.SYNOPSIS...Temperatures will remain close to normal through
Wednesday before  cooling off as a storm system moves through the
southern Great Basin. Winds will remain light into tomorrow morning,
but will begin to increase tomorrow afternoon across San bernardino
County, and windy conditions are likely area wide on Thursday. A few
rain and high elevation snow showers will also be possible on
Thursday. Warmer temperatures and more tranquil conditions are
expected by the end of the weekend.  &&

.SHORT TERM... through Thursday.

Ensemble guidance continues to be in good agreement with a strong
upper-level trough moving through the region over the next few days.
Southwest winds ahead of this feature will allow temperatures to
warm to near to a few degrees above normal for most areas tomorrow
afternoon. A tightening pressure gradient over southern California
will help to enhance winds over western San Bernardino County
tomorrow afternoon and have decided to go ahead and issue a Wind
Advisory for this area. Other areas across the Mojave desert will
also see gusty winds tomorrow but are expecting speeds to remain
below criteria levels through Wednesday night. As a cold front
associated with the trough moves across the region Thursday morning,
strong, cold high pressure will rapidly build in behind it resulting
in gusty northerly winds. Wind advisories have been issued for most
of the area Thursday except the Owens Valley, Sierra, and White
Mountains where lower winds are forecast. Winds will begin to
diminish by late Thursday afternoon with the exception of the lower
Colorado River valley where gusty winds will continue through
Thursday evening before decreasing. Moisture will be limited with
this system and only a few light rain or high elevation snow showers
are expected Wednesday night through Thursday morning. QPF remains
low with most areas seeing only a few hundredths of liquid at best.

.LONG TERM...Friday through next Monday.

By Friday, the shortwave will be southeast, leaving behind
northwesterly flow overhead as a ridge off the west coast builds and
begins to shift eastward. Behind the cold front Thursday, coolest
temperatures are expected Friday morning with much of south-central
NV and northwest AZ below freezing. ECMWF EFI Shift of Tails for
MinT highlights much of the region with -0.8, indicating a somewhat
rare MinT event for 3/11. Though current forecast MinT's are still
5+ degrees from reaching daily record minimums for 3/11, and current
temperatures don't look to be within the scope of a Hard Freeze
product. Even so, it will be an abnormally chilly morning for
nearing mid-March. Besides cool temps Friday, Temperatures will
quickly increase through the weekend as the ridge off the west coast
moves overhead Saturday. Beyond Saturday, Cluster Analysis indicates
some variance in the synoptic pattern Sunday, with some potential of
a weak shortwave moving through, but overall, decent signal of
ridging quickly building back across the west coast early next week.
In general, expected abnormal temperatures by this coming weekend
and early next week.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...Quiet weather is expected until
Wednesday afternoon, when southwest winds will increase, with gusts
around 20 knots possible. Winds may lull Wednesday night before a
cold front blasts through Thursday morning with northerly winds
gusting 30 to 35 knots. This front will also bring a slight chance
of light showers with associated lower ceilings down to 8000 feet
Thursday morning before clouds decrease in the afternoon.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...Northerly winds gusting around 25 knots in the Colorado
River Valley will subside this evening, and northwesterly winds
gusting around 25 knots in the southern Great Basin will subside
overnight. On Wednesday, northwesterly winds gusting around 30 knots
will affect the southern Great Basin again, while west to southwest
winds develop in the Mojave Desert. The strongest gusts of 30 to 35
knots will be in the Barstow area. A cold front will bring lower
ceilings and chances for light rain and snow showers to the southern
Great Basin Wednesday afternoon, spreading south through the Mojave
Desert Wednesday night and Thursday. Behind the front, widespread
northerly winds gusting 30 to 40 knots can be expected, with even
stronger gusts in the Colorado River Valley.
