected to develop late this morning into this afternoon.
Mainly VFR bases, but could see areas of MVFR, especially across
the higher terrain. Also not completely out of the question
there are a few spotty snow showers across the interior.
Confidence in coverage still too low to include in the TAFs.
Winds out of the WNW/NW around 5-10 kts. Could see some 15-20 kt
gusts this afternoon.

Tonight...High confidence.

Mainly VFR with increasing NW winds. Areas MVFR cigs may linger
towards the Berkshires. Speeds of 15-20 kt with gusts of 20-30
kt.

Monday...High confidence.

VFR. Gusty W-NW winds 15-20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt continue.
Gusts up to 40 kt possible closer to the coast, especially from
Cape Ann to outer Cape Cod.

Low pressure from yesterday reaches the Maritimes, then
essentially gets stuck through Monday. A high pressure

Craft Advisories for others. Expecting winds to diminish for
brief while later this morning, so will move the window for
Small Craft Advisory conditions with the early morning forecast
package.

Rough seas will linger across the outer coastal waters through
today, before building across most of the waters tonight into
Monday as the stronger winds arrive. Since this will be a W-NW
wind, the offshore waters will be most affected.
