What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this wind advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Las Vegas, NV wrote its last area forecast discussion before this wind advisory went out at Oct 19, 12:45 PM PDT, 12 hours 10 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Oct 19, 12:45 PM PDT, 12 hours 10 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
1245 PM PDT Wed Oct 19 2022

.SYNOPSIS...
Dry and mild conditions will continue through Friday before an
approaching storm system brings significant changes for the weekend.
Widespread gusty winds, along with a few areas of showers on
Saturday, will usher in colder fall-like temperatures for Sunday.
The cooler weather will then continue into the first part of next
week.
&&

.SHORT TERM...through Thursday.
The high-pressure ridge that has been in place over the past few
days will continue to be the main driver of the weather through the
short term. Dry conditions and temperatures running a few degrees
above average will continue through tomorrow. However, by Friday,
the ridge will begin to shift east and weaken as a trough of low
pressure starts to deepen over the Pacific Northwest. Temperatures
will cool off a few degrees, and an increase in high clouds will be
seen, but overall conditions will still be pleasant.

.LONG TERM...Friday through Tuesday.
A strong jet streak (~165 knots) which passed south of Kamchatka
Tuesday, is forecast to reach the Gulf of Alaska Friday and begin
carving out the trough, which will bring a significant change in the
weather over the weekend. Southwest winds will start to increase
late Friday evening and especially Saturday as the trough moves
inland. Wind Advisories will likely be needed for Saturday, with the
most likely locations being San Bernardino, Clark, and Mohave
counties, although this could shift a bit north or south as we get
closer. Precipitation chances could also break out along the
northern fringes of the CWA as early as Saturday afternoon, with the
best chances likely coming in Lincoln and northern Mohave counties
Saturday night into Sunday morning. Las Vegas could also get a brief
shot of light to moderate rain as the associated cold front passes.
Snow levels will decrease Saturday night as cold air pours in,
bringing chances for higher-elevation snow to Lincoln County and
perhaps the mountains of Clark County as well. Temperatures will
start to drop on Saturday, with the most significant day-to-day drop
of 10 to 15 degrees coming on Sunday. After the trough exits to the
east, winds will start to subside Sunday, and rain and snow chances
will end Sunday night. For Monday and Tuesday, models agree on a
progressive pattern but do not agree on which shortwave trough to
amplify in the fast-moving flow. In general, temperatures should
warm back up somewhat, but we will have to watch out for weaker
waves possibly embedded in the flow.

&&

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...Light winds less than 10 kts expected
today. There is an indication that light northeast winds today will
eventually back to the northwest in the early evening prior to
becoming southwesterly overnight (rather than the typical evening
veer from southeast to southwest). Regardless, winds will remain
light through the TAF period, with a northeasterly direction
returning Thursday morning. FEW high clouds expected today, with SCT-
BKN aoa 25 kft increasing early Thursday.

For the rest of southern Nevada, southeastern California, and
northwestern Arizona...Winds will remain light, below 10 kts,
through the TAF period, generally favoring diurnal trends. FEW high
clouds expected today, with SCT-BKN aoa 25 kft increasing west-to-
east early Thursday.

&&

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
