...BLIZZARD WARNING IS CANCELLED FOR WHITTIER TO TURNAGAIN PASS...

Strong and gusty winds have developed, especially in Whittier.
This is leading to areas of blowing and drifting snow along the
ground surface, but snow is not being lofted enough to produce
blizzard conditions. Gusty winds will persist through the weekend,
leading to continued blowing of snow along the surface of the
roads.

Gusty winds have developed through Portage Valley leading to areas
of blowing and drifting snow right at road level. However, the
snow is not being lofted and is thus not causing low visibility 
for drivers.

...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM SATURDAY TO 1 AM
AKST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...For Thompson Pass, Blizzard conditions expected. Winds 
  gusting as high as 55 mph. Visibility reduced to one quarter 
  mile. For Keystone Canyon and Valdez, blowing snow with 
  visibility reduced to one half mile at times. Winds gusting as 
  high as 45 mph.

* WHERE...Thompson Pass to Valdez.

* WHEN...From 1 AM Saturday to 1 AM AKST Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce 
  visibility. Cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero through 
  Thompson Pass could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as 
  little as 30 minutes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...No additional snow is expected during 
  this event. Reduced visibilities will be caused by winds 
  lifting and blowing transportable snow already on the ground.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel very hazardous. If you must travel,
have a winter survival kit with you.If you get stranded, stay
with your vehicle.

Despite continued winds gusts ranging from 25 to 35 mph, overall 
transportable snow through Thompson Pass has been exhausted. 
Afternoon webcams show improved visibility with clear skies. 
Thus, the blizzard warning has been allowed to expire.
