.SYNOPSIS...
Hot weather will continue through the weekend with periods of Santa
Ana winds. A pattern change next week will bring colder weather
Tuesday along with gusty westerly winds and a chance of
precipitation.

.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

At 9 AM, skies were clear across SoCal. Surface pressure gradients
have decreased from 24 hours ago, but still remain moderately
offshore around -8 mb. Northeast winds this morning remain
strongest through and below the passes, though gusts generally
remain below 30 mph. It will be another very warm day for the
coast and valleys, with widespread 80s to low 90s expected. A few
daily high temperature records will likely be broken today.

The strong ridge of high pressure over much of the West Coast will
continue to stick around through the weekend. The weather pattern
will essentially remain unchanged through Sunday, with Santa Ana
winds at times and very warm days. The strongest Santa Ana winds
are expected Saturday morning, with gusts near 50 mph possible
below the passes and on the coastal foothills. A Wind Advisory
will be considered for those areas with the afternoon forecast
package update. Elsewhere, winds will be lighter but still
predominantly offshore.

Monday will be a transition day, with warm temperatures
continuing, but not as warm as the weekend. A deep trough of low
pressure will begin diving down the West Coast late Monday,
reaching SoCal on Tuesday. This will bring much cooler
temperatures, increased onshore flow, and a chance for rain. High
temperatures on Tuesday will drop about 20 degrees from Monday,
with highs mostly in the low 60s.

Increased west winds are expected in the mountains and desert
slopes. Currently, gusts are forecast to peak around 40 to 50 mph
on Tuesday in those areas.

While we can bet on cooler temperatures and increased onshore flow with
this system, the chances for rain and mountain snow are
uncertain. Overall, if we do get precipitation, amounts are
looking to be light. Ensemble members mostly show a trace to 0.20"
for the coast and valleys, with some members near 0.50".
Ensembles are a little more certain for measurable precipitation
in the mountains, with most ensembles showing 0.10 to 0.50" in the
San Bernardino mountains. Snow levels are looking to drop to

Areas of gusty northeast surface winds 15-25 knots with gusts 35
knots will occur mainly in foothills today and tonight. Pockets of

No hazardous marine conditions are expected through Monday. Westerly
winds will increase late Monday through Tuesday with gusts over 20
knots likely.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Very warm and very dry conditions will persist through the
weekend, with a Santa Ana pattern bringing periods of gusty
offshore winds through Sunday. Lowest humidity will be from 5 to
10 percent each day. The strongest Santa Ana winds are expected
Saturday morning, with gusts 40 to 50 mph expected through and
below the passes, and over the coastal foothills.

Onshore flow Monday will start to bring cooler weather and higher
humidity back to the area, but it will still be a warm day. A cold
low pressure system will bring much cooler weather Tuesday and
Wednesday with a substantial recovery in humidity. There will also
be a chance for light rain and high elevation mountain snow.
