What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this wind advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

Area forecast discussion, Apr 19, 8:35 PM PDT, 7 hours 1 minute before
Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
835 PM PDT Tue Apr 19 2022

.SYNOPSIS...An active synoptic pattern this week will lead to
windy conditions for much of the week heading into the weekend.
Temperatures will cool off significantly in response to a deeper
storm Thursday and Friday and gradually warm up heading into early
next week. This late week system could also bring late season, high
elevation snowfall but accumulations should be very minor.
&&

.UPDATE...Wind gusts decreased about 10-15 mph at many sites
around southern Nevada between 7 PM and 8 PM and speeds will
gradually diminish late this evening through the overnight hours.
The wind advisories will be allowed to expire on schedule at 9 pm
PDT/MST this evening. Winds will be fairly light Wednesday over most
of the region except the western Mojave Desert of San Bernardino
County including Barstow-Daggett where gusts around 35 mph will
persist Wednesday. Thursday will bring another widespread windy day
ahead of a deeper and cooler trough which swings across our region
Thursday night and Friday. -Adair
&&

.PREV DISCUSSION...
1250 PM PDT Tue Apr 19 2022

.SHORT TERM...Through Wednesday night.

Windy into this evening as mid-level trough progresses east through
the Intermountain West. Most prominent plume on the dust RGB being
detected in the Searles Valley in far northwest San Bernardino
County. High wind potential for the southern Sierra should subside
a bit early as trough axis progged to clear western Inyo County
between 21Z and 00Z this afternoon. Otherwise, products set to
expire at 9 pm this evening. Area progged to lie between systems
Wednesday as deeper trough crosses the northeast Pacific. Winds will
remain elevated tonight into Wednesday, especially across the
western Mojave Desert. However, looks like a winds will remain below
advisory thresholds.

.LONG TERM...Thursday through Tuesday.

The ensembles are in decent agreement with the upper low with some
differences in timing and strength. This system will be wetter and
colder than the past few systems with snow levels falling to around
5000 feet in the eastern Sierra and Owens Valley and to 5500 to 6000
feet in southern Nevada and northwest Arizona. Precipitation will
move into the eastern Sierra during the day on Thursday and then
spread into much of the rest of the forecast area Thursday evening
and overnight into Friday morning. Overall precipitation totals
aren't expected to be too high but the values have trended slightly
higher with recent models runs. Many valley locations will be lucky
to get any measurable rainfall as moisture will encounter the Sierra
range, but higher locations in Lincoln County and the Sierra may see
a up to 0.25 inches of liquid equivalent and some measurable
snowfall. Any early season outdoor enthusiast needs to be prepared
for very chilly conditions Thursday night with potential for
accumulating snows in the higher terrain.

The latest cluster analysis indicates the main upper low should be
well to the east of the area by Saturday afternoon but with some
indications of some leftover troughiness and northwest flow even
into Sunday. Overall the trend will be for some increasing
temperatures over the weekend, reaching near the seasonal normals
by Sunday in many locations. There are some differences with the
amount of ridging that develops at the start of next week, but
there is good agreement with higher heights and a warming trend.
&&

.FIRE WEATHER...Red Flag Warnings remain in effect until until 9
pm this evening. Another windy period is expected Thursday and
Friday for the region. More uncertainty regarding minimum humidities
Thursday so far now have held off on a watch. On Friday, humidity
values rise above 15% so don't expect a watch will be needed.
&&

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...Gusty south to southwest winds will
remain through the early evening (03-04Z) with gusts to 35 knots
possible. Winds will decrease this evening around 03-04Z with gusts
to around 20-25 knots possible through at least 05-06Z, before gusts
become more occasional and should drop off by 07-08Z overnight
tonight. Thereafter, winds should remain below 10 knots through
Wednesday morning. Breezy south to southwesterly winds develop late
afternoon Wednesday (between 21-22Z) with gusts to 20-25 knots
possible through early evening Wednesday. Some SCT-BKN aoa 15 Kft
today should gradually clear tonight with some FEW-SCT high clouds
tomorrow.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...Gusty west to southwest winds will continue through the
afternoon and early evening across the region with gusts 25-35
knots. Strongest winds are expected at KDAG, with gusts around 38
knots. Winds will remain elevated through the evening before
decreasing overnight, expect at KDAG where gusty west winds will
remain through Wednesday. Elsewhere, expect southwesterly breezes to
develop late afternoon Wednesday with gusts around 20-25 knots. Some
SCT-BKN aoa 15 Kft today should gradually clear tonight with some
