Dry cold front crosses this evening . A low along the front
brings snow Thursday afternoon and night. High pressure takes
control Saturday. Upper level disturbance crosses Sunday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 1235 PM Wednesday...

Colder air will move into the region overnight behind a cold
front. An upper level trough will then allow a surface low to
develop along the front, tracking to our south. This will leave
the region in a band of snow starting Thursday afternoon. Still
some disagreement in the models on the exact timing of the snow
starting, but models are in good agreement with overall storm
total amounts. Planning on upgrading to Winter Storm Warnings
and Winter Weather Advisories in portions of the region with the
afternoon package.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 234 AM Wednesday...

A deepening upper level trough approaches from the west on
Thursday, with axis crossing east Thursday night, and exiting
Friday. Models show strong forcing with this feature capable to
produce significant snow accumulations areawide. Model soundings
show plenty of moisture within the dendrite growth zone. In
addition, models show H850 temperatures of minus 10C as the
precipitation arrives to the lowlands, suggesting the onset of
all snow Thursday evening. Expect SLR about 15:1. Models are is
agreement with a storm total accumulations from 2 to 4 inches
across the lowlands, ranging to 4 to 8 inches at higher
elevations. Confidence runs high in snowfall accumulations among
models. With these snow accumulations expected, a Winter Storm
Watch is required for Thursday night into Friday.

Winds will turn northwest, ideal for upslope snow showers across the
central and northeast mountains continuing into Friday. The
lowlands should remain mostly dry on Friday as drier air moves
in and high pressure build from the west.

With cold air in place, temperatures will struggle to reach the
mid 30s lowlands on Thursday. Lows Thursday night could drop
into the teens areawide, even into the single digits along the
highest elevations. It will be much colder on Friday with
temperatures struggling to warm up beyond the mid 20s across the
lowlands, and the highest elevations barely making it into the
double digits.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 234 AM Wednesday...

A brief high pressure takes control of the weather conditions Friday
night into Saturday allowing for dry weather and any lingering
upslope snow to finally taper off. A slight warming trend will take
place with temperatures warming up to slightly above seasonable by
Sunday.

Another upper trough will move southeast affecting our area Sunday
and Sunday night as the associated cold front crosses east.
Precipitation will starts as a wintry mix spreading from the
Middle Ohio Valley east into WV. Precipitation transitions to
mostly rain during the day on Sunday with perhaps a mix of
rain/snow at the higher elevations. A chance for snow will then
return on the back end of this system as the cold front crosses
through the area leaving much cooler temperatures in its wake.
Models show H850 temperatures dropping below minus 10C by Monday
morning with the ECMWF a little faster to bring this cold air
in.

As of 1230 PM Wednesday...

VFR conditions can be expected this afternoon. Some MVFR clouds
are possible in the mountains this evening. VFR conditions will
then prevail for later tonight and Thursday morning.

Restrictions in snow and ceilings can be expected to move in
Thursday afternoon.

West to southwest winds this afternoon and evening will be
rather gusty.
