.SYNOPSIS...
Summer is returning to the Interior. Warming temps through
Saturday will also be accompanied by summer time thunderstorm
chances for most of the Interior. Out west, showery weather
returns while the North Slope will see a return to east winds and
low stratus and fog.

.DISCUSSION...

Upper Levels and Analysis...
There is a 528 dam arctic low moving east toward Banks Island.
There is a 560 dam cutoff low kicking out to the north over the
Gulf of Alaska. There is a large 532 dam upper low over Adak. A
subtle shortwave trough is moving north across the Lower
Yukon/Middle Kusko Valleys. Another stronger shortwave trough is
moving east into the Yukon Territory. Elevated thunderstorms
formed early over the White Mtns and Yukon Flats and now surface
based DMC is forming.

Model Discussion...
The numerical weather models are in excellent agreement with the
synoptic scale pattern. They are still suffering a bit with
convective potential as they always do, but are also in slight
disagreement still with the ejecting upper low moving from the
Gulf into the SE Interior Saturday and Sunday. The differences
revolve around timing which has impacts regarding the placement
and timing of thunderstorm activity over the Interior. For now we
will maintain widely scattered thunderstorms for most of the
Interior, even with these differences.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Summer has returned for most of the Interior as temps are back
into the 70s for most low elevations valleys. Thunderstorms have
also returned over the S Interior. Today is starting active and it
looks active through this evening as a weak shortwave trough will
move northeast, helping to keep heavy showers with widely
scattered thunderstorms into the evening across the Tanana Valley
and White Mtns/S Yukon Flats. Tomorrow looks drier and more
isolated thunderstorm activity which will favor Interior mountains
and higher terrain. It'll be warmer too and again Saturday with
widespread upper 70s and some lower 80s.

Speaking of Saturday, it still looks rather active with the
potential for heavy downpours in strong thunderstorms, which may
produce frequent lightning and small hail and gusty winds. Right
now the strongest activity looks to favor a line from Tanana to
Fairbanks to Eagle. Stay tuned...

West Coast and Western Interior...
A front has moved light rain showers into the Norton Sound area as
well as St Lawrence Island and the YK Delta. This activity will
move north tonight and a southeast flow showery pattern will
maintain itself through the weekend. Isolated thunderstorms will
favor the S Interior/Kusko Valley today and then spread across the
remaining Interior Fri through Sun.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
Cool and cloudy will maintain itself as a weak high moves east
tonight. Reinforcing east winds develop 15 to 25 mph for Fri and
early Sat with low stratus and some fog. Increasing chances for
Brooks Range showers and isolated thunderstorms develop as south
flow aloft emerges for the weekend. Temps warm for the weekend
with inland low 70s and some upper 50s to 60s near the coast.

Extended Forecast Days 4-7...
Beginning Monday there is a low in the Gulf of AK and strong south
flow aloft over the Mainland. Expect slightly cooler temps from
the warm weekend temps early next week, with chances for inland
showers and isolated thunderstorms. The eastern half of the
Interior warms again by midweek with a rather active pattern
likely as systems rotate inland from the Gulf of AK.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Widely scattered wet thunderstorms through this evening over the
White Mtns and S Yukon Flats and Minto Flats, with iso wet
thunderstorms over the rest of the S Interior. More isolated wet
thunderstorms Friday with warmer temps near 80, but min RH values
struggling into the low 30% although the Yukon Flats will once
again be the driest with some upper 20% values. Saturday is warm
again but strong widely scattered to possibly scattered wet
thunderstorms are possible, from the Fortymile Uplands west to
Tanana and possibly the S Yukon Flats. Stay tuned...

.HYDROLOGY...
Rivers draining the Alaska Range are elevated from
moderate rainfall early this week. They are remaining below
bankfull though, and additional rainfall will be showery in
nature. No significant concerns at this time.
