.NEAR TERM...(Through Tonight)

High Impact Weather Potential...Minimal

Pattern Synopsis/Forecast/Concerns...The snow bands are making their
way out of the forecast area, with most of the snow now east of I-75
in NE Lower. The clearing line is still charging across Lake
Michigan with the clearing getting to TVC and MBL around 21z. It may
get to GLR around that time too, but some of the clouds are getting
hung up in N Lake Michigan around Beaver Island. However, as we get
into the evening, the sky should continue to clear out and the
clearing line should make it to the rest of the forecast area, by
03z. Winds will diminish through the evening, and be light
overnight. NBM numbers seem to be a little on the warm side for the
lows, so when with the 25pct numbers in the teen in N lower and
single digits in E Upper. This would possibly give us a tied record
at the Soo with +7F tomorrow morning. As long as the winds diminish
to calm or variable at 3 mph or less then it is likely we will get
there. Records for most of the other sites are in the single digits
(TVC/APN/PLN/HTL) and at this point not expected to drop the extra
10 degrees to get to record territory.

.SHORT TERM...(Sunday through Tuesday)

High Impact Weather Potential...minimal. Some light snow Sunday
night.

High pressure will shift east, off the east coast Sunday night. Low
pressure will move east along the US/Canada border and northern Lk
Superior thru Mon morning. The most substantial precip will along
and north of the track of the surface low, and thus north of our
area. However, a warm advection wing will bring increasing cloud
cover on Sunday, and likely some to eastern upper MI.

Most of our precip chances in northern sections play out Sunday
afternoon and evening, when isentropic ascent is maximized, and
before the surface occluded front swings in from the west. Initial
saturation occurs at or above 10k ft, before lowering late on
Sunday. Though surface temps should get above freezing for part of
Sunday, evap cooling will knock that back down, and what precip we
get will be mostly snow in the eastern UP. As you head south (where
pops and QPF will be less), PLN will see more of a rain-snow mix,
even into the evening as strengthening warm advection more then
compensates for the loss of diurnal heating. Snow amounts reach near
2" at Whitefish Pt, 1-2" at the Sault, and decrease to the south.

Max temps Sun upper 30s to upper 40s. Lows in the 30s.

Somewhat gusty west winds will continue behind the occluded front
late Sunday night into early Monday. A trailing cold front
eventually drops southward into northern MI Mon afternoon; low-level
moisture is enhanced just behind boundary. Perhaps eastern upper MI
can see a small chance for light rain/snow on Monday. Meanwhile, lee-
side cyclogenesis is occurring in CO, with a sharpening warm frontal
zone extending toward the southern lakes. The zone of active wx
along this front will be to our south thru the daylight hours on
Monday.

Max temps Mon low 40s north to mid 50s south. Lows in the 20s to mid
30s.

The developing surface low eventually ejects for the central plains
on Tuesday, with a stationary front along the southern border of
lower MI. Isentropic ascent north of the front ramps up Mon night,
though the Nam is likely too aggressive in rocketing moisture
northward. A chance of mostly rain will push north (as far as M-32)
Monday night; perhaps mixed precip along the leading edge. Forcing
becomes a bit more diffuse on Tuesday morning, before increasing
from the w in the afternoon. P-type still looks liquid south of M-
32, and mixy to the north. Max temps upper 30s to upper 40s.

.LONG TERM...(Tuesday night through Saturday)

Mature cyclone will pass across northern MN and northern Superior on
Wed, sending a strong cold front across the area at the same time.
The best chance for rain (and embedded thunderstorms) will be Tue
night and early Wed. And precip could still be mixy in eastern upper
MI Tue night. There is perhaps an opportunity for temps to warm on
Wed, after widespread precip departs, and before the cold front
arrives. We still advertise highs on Wed from near 50f north to the
mid 60s se. A quick shot of much colder arrives, with chance for
lake effect snow Wed night into Thu, and highs Thu mostly in the
30s. High pressure moves directly overhead after that, with quiet wx
and eventually moderating temps

.AVIATION...(For the 18Z TAFS through 18Z Sunday afternoon)

the snow is coming to an end with APN and PLN still facing some
snow yet, but the main bands look to be through MBL, TVC and CIU.
However, hot on the heels of the last snow bands is the clearing
line. Looking at the satellite images, the clearing is charging
across C and E Upper as well as Wisconsin and is beginning to get
into Lake Michigan. The main concern is whether Lake Michigan will
slow it down. Current projection is that it would be clearing in
TVC and MBL in about 3 hours (around 21z). However, the dry air
will get in here by the evening, and the CIGs and VSBYs will be
VFR overnight into Sunday afternoon. The winds will diminish after
00z this evening, and will expect that it could be calm for a time
overnight. Sunday morning, the winds will begin to increase out of
the south as the next system moves into the region. There are some
signals for LLWS after 18z, which will be covered in the 00z tafs
tonight.

Tonight through Monday...winds will continue to drop off through the
night, from the Gales of this afternoon to small craft tonight, and
then variable at less than 10 knots overnight. However, by Sunday
morning south winds begin to increase ahead of the next system with
small craft to maybe gales expected Sunday night. Monday, the small
craft would continue through most of the day, before dropping to
less than 10 knots by the late afternoon.
