Lots of sunshine and not a lot of wind today. We'll be a little cooler than Friday but with the lack of wind, should be a nice day. Things start to go downhill late tonight. We'll get more into that with the next forecast, but in general there continues to be quite a bit of uncertainty with this system. No changes to the current watch at this time. UPDATE Issued at 850 AM CST Sat Mar 4 2023 Minimal changes for the Saturday morning update. A little bit of high clouds moving east through the James River Valley, and a few isolated patches of lower clouds, otherwise sunny skies across western and central ND this morning. We utilized a blend of our given NBM guidance with a consensus of short term guidance for temperatures today. This bumped temperatures up a little southwest and south central, and with generally light winds today, not confident bumping up highs as much as some guidance indicates at this time. Currently, quasi-zonal flow aloft with an embedded S/WV moving off to our east across the region early this morning. In the wake of this wave, the sky has trended clear, with the exception of my southeast where mid to upper level clouds are streaming associated with a more defined wave/sfc low bringing precip to South Dakota. A subtle west/southwesterly low level flow today with winds much lighter compared to Friday. With less mixing potential and a similar thermal profile, daytime highs today will be several degrees cooler than yesterday, but still seasonal with dry weather. Not much has changed regarding another round of winter weather set to impact the region late this weekend. Models continue to show lead energy moving into the Northern Plains late tonight, followed by a more defined S/WV lifting east-northeast across South Dakota Sunday night and closing off. Strong synoptic forcing still progged to develop across the Dakotas late tonight into early Sunday, as an upper level jet streak rounds the Pacific NW low and punches east across the Central Rockies.
