.SYNOPSIS...

Another round of snow is on tap for the Brooks Range, West Coast,
Western and the Central Interior as a front moves south and east
out of the Chukchi Sea and a second front moves north and east
out of the Eastern Bering Sea tonight. The two fronts will merge
and stall briefly over the Western Interior and Central Brooks
Range on Tuesday and then push slowly to the east into the Central
Interior Tuesday night and into Wednesday. Moisture moving north
and east along the front will produce widespread snowfall totals
of 1 to 4 inches over the Brooks Range and Western and Central
Interior with a narrow band of 4 to 8 inches of snow expected to
fall from Atigun Pass south and west to Bettles to Galena and into
the Lower YK Delta into Wednesday.

.DISCUSSION...

The 03/00z model suite initialized well against the 00z surface
analysis and upper air observations and verified well against the
06z surface analysis. The models continue to slow down the merger
of the two fronts allowing more time for moisture to move north
and east into the Western and Central Interior before the front
swings east and a much colder airmass sweeps south and east over
the North Slope, the West Coast and Interior Wednesday.

Aloft...
At 500mb weak ridging over southern Alaska will continue to push
to the east today as a 504 dam low over the Chukchi Sea dives
south and east over the Northwest Coast today and a 528 dam low
over the Southern Bering Sea weakens and moves north and east into
the Eastern Bering Sea today. The low over the Southern Bering
Sea as it moves north and east will weaken and merge with a strong
upper level trough emerging over the West Coast and Western
Interior by Tuesday. The 504 dam low over the Northwest Coast
deepens to 499 dam as the entire longwave trough assumes a
negative tilt by Wednesday which will deepen and slow down the
associated front over the Western Interior. 850 mb temperatures
in the mid 20s below will continue to dive south and east over the
North Slope, Western Brooks Range and Interior behind this front
Tuesday and Wednesday.

Surface...
A 1000 mb low over the Southern Bering Sea with associated front
pushing north and east this morning will continue to move north
and east as the front pushes into the Western Interior this
afternoon. A 1012 mb low 100 nm north and west of Point Barrow
with a front draped south and west along the Northwest Coast will
slowly deepen and remain nearly stationary as the associated
front pushes south and east over the Western North Slope, the
Western Brooks Range and into the Western Interior and will merge
with the front sweeping in from the southwest today. Moisture
ahead of both front will produce a band of heavier snow now
expected to line along an Atigun Pass to Bettles to Galena to the
Lower YK Delta line tonight and Tuesday where 4 to 8 inches of
snow is expected to fall. Winter Weather Advisories have been
issued for these areas. This front will move slowly into the
northern portions of the Central Interior Tuesday and Tuesday
night. Generally 1 to 4 inches of snow is expected to fall with
this system over the Brooks Range, the Western and Central
Interior outside of the heavier snow band mentioned above.

Arctic Coast and Brooks Range...Cloudy with snow and blowing snow
will continue today as a front associated with a weak low pressure
system northwest of Point Barrow continues to push south and east
over the Western North Slope and Wester Brooks Range today. East
of Utqiagvik expect increasing clouds with light snow or flurries.
Winds mainly southwest to south at 5 to 20 mph with the strongest
winds along the coast. High temperatures today will be in the
single digits above and teens above. Low temperatures tonight
mainly in the single digits and teens below in the west and in the
single digits above in the east.

West Coast and Western Interior...Increasing clouds today as weak
high pressure moves inland and a front associated with a low in
the Eastern Bering Sea pushes north and east into and then stalls
in the Middle Yukon Valley. Snow will develop in Lower YK Delta by
late this morning and further north and east over the Western
Interior this afternoon and this evening. Winds will increase
south of the Bering STrait in the coastal areas and become east to
southeast at 10 to 25 mph. A narrow band of enhance snow will
develop today from the Lowery YK Delta north and eastward to just
south of Galena where 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected to fall
through Tuesday night. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued
for these areas. High temperatures today will be in the single
digits above in Kotzebue Sound and in the teen and 20s elsewhere.
Low temperatures tonight will be in the single digits and teens
below in Kotzebue Sound and in the teens and 20s elsewhere.

Central and Eastern Interior...Increasing clouds today ahead of a
front the will stall along a Atigun Pass to Bettles to Galena line
tonight and Tuesday. The front will begin to slowly push east
Tuesday night. Snow will increase today along the front where a
narrow band of 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected through Tuesday
night and Wednesday. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued
for these areas. Outside of the narrow band of snow expect
generally 1 to 4 inches of snow north and west of Fairbanks
tonight and Tuesday and generally 1 to 2 inches Tuesday night into
Wednesday for the rest of the Central and Eastern Interior. Winds
will generally be light except for gusty winds developing in the
Alaska Range Passes this evening and continuing into Tuesday. High
temperatures today will be in the 20s and 30s. Low temperatures
tonight will be in the single digits above near Arctic Village and
in the teens and 20s elsewhere.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.
