The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has allowed the Red
Flag Warning to expire at 10 PM AKDT since the conditions are no 
longer being met. There is a potential for red flag conditions 
again tomorrow afternoon but it will be marginal.

Northern Alaska Forecast Discussion

.SYNOPSIS...
A ridge of high pressure will continue to build west across
mainland Alaska through mid-week then gradually lift north toward
the Arctic coast. This will bring warming conditions and more
summer-like weather to northern Alaska this week. Thunderstorm
activity will also increase over the Interior the next few days
with Wednesday as the first significant outbreak of the summer.
As the ridge shifts north through the week, temperatures will cool
slightly to the south with increasing shower activity.

.DISCUSSION...
Models in generally good agreement with the main upper level
pattern. High pressure extending from NW Canada across the
Interior to the west coast will move north to Arctic Coast by
Friday, pushing an upper level low over the Arctic further north.
A persistent upper low over the southern Bering Sea will rotate
waves of moisture and clouds northward into southwest Alaska and
the western Interior. The extent of the this moisture will push
further north and east as the high aloft shifts to the Arctic.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Relatively quiet weather the next few days. Mostly cloudy
conditions along the Arctic coast west of Deadhorse and partly
cloudy inland and over the eastern Arctic. Clouds will gradually
increase over the region through Wednesday. Temperatures 50's to
60's inland and mainly in the 40s along the coast. Winds will
shift to the east and increase along the coast on Tuesday to
15-25 mph over the western Arctic and 15-20 mph on the eastern
Arctic coast. Some lingering showers this evening near Utqiagvik
and a few showers developing in northeast Brooks Range on Tuesday,
otherwise mainly dry.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Partly to mostly cloudy with showers spreading north into the
lower Yukon River Valley and Norton Sound tonight with a few
showers developing from McGrath to the Seward Peninsula on
Tuesday. Some showers over much of the area Wednesday with
isolated thunderstorms from Galena to Ambler and eastward.
Temperatures in the 50's along the coast transitioning to the
lower 70's going inland to he Koyukuk and upper Kobuk Valley. The
strongest winds will be through the Bering Strait with northeast
winds 20-30 mph peaking on Tuesday.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms developing from the
Alcan border west across the Yukon Flats to Beaver and over the
Fortymile Country on Tuesday. The footprint of thunderstorms will
expand west across Fairbanks to Galena and north to the Brooks
Range on Wednesday. Temperatures will climb into the mid and
upper 70s through Wednesday with slightly cooler temperatures on
Thursday. Dry conditions and low relative humidities especially in
the Tanana Valley, along the Alaska Range, and in the upper Yukon
Flats. Gap winds gusting 20 to 30 mph through Alaska Range passes
will develop on Tuesday, especially through Isabel Pass south of
Delta.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Warming and drying trend will lead to marginal Red Flag conditions
along the Alaska Range near Delta Junction south to the Donnelly
Dome area on Tuesday. Expecting temperatures into the lower to mid
70's, relative humidities in the lower 20's percent, and winds 20
to 30 mph through Isabel Pass but only near 15 mph at Delta
Junction. Elsehwere, relative humidity dropping into 30's percent
range from the central to eastern Interior with a pocket of lower
20's percent in the upper Yukon Valley and in the upper Tanana
Valley. Isolated thunderstorms will develop on Tuesday and
Wednesday in the area described in the section above, with
Wednesday being the most active thunderstorm day so far this
summer.

.HYDROLOGY...Water is running high on the lower Yukon and Innoko
Rivers but gradually falling. River levels are also within bank
and falling elsewhere across the state. With the warmer
temperatures, glacially fed rivers will start to rise this week
but remain within bank.
