What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this wind advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Las Vegas, NV wrote its last area forecast discussion before this wind advisory went out at Feb 12, 7:40 PM PST, 6 hours 59 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Feb 12, 7:40 PM PST, 6 hours 59 minutes before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
740 PM PST Sat Feb 12 2022

.SYNOPSIS...Clear skies and unseasonably warm temperatures will
continue across the area through Monday before a pattern shift
brings a storm system to the area with strong winds, a drop in
temperatures, and a chance of light precipitation. Dry, but
seasonal weather is expected late in the week.
&&

.UPDATE...Clear skies dominate the region again tonight with a high
pressure ridge firmly anchored over the West Coast. Some minor
cooling below 700mb today cost our afternoon highs a few degrees
from their record or near record levels on Friday, but still topped
out 10-12 degrees above seasonal average.

Similar conditions in store for Sunday with generally light winds
and mild temps. The current forecast is in good shape with no update
planned this evening.

-Outler-

&&

.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Monday.

Expect pleasant, comfortable weather through Monday with well
above normal temperatures continuing. Light winds will continue
across the area through Monday morning before a strong storm
system drops out of the Gulf of Alaska and approaches our area.
This will result in an increase in southwest winds across parts of
our area Monday afternoon.

.LONG TERM...Tuesday through Saturday.

The aforementioned storm system is forecast to drop in over our
area on Tuesday with an associated potent cold front passing
through the area. Both pre-frontal and post frontal winds are
expected to be strong enough that it will likely require wind
hazard headlines to be issued for Tuesday. Widespread advisory
level winds are possible with some potential for more localized
warning level winds Tuesday into Tuesday night. Clouds are
forecast to increase from north to south on Tuesday with mainly
light shower activity developing across parts of the area,
especially along the cold front. Currently, the areas with the
best chance for precipitation looks like Lincoln County and
northern Mohave County but we could also see a couple of inches of
snow in the Spring Mountains. Expect Tuesday to be 10-15 degrees
cooler which will bring us more in-line with seasonal normals.

The system is forecast to be east of the area by Wednesday
afternoon with lighter winds forecast as the gradient relaxes.
Models bring a minor reinforcing shortwave out of Canada that
passes through our eastern areas late in the day on Wednesday.
This could enhance the northerly winds along the Colorado River
Valley on Thursday. High pressure is forecast off the west coast
late in the week, keeping the pattern favorable for upstream
systems to bring unsettled weather into the Desert Southwest.

&&

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...Quiet weather will continue through
Monday. Winds will begin to turn more southerly and increase Monday
night. The strongest winds are expected Tuesday, with southwest
winds gusting 30 to 35 knots before shifting to northwest with gusts
of 20 to 30 knots behind a cold front Tuesday afternoon. There will
also be a slight chance of lower ceilings and a light shower Tuesday
as the front passes.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...Northerly winds gusting 20 to 30 knots in the Colorado
River Valley will subside this evening, with lighter winds expected
Sunday. Elsewhere, quiet weather will continue through Sunday night.
Southwest winds will begin to increase Monday, and a cold front will
pass through the region from north to south Tuesday and Tuesday
night. Southwest winds gusting 30 to 40 knots can be expected over
much of the Mojave Desert before shifting to northwest behind the
front. The strongest northwest winds could gust as high as 50 to 60
knots along the CA/NV border east of the White Mountains. There will
also be a risk of lower ceilings and light showers with terrain
obscuration as the front passes.

&&

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report
any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating
procedures.
