High Impact Weather Potential: Minimal.

Pattern Synopsis/Forecast: Transient amplified mid-upper level
trough axis early this morning currently extends from near Hudson
Bay southward across the western Great Lakes into the central
Plains. Several pieces of energy embedded within the larger scale
mid-level flow. Northern stream energy continues to trek across the
northern lakes, including northern Michigan early this morning,
which will depart east over the next couple of hours taking along
any vestiges of steadier precipitation along with it. More notable
southern wave noted across the central/southern Plains will trek
east today into tonight. Classic surface response out ahead of this
wave as low pressure continues to gather strength near the MO/IL/KY
border, which will trek northeastward into the Ohio Valley today,
reaching vicinity New England by 12z Friday.

Primary Forecast Concerns: Perhaps some lingering drizzle/freezing
drizzle this morning. Scattered north flow lake effect snow shower
chances this afternoon into tonight.

Little in the way of impact from the aforementioned system cruising
through the Ohio Valley today into tonight with notable
precipitation from that system displaced well to our south and east.
Perhaps some patchy freezing drizzle and fog persists into the
morning hours as forecast soundings display lingering low-level
moisture remaining socked in. However, given increasingly shallow
moisture through the early-mid morning hours, along with steepening
low-level lapse rates, this certainly isn't expected to be a big
deal.

Bigger story will likely be a brief return to colder temperatures on
the backside of the departing system through the Ohio Valley. Those
colder temperatures begin to filter in aloft today with any real
surface response holding off until tonight into the end of the week,
despite occasionally gusty north winds. Low-level airmass does
become cold enough to entice a lake response by late today into the
overnight hours, mainly across north flow regimes. However,
convective depths look to remain incredibly shallow (generally under
4kft) with agressive drying above the convective layer. Certainly
expect that some scattered and relatively disorganized snow shower
activity will percolate at times as early as this afternoon into
tonight, with any accumulations largely remaining under an inch for
those that do see snow showers.

High temperatures today under lots of continued cloud cover ranging
from the low-upper 30s area-wide...warmest near Saginaw Bay. Lows
tonight falling into the teens and low 20s.

High Impact Weather Potential: Low

Pattern Synopsis:

Obvious longwave troughing will encompass the eastern half of the
CONUS on Friday as an amplified ridge slides from the Rocky Mountain
West over the Great Plains by Saturday. A cyclone supported by
aforementioned troughing aloft will continue to trek across New
England to end the week as surface high pressure builds across much
of the central CONUS down to the Gulf by the end of the period.

Forecast Details:

While little impactful winter weather is expected, northerly flow on
the backside of the departing system will usher in a colder airmass
by Friday and continue the chances for light lake effect
snow/flurries across parts of the area into Friday afternoon --
mainly south of Grand Traverse Bay and near Thunder Bay. Otherwise,
the remainder of the period is expected to remain dry as subsidence
and associated high pressure build in overhead. This should finally
begin to break up cloud cover and reveal sunshine across parts of
northern Michigan later in the day Friday. Continued clearing is
anticipated through Friday night, bringing about the potential for
tanking overnight lows with calm winds also in place to allow for
efficient radiational cooling. The amount of cloud cover in place
will have a big impact on the overnight temperatures we see Friday
night, and thus have only begin to nudge temperatures downward for
now. However, the aforementioned environment, in conjunction with
cold air drainage flow from Ontario, would be supportive of
temperatures dropping into the single digits above and below zero
away from the lakeshores.

High Impact Weather Potential: Low for now

Amplified upper-level ridging will continue to slide across the
center of the CONUS, nosing over the Great Lakes by Sunday.
Subsidence aloft will build surface high pressure stretching from
the Gulf into southern Canada. Precip-free weather with
aforementioned high pressure is expected to continue through the end
of the weekend. The next main chance for rain/snow may return early
next week as the upper-level pattern flattens and long range
guidance continues to place the main jet across the southern CONUS,
bringing about a more active storm track across the Great Lakes/Ohio
Valley through next week. Plenty of uncertainty exists and any
details in timing/expected precip will become more clear as next
week draws near. Otherwise, above average temperatures are expected
to continue through much of next week with high temperatures mainly
in the 30s and even into the 40s across the area.

Quebec by Thursday afternoon. Areas of mixed light rain/light

conditions will remain MVFR/IFR thru Thursday night. S/SE surface
