fog in the western valleys. Visibilities are lowest and cloud
cover is greatest in southern San Diego county. Brown Field was
reporting visibility of a quarter mile, with San Diego
International Airport down to 3 miles just after 9 AM. Low clouds
and fog should clear later this morning, with mostly clear skies
for the rest of the day. Patchy low clouds and fog are possible
along the coast tonight into Wednesday, with best chance in San
Diego County.
High temperatures today are forecast to be 5 to 10 degrees warmer
than yesterday as a ridge of high pressure sets up over the US West
Coast. The greatest warming today will be in the inland valleys. On
Wednesday the warming will continue west of the mountains but
advection of cooler air at lower levels may bring slight cooling to
the mountains and deserts. Warming aloft and mixing from gusty Santa
Ana winds will keep overnight temperatures warm for some coastal and
foothill locations Wednesday and Thursday nights. Hottest days west

coastal eddy on Friday might cool coastal locations a few degrees,
but inland areas will remain quite hot. Deserts will remain hot
through Saturday.
Gusty northeast winds are expected Wednesday and Thursday. Strongest
winds are expected on Thursday, with peak gusts 40 to 45 mph,
locally up to 50 mph through the passes. ECMWF shift of tails and
extreme forecast index are highlighting wind speeds west of the
mountains in the 60th and 70th percentiles and a shift of tails
of 1 on Thursday.
An incoming trough of low pressure will increase onshore flow on
Saturday, cooling locations west of the mountains. Cooling will make
it to the deserts by Sunday. Gusty west winds expected in the
mountains and deserts Sunday through Tuesday. Cluster analysis
continues to show differences in placement and timing of the
incoming trough. Clusters with higher percentages of GFS and
Canadian ensemble members keep the trough further west. Clusters
with more ECMWF ensemble members place the trough further east.
Current precipitation forecast is in line with the NBM with a slight
chance of mostly light showers sometime late Monday into Tuesday.

051600Z...Low clouds with bases 500-800 feet MSL continue along the
coast this morning, mainly in southern San Diego County. Vis
reductions of 2-6SM expected, with locally lower vis under 1SM on
higher coastal terrain, including KSDM. Low clouds and fog should
clear terminals 17-18Z, though some patchy low clouds could stick
around the immediate coast into the afternoon.
Low clouds could return to the coast between 06-12Z Wednesday,
though confidence is low in impacts to coastal terminals.
Elsewhere, mostly clear skies with unrestricted vis will prevail
through tonight.

No hazardous marine weather is expected through Saturday.

.BEACHES...
An increased west swell from 280 degrees will bring elevated surf
and a high rip current risk to the beaches through Thursday. Surf
will be highest on Wednesday, with sets to 6 feet expected in San
Diego County and sets to 5 feet expected in Orange County.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Hot and dry conditions expected through Friday. Lowest humidity for
inland areas on Wednesday will fall to 10 to 15 percent with lowest
daytime humidity inland from the coast on Thursday and Friday 5 to
10 percent. Gusty Santa Ana winds from the northeast expected
Wednesday and Thursday, with stronger gusts expected Thursday
morning around 50 mph. Overnight humidity recovery will be poor
Wednesday and Thursday night. Friday, daytime humidity will still be
5 to 10 percent, but humidity will begin to recover Friday night
into Saturday. The combination of low humidity, strong gusty winds,
and hot conditions will bring elevated fire weather conditions on
Thursday for the inland valleys onto the coastal mountain slopes.
Saturday into early next week, onshore flow will strengthen
spreading higher coastal humidity and cooling inland. Gusty west
winds expected in the mountains and deserts Sunday night and Monday.
There is a slight chance of precipitation Monday night into Tuesday.
