.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will remain over the area this evening, and will
become centered from the New England coast to Atlantic Canada
Tuesday and Wednesday. A cold front pushes south through the
local area on Thursday, with low pressure expected to develop
off the southeast coast through Friday. The low is expected to
lift north along the coast into next weekend.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 345 PM EDT Monday...
The latest WX analysis indicates ~1028mb high pressure centered
across Quebec, extending south into the local area. NE winds
prevail under mainly clear skies, with increasing high clouds
moving in from the S. Temperatures range from the upper 70s to
round 80F inland, with lower 70s near the coast. Mostly clear
tonight as the sfc high builds east to northern New England and
New Brunswick. Lows will primarily from 50-55F, except for
locally warmer conditions at the coast w/ lows in the upper 50s
to around 60F.
The center of high pressure becomes anchored along the coast of
New England on Tuesday and continues to extend SSW into the
Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas. Mostly sunny inland and continued
dry with high temperatures slightly cooler, ranging from the
upper 60s/around 70F at the coast to the mid to upper 70s
inland. BUFKIT soundings suggest the potential for enough low
level moisture pushing into SE VA and NE NC after sunrise to
yield partly/variably cloudy conditions there on Tue so have
raised sky cover a bit over the SE.

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 350 PM EDT Monday...
Rather cool Tue night with lows 45-50F inland and in the 50s at
the coast. The high pressure moves farther east over the
Atlantic Ocean/Canadian maritimes by Wednesday, allowing for
slightly warmer air with highs into the upper 70s inland and
70-75F near the coast. A weak cold front is expected to drop
south into the area Wed night. Expect some increase in clouds
but still remaining dry w/ lows mainly in the 50s. Thu will tend
to see more cloud cover as the front drops through the area, and
temperatures near the coast will tend to struggle to even reach
70F, with lower 70s inland. Expect breezy N-NE winds along the
coast w/ gusts to 30 mph.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
As of 350 PM EDT Monday...
The medium range period continues to (slowly) trend to an
unsettled period, especially by Sat-Sun, though uncertainty
remains given a lot of spread in the deterministic models. The
ECMWF is generally the most aggressive and fastest at bringing
low pressure and wet weather into the local area late Fri into
Sat, with an upper low becoming cut off to our W/SW through
early next week. The GFS is a bit slower at pushing the moisture
N into the region Fri night, but does still suggest PoPs rise
significantly by later Sat/Sat night. The Canadian continues to
be the most progressive, not really having the upper low cut off
from the main energy until Sunday as it shifts offshore. Will
continue to primarily base the weekend/early next forecast on
the NBM and the ensemble means. Will keep Fri mainly dry except
for some low chc PoPs making it into NE NC and far southern VA
Fri aftn/evening. Will then have PoPs rising to at least 30-40%
all areas on Sat, and to 40-50% Sat night w/ sfc low pressure
most likely to be be near the region. Beyond that, a lot of
scenarios remain given that the sfc low is forecast to weaken
and the upper low could stay too far W of the region until late
Sun-Mon (per the GFS and ECMWF), or the upper low could be much
weaker per the Canadian. The blended guidance keeps chc PoPs
going for both Sunday and Monday. Cool Thu night w/ lows mid-
upper 40s NW to mid-upper 50s SE. Highs look to be below normal
Fri-Sat, generally in the upper 60s to lower 70s, then trends a
little warmer as the low level NE flow weakens Sun-Mon, with
highs ranging through the 70s with lows in the 50s to lower
60s.

.AVIATION /20Z MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 200 PM EDT Monday...
VFR conditions across the region this aftn with E to NE winds
and mostly sunny skies. Winds will average 10-15kt near the
coast and 5-10kt inland through ~00Z, diminish a bit tonight,
then increase again Tue. There is a small chc for patchy ground
fog at SBY but did not include in the TAF given low confidence.
BUFKIT soundings show the potential for shallow marine moisture
to push into SE VA and NE NC on Tue. May see some brief MVFR
CIGs between 12-18Z but overall expect cloud bases to lift to
>3000 ft by aftn.
Dry and VFR Tue night through Wednesday with a persistent E to
NE wind (strongest along the coasts of SE VA/NE NC) as high
pressure remains centered in vicinity of the New England/eastern
Canada. Another high builds S from central Canada Thursday,
with a cold front crossing the local area, potentially bringing
MVFR CIGs near the coast, along with strong N-NE winds. The chc
for flight restrictions increase late Fri/Sat as coastal low
pressure off the SE coast moves north and into the region.

As of 405 PM EDT Monday...
1026mb high pressure is centered over the lower Saint Lawrence
Valley this aftn, with low pressure over FL. This is resulting
in a NE wind of 10-15kt. Seas are 2-3ft, with 2-3ft waves in the
mouth of the Bay, and 1-2ft elsewhere. The pressure gradient
will tighten later tonight into Tuesday/Tuesday night as high
pressure shifts toward Atlantic Canada and as low pressure
further develops off the coast of FL. A NE wind will increase to
15-20kt with gusts to 25kt (highest S) by early Tuesday
morning, and remain in that range through early Wednesday
morning. Seas build to 4-6ft Tuesday AM and reach 5-7ft (highest
in the NE NC coastal waters) by Tuesday evening. SCAs remain in
effect (beginning late tonight) for the ocean, lower Bay, lower
James, and Currituck Sound. SCAs for the lower Bay, lower
James, and Currituck Sound end early Wednesday morning. Not
confident enough to issue SCAs for the mid/upper Ches Bay and
upper rivers, as local wind probabilities for sustained 18kt
winds are only 10-50% there.
Wind speeds diminish Wednesday and will be sub-SCA (10-15kt) by
the aftn/evening with the direction remaining NE. However, seas
likely remain at or above 5ft. A rather strong cold front
arrives for late May arrives late Wednesday night/early Thursday
morning. The wind is expected to become NNE and increase to
15-20kt with gusts to 25kt, and potentially 20-25kt with gusts
to 30 kt southern ocean. SCAs are likely for much of the marine
area, and this will result in seas remaining elevated through at
least the end of the week. the SCA for the ocean has been
extended through Thursday at this time. By the weekend there is
much more uncertainty with the potential for low pressure
lifting N along the Carolina coast.

As of 405 PM EDT Monday...
Persistent onshore flow and elevated seas will result in an
increased threat of rip currents through much of this week. A
high risk of rip currents is forecast Tuesday and Wednesday.
Persistent onshore flow will allow for building tides later
this week, with elevated water levels and some minor coastal
flooding possible, especially in the lower Bay/lower James and
ocean S of Parramore Is.
