.SYNOPSIS...
Cold front will cross the region this evening with isolated to
scattered showers and thunderstorms. Conditions dry out Sunday.
The next chance for rain and snow showers comes late Monday
into Tuesday as a weak system passes through.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
3 PM Update...

Potent low pressure will track into the Great Lakes this
evening. Currently the area is under a dry slot, so shower
activity has really diminished, however, showers will be moving
back into the region later this evening. As negative tilted
trough and triple point swings in this evening, mid level lapse
rates increase to near 8C/km. Forecast soundings are indicating
some elevated instability with MU CAPE values near 300 J/kg,
however considerable dry air also exists in the mid levels.
Also, BUFKIT sounding profiles show strong winds aloft and if
some convection can be realized then some stronger gusts may mix
down to the surface. SPC has pushed a marginal risk for severe
storms into our western zones, but severe threat is much more
likely west of our forecast area. However, with this forecast
update, the chance for isolated thunderstorms has been expanded
across the entire region due to the decent mid level
instability, but the best chance for any thunder this evening
will be west of I81 corridor.

Front pushes through overnight with high pressure building in
behind it for tomorrow. Should see clearing skies on Sunday at
least across the southern half of the forecast area. Where the
clouds clear, temperatures should easily climb into the upper
40s to mid 50s, but where cloud cover persist will see highs
only in the upper 30s to low 40s.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A weak low pressure/clipper system will move through the region
late Monday into Tuesday morning. Precipitation would likely
start off as rain, before changing to some snow for Monday
night. Some light snow accumulations are possible, but surface
temperatures will be marginal (lows only in the upper 20s to
lower 30s). That being said, the bulk of the QPF would be at
night, so the strong March sun angle won't be much of a factor.

A few lingering rain and snow showers will be possible on
Tuesday, but a general drying trend will be present.
Temperatures will rebound with highs likely in the 40s.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
305 PM Update:

Not much has changed with the long term with still plenty of
uncertainty. Despite decent model guidance agreement in seeing a
system move through Friday into Saturday, kept PoPs capped at
high-end chance since a lot can change between now and then.
Otherwise, stuck closely to the National Blend of Models.

Previous Discussion:

Another weak low pressure system tracks to our south later
Tuesday into Wednesday. Some of the ensemble guidance shows that
this could be a more significant event. However, the most
likely outcome is for a flatter weaker system bringing another
chance for rain and snow showers. Temperatures generally in the
30's and 40's.

A weak cold front looks to push through early Thursday. Light winds
through the middle of the week would become westerly behind the
front. With these westerly winds, some lake effect snow showers
would be possible near the NY Thruway corridor. Yet another low
pressure system has a good amount of ensemble agreement
tracking into the Great Lakes Friday bringing warmer
temperatures and another chance of rain showers.

.AVIATION /19Z SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
A strong low pressure system will track into the Great Lakes
this evening. This system will bring strong gusty winds, rain
showers and isolated thunderstorms to the region this evening.
IFR to MVFR restrictions are likely through this afternoon and
evening. Late tonight this system will drag a cold front
through the area and high pressure will build in behind that
front. Expect ceilings to lift by early Sunday morning, but
potential for MVFR ceilings will remain at SYR, RME and BGM.
Winds will also shift direction (to the west) behind the front
and remain gusty at 20 to 30 knots.

Outlook...

Sunday afternoon through Monday...mainly VFR. Possible
restrictions in rain and snow showers at RME/SYR during the day
Sunday. Gusty west/northwest winds persist.

Monday night through Wednesday...A few rain and snow showers
could lead to brief restrictions at the terminals.

Thursday...Mostly VFR with high pressure overhead.
