...Breezy with showers and scattered thunderstorms thru tonight...

High Impact Weather Potential...Non-severe thunderstorms are
possible across Eastern Upper and Northern Lower Michigan today and
tonight. Heavy rain is also possible.

Low pressure continues to develop over the Central Plains...
generating several areas of convection along and ahead of the low
and its associated cold and warm fronts. Weak shower activity
continues to impact portions of  Lower Michigan attm along and north
of the warm front while stronger convection fires closer to the low
center and cold front. Latest near term models lift the low center
northeastward into the Western Great Lakes region today...with the
low stalling and occluding over Northern Michigan tonight as the
closed upper low becomes vertically stacked with the surface system.
The result will be waves of showers and scattered embedded
thunderstorms over the next 24 hours. Chances of thunder will
increase as we head into today in response to increasing
instability...albeit elevated in nature. Thus...do not expect any
severe storms despite strengthening wind fields (in agreement with
SPC Day 1 Outlook of general thunder across our CWA). Heavy rain is
not out of the question...but overall expected QPF will be between a
half an inch and an inch thru tonight.

Temps will be more mild today thanks to WAA in advance of the
approaching system. High temps will range from the low to mid 40s
across Eastern Upper and far NE Lower Michigan to the low to mid 60s
across our SW CWA. Low temps tonight will drop into the mid to upper
30s across Eastern Upper and far Northern Lower Michigan...and into
the low to mid 40s across the rest of Northern Lower Michigan.

Primary Forecast Concerns...Pops through the period.

High Impact Weather...None is expected.

A nearly stationary cutoff upper level low is expected to be
centered across northern Minnesota Friday. Guidance is in good
agreement that drier air on the southeast side of this trough (a dry
slot) moves into northern Michigan so clouds and any showers early
in the day should give way to partial sunshine and mild temperatures
Friday afternoon. Highs ranging from the 50s to low 60s. The upper
low and associated moisture then sink slowly southeast Friday night
into Saturday resulting in a return of cooler temperatures and
scattered to numerous rain showers across the region. Lows Friday
night in the mid and upper 30s. Highs Saturday in the upper 40s and
low 50s.

High Impact Weather...None is expected.

An upper level trough will linger across the region through much if
not all of the long term. This will lead to cool temperatures along
with chances for rain or even a few snow showers (mainly at night)
through at least Monday. Wouldn't be surprised if a few instability
driven showers pop up on Tuesday as well. No pops for Wednesday at
this point but if the trough hangs around longer as suspected some
may need to be added later.

Low pressure will lift NE out of the Central Plains and into the
Western Great Lakes region over the next 24 hours. Widespread
showers and scattered thunderstorms will impact Northern Michigan
along and ahead of this system today and tonight. VFR conditions
will gradually drop to MVFR as this precip continues to develop
across our area. LLWS will develop around TVC and MBL today and
tonight. East surface winds will strengthen to 20 to 30 kts
today into this evening...and will begin to shift to the SW late
tonight.

...Strong thunderstorms will impact portions of Alcona, northern
Crawford, Emmet, Montmorency, Charlevoix, central Mackinac, Alpena,

and northern Iosco Counties through 1015 AM EDT...

At 853 AM EDT, the public reported strong thunderstorms along a line
extending from 29 miles south of Garden to near East Tawas. Movement
was northeast at 40 mph.

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and half inch hail.

SOURCE...Doppler radar and the public.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
         possible.
