.SHORT TERM...Not much change to the forecast for the next 36 hours. The
stationary boundary is scheduled to shift slightly in orientation
from northwest to southeast. Winds are expected to diminish from
gales down to lower end small craft by this evening and will
continue through Sunday night. Seas are expected to remain elevated
along the outer coast of 10 feet or greater from the sustained
winds. Still not much impact to the inner channels with the
exception of icy strait corridor. Winds are expected to remain light
to up to 10 knots in most areas until Sunday night. Sunday and into
Monday, a southerly wave looks to move up through the southern
panhandle which will bring fresh small craft winds to Clarence
Strait and Dixon Entrance.
Rain looks to also be on track with little changes here and there to
communicate definite times of rain to no rain. One change; however,
is the change to skies and, by extension, temperatures. The
introduction of more dry air into the lower and mid levels looks to
clear up some clouds for most of the far inner channels and southern
panhandle on Sunday. Raised some temperatures in these areas to
reflect more solar radiation reaching the surface. Ultimately, these
temperatures will be high dependent on if the clouds clear up and
how fast.
.LONG TERM.../Monday through Thursday/...As the low pressure
continues to work through the gulf and weaken on Monday, rain and
winds will continue across the area. With the low weakening over
the NW gulf, winds will not be as strong as they have been during
the weekend. Most places along the outer coast will be looking at
25 kts or less for the start of the week. For the rest of the
week, an upper level low located over the western part of the
interior will allow for surface lows to rotate around it. These
lows will either move into the gulf or remain stationary near the
western gulf allowing for more unsettled weather and rain across
the region. Moving into the latter half of the week, ensembles
continue to show the upper level low remaining in place continuing
the trend of onshore flow and chances of seeing rain. There are
some chances though that the southern panhandle could see some
breaks in the clouds. With the continued uncertainty in the
forecast, relied on ensembles for the going forecast as models
have continued with the trend from yesterday.

.AVIATION.../Through Sunday afternoon/...Generally good
conditions with regard to CIGs and VSBY will continue through the
period...Except for the northeast Gulf Coast where extended
periods of IFR conditions will persist under moderate to heavy
rain. Turbulence and LLWS has been a factor today, as evidenced by
PIREPS received today. Based on forecast 850 mb isotachs,
conditions are worst along the outer coast, but still impactful on
the inside north of a line from Klawock to Petersburg and south of
Berners Bay. As the next frontal wave transits north, turbulence
on the outside will remain harsh. Conditions on the inside will
deteriorate through the night and remain pretty rough through the
day tomorrow (Sunday) as well. The phrase "shaken, not stirred"
comes to mind.
