.SYNOPSIS...
A complicated frontal system Wednesday into Friday with heavy
rain and a wintry mix. Moderating temperatures Wednesday will
tumble back below average by the end of the work week.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 110 AM Wednesday...
Southerly winds in advance of an approaching front will create
another mild day. Rain in advance of the front will start this
afternoon in the west and spread eastward during the afternoon
and evening hours. The front will slide eastward into southeast
Ohio this evening, slowly moving eastward into northeast
Kentucky and western West Virginia by late Wednesday night.
Temperatures will drop to around freezing in far northwestern Perry
County Ohio by Thursday morning, allowing for the rain to start
the transition to freezing rain.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 350 AM Wednesday...
Significant winter storm to affect the area in the short term
period. Frontal boundary will be near the Ohio River vicinity at
the start of the period, with low pressure moving northeast into
our region. May be a small lull in the precipitation in some
West Virginia and VA zones on Thursday due to downsloping
potential, but that will change as the low continues to move
northeast, and the frontal boundary sweeps east across the area.
Freezing rain should be taking hold across northern southeast
Ohio zones near the start of the period, with a slow
progression/transition eastward of mixed precipitation through
the afternoon and evening hours across remainder of SE Ohio and
NE KY. In fact, some areas in the watch may not transition
until Thursday evening. Elected to push back the start of the
watch by a few hours, but even with that, it's probably a bit
too early in some zones. But in order to have some sort of
consistency with neighbors, as well as to account for the
potential of any early start in precipitation, just pushed back
the watch by 3 hours each segment. Highest confidence areas for
ice amounts to reach over a quarter of an inch are Perry,
Morgan, Athens, Vinton counties...with still significant, but
overall lesser amounts in remaining watch counties due to not
as long of a duration as previously mentioned counties.
A wintry mix will gradually take hold east of the Ohio River
after 00Z Friday, and expect lesser amounts due to the more
progressive nature of the system at this point. Expecting an
advisory to be issued on future shifts for much if not all of
the area east of the Ohio River.
QPF and flooding still remain a concern, but after collaboration
with other offices, decision was left to have the day
shift evaluate the areas where one may be needed. Still
concerned areas in southeast Ohio and counties adjacent to Ohio
River will see some minor flooding, particularly on the typical
problem creeks/streams.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 1250 AM Wednesday...
Dry with high pressure over the weekend. A low pressure system
across the south may brush southern and eastern zones on Sunday,
but for the most part the area should remain dry. Another front
with light precipitation is possible early next week.
